The longer this goes on, the more likely the next update on Henry will be, the injury is not responding to rehab, an additional scan has revealed structural concerns….and he is out for season.
I know zero about his actual injury or medical prognosis, but the deliberately vague statements from the club definitely have that vibe about them.:(

GEELONG'S Sam Simpson remains sidelined indefinitely with concussion symptoms.

The 23-year-old midfielder has not played this year after being concussed in a training drill late in the Cats' pre-season. He had previously suffered concussions in the 2020 Grand Final against Richmond and 2021 qualifying final against Port Adelaide.

Geelong general manager football Simon Lloyd said the Cats' chief medical officer and multiple concussion specialists were working with Simpson.

Sam is involved with the football program, but not ready to play," Lloyd said. "He is making continual progress in his recovery, everything being done is all about a safe return."

Geez, I hope he can get back on the park but this is looking pretty serious. Wouldn't put a lot of faith into seeing him in the hoops any time soon - and maybe not again (which might be for the best for his long-term health).

It seemed to all start from that mother of all hits from Menegola in the 2020 GF, didn't it?

It will be surgery out of ‘an abundance of caution’ if that makes you feel any better.

It baffles me as to what tactical advantage the club believes it gains by being so vague and deceptive with injuries.

They have a cloak and dagger complex with this stuff.

There's another simple explanation: the injury isn't responding to treatment as hoped they have to try something different.

I can see Harry Taylor sitting up late at night, sipping aged French Cognac, and wordsmithing short, sharp but vague injury statements on Danger, Henry et al. His deep thinking is probably why he got the job;)

The problem with scans are that they aren't always clear or don't always show an issue early on with an injury

Look at Ratugolea last year - took a knock to the leg over the pre-season, was sent for scans, and initial scans showed no clear sign of injury, so you start treating the injury based on what you know. It wasn't responding as they had hoped, he was still having pain in the leg & was sent for further scans which showed a hairline fracture - that then changes the course of treatment

It may be a similar situation with Henry - he's had at least 2 sets of scans already and we know that because the club said nothing untoward showed after the first scan. It may be a case at the moment of treating the injury for what they currently know, but then having to change tack if that's not working

Clearly it's not that challenging, though.

It's just become two words...'reconditioning program'. Apparently works for all players and every circumstance.

Absolute genius.

I can confirm that this pretence of 'tact' from the GFC isn't working with at least some of the supporters here. Whereas changing tack could well be exactly what is required at this point.

There you go.

Why can't the club say it so plainly and easily?
Jack Henry remains a day-to-day prospect for the club's medical staff.

"Jack Henry continues to be evaluated day-by-day as the club monitors how his injured foot feels to determine his training loads," Taylor says.

"We are seeing general improvement in Jack’s function."

That's pretty plain!

Yes but in defence of the club that can happen

Tom Hickey has got a dodgy wonky knee - a couple of years back - when we played them at the SCG - during the week prior to the game - he was listed as 6-7 weeks with his knee issue - but played ( BOG ) and he said early in the week i thought i was absolutely no chance - but later in the week it felt structually sound so i played

What about the posters on this board - re their injury updates - yesterday Dangerfield has got a torn calf and is out for the season !!!!!

To be fair the "torn calf" was raised in an article in the HUN on Saturday.

That's the problem though. When the information coming out of the club is uncertain rumours will abound. The Club should have quashed the HUN article if it was untrue.

Holmes underwent ankle surgery on Monday after suffering a syndesmosis injury against Fremantle and will spend some time on the sidelines. Patrick Dangerfield is expected to return against Greater Western Sydney on Saturday after missing the past fortnight due to a corked calf. The Brownlow medallist trained on Monday and is on track to head north. Henry remains a day-to-day proposition after injuring his foot on Easter Monday. The young defender has found some improvement, but his return remains unclear at this stage. Menegola and Stanley will be tested later in the week. Stanley hurt his ankle late against the Dockers, while Menegola has been experiencing some knee soreness.

Lol I want 2... 🤪 ruck and a key defender

If we had two spots id do that too but we only have one unless we put someone like ceglar on the inactive list and rule him out for the year.

Lets hope not given our history with foot injuries.

Yeah it did and then he got another head knock in the prelim last year.

Agreed but why wouldnt we just say that rather than a vague statement.
