Ruck is close to the last position clubs fill.
I would go down the cheap path of a cheap development ruck at this stage and if it doesn't turn out trade a decent ruck in say 2024 and draft a decent talent then as well.

While ROB and Strachan are 1st choices I wouldn't be to fussed until all the other ducks are lined up

Yes it seems pretty logical but list management has been everything but.
Cheap as chips and if he doesn't develop enough go trade someone in and rinse and repeat
It's a pity Will had injury niggles pre-season and missed important game time in the early part of the season or I would be confident he would have played a big part in the SA U18's campaign at the Nationals instead of just playing the last Nationals game where he was SA's best ruck in his limited minutes on ball. Would really liked to have seen him matched up on Barnett at U18's level but unfortunately Barnett didn't play in the South vs West games where Verrall dominated their rucks. Be nice to have a ruck like Verrall or Barnett that can play like an extra midfielder when the ball hits the deck.

Especially having TT to chop out.
No lumbering dinosaurs

Brown - retired
Frampton - traded to pies
Sholl - trade?
McAsey - trade?
M Crouch - trade?
Rowe - trade/delist?

3rd round at best for any of the above trades even if we pay salary for Sholl, McAsey & Crouch. But it's more about the list spot than the draft pick.

Melbourne gave Dunstan a lifeline so still hopeful there's a club for Crouch, despite Reid's comments. What else can he say? Crouch is contracted after all.

A Vic club will take a punt on McAsey for a packet of chips surely. Sholl has enough family ties to get to Carlton or North or a club with a coach who values his outside game (Mitchell at the Hawks?).

We could also possibly delist/rookie McPherson. That would give us 3 or 4 spots even with Rankine coming in and upgrading Butts and Strachan.

It's gonna be tight but hopefully we'll have room for Rankine plus 2 trades and 2 draftees. If not, it's gonna be a bit underwhelming.

Well Harry is off the table, he just signed a seven year deal.
Maybe its me but I am still stunned clubs are giving out 7 year deals

And to players I dont rate as elite - and yes thats on my perception

But apparently thats the going rate these days - good luck to those who have watertight end of contract deals

I seem to remember the AFL after cutting down lists allowed clubs to go with an extra senior spot at the expense of a rookie spot or vice versa? And we went with an extra rookie spot? Is this true and if so can we delist Davis to open up a senior spot?

Seems to be a COLL and CARL trend ......doubt you'll see GEEL go down that path

44 players in total, Rookie and Main List .....Clubs can re-organise their lists to fit the total #

38 & 6 .....40 & 4 ...

We ended up going the other way in 2022 and are currently at the maximum senior players we're allowed to have.

And we’ve four Cat A rookies at the moment right? Butts, Strachan, Parnell, Davis with a requirement to upgrade Butts and Strachan as well as add Turner to the rookie list? Does AFL still allow the option to downgrade two seniors to rookies?

Correct on Rookie makeup ......AFL allowed players to be switched from the main list to the Rookie list, IIRC the last 2 years .....I'm not sure about this year ?

It was the case, you had to delist a main list player & then re-rookie

Cheers mate.

So if we can’t unload Crouch or McAsey (which is think is likely) the minimum outs we have to make are:

Frampton (delisted/traded)
Rowe (delisted)
Brown (retired)
Davis (delisted, his rookie spot turned into a senior spot)

To make space on the seniors for:

Rankine
Butts
Strachan
The one other national draft pick we’re required to make whoever that is

And leave us with two vacancies on the rookie list, one of which will be taken by Turner.

Do we want him? He was looking good last year, but seems to have fallen off a cliff this year. Anyone know why??

Probably something to do with North being an utter shitshow.

Was he dealing with a death in the family?

That was decently late in the season (v Us in round 15) and Thomas was all over the shop beforehand.
