Hang onto this for post-season. There’s normally a prize for most convoluted trade.

I’ll be mad as hell if we give up two first rounders and Lobb for Jackson. On the other hand, if that offer went to the doggies for Naughton... we need a proven goal kicker, not a bloke that nobody can decide where he best slots into our side. No disrespect to Jackson of course

"I'm not going to read the 129 previous pages, but I assume that somewhere in there it's been noted that Jackson's skillset is a better fit for West Coast than Fremantle.

The Dockers have Darcy, who is a very good ruckman, and will remain so for many years; he would best be complemented by a key forward who could take minutes in the ruck. The 2022 version of Rory Lobb is doing a pretty decent job of that. Obviously if Lobb goes there's room for Jackson, and Jackson is an outstanding player, but I see him as a ruckman who operates as an extra midfielder, and less as a key forward.

West Coast, on the other hand, need to replace an ageing Naitanui, and Jackson is as close to a like-for-like replacement as you could hope for. He'd be effective in the ruck and useful when the ball is in dispute, like Naitanui; and also good on the spread. He's more mobile than Naitanui but at this stage he can't quite replicate the freakish ruck work. If Jackson sees his future as a number 1 ruck, he'll be that for 10 years at West Coast.

However: maybe the Eagles just can't afford him, in picks or dollars; or maybe he doesn't want to come to a club at the wrong end of the ladder. In that case, why wouldn't he just stay at Melbourne and take over from Gawn in time? Gawn is 7 years older than Darcy, so Jackson's time would arrive sooner at Melbourne than Fremantle."

Geez, what a slacker! Kids these days don't know the meaning of hard work!

Franklin should go to St Kilda - That way that club can finally claim they got their " Big Fish"

Could we actually afford Buddy in the cap? People before were saying if we recruit Jackson that we would be struggling capwise
Can Freo find $700-$800,000 a year to get buddy Franklin as a free agent for 1 or 2 seasons? Absolutely.

Even with Rory Lobbs $700,000 a year contract still on freos books.

Anyone think it's a bad idea getting Franklin on as a free agent needs to take this into consideration.

Remember the Jesse Hogan trade back In 2018? That cost us picks 6 and 23 didn't it? Or the Lachie Neale compo picks. Didn't prevent Freo in having a good season in 2022 didn't it?

Also back at the end of 2011, Freo nearly got Mitch Clark and were we're gonna pay him $700,000 a year and trade picks 16 and 20 to get him.

Nah, strong pass from me. Have faith in the champs we got to win the Holy Grail. Not a fan of this messianic fantasy
No one is claiming he’s the messiah anymore, just would be perfect to fill a Lobb sized hole in our forward line. Cost the same money and zero draft picks, why wouldn’t you try to get him for two years? Gives Amiss and Treacy two years to develop and we strengthen our draft hand with whatever picks we get for Lobb. The only downside I can see is we can’t make a play for Gus Brayshaw as well as that would break the bank. As many have already alluded to, our midfield is stacked and we can’t find room for Raz and Johnson as it is.

Buddy would be great but as others have said I can't see his Mrs being too keen to move to WA.

Obviously you have to fit everyone inside the cap but from a financial perspective $750,000 to Buddy is a great investment. Ticket sales and merchandise would spike and we'd get more Friday night games.

Does anyone have the Luke Jackson article written by Paul Hasleby? 🤗

Actual proper list management and curation to meet a strategy versus a shopaholic bipolar "oh look some old superstar that is available but totally superfluous or even counter to the plan - but we should BUY it!" / "Oh no! we don't have enough money to keep young players! SELL the farm!"....

The conspiracy theorist in me posits that clubs do this (ie. "lowball", let speculation go around some players etc.) just to try and throw other list managers of their game just in the hope that this happens and people screw their overall plans up.

That's not our problem is it. JLo has said that he's told Lobb he's a required player but it looks like Lobb wants out.

Lobb is a fool then. Life for him post AFl career could be much easier as a Premiership player than not, assuming we’re more likely to get one with him in the side than if he goes to the dogs. Sure, there’s no guarantee of that or of the dogs not getting one with him in their side but the odds are more favourable if he sticks fat with Freo.
