That is the first time I have heard of that. I wonder what the reasoning is to remove the minimum spend.

I suspect it may be to include free memberships which clubs sometimes have as part of a promotion.
Really makes comparisons pointless when you see deals like the Saints having a deal where their home pass is being upgraded to a 3 game pass, or Carltons buy 1 get 1 free memberships.

St Kilda was 42,400 about a week ago.

Just had our membership day yesterday no update yet but hopefully closing in on 45k

The club is aiming for 60k.
What's the source of the 42,400 figure?

Happy to update it, but I checked the Saints BigFooty board and could only see 40,400 and the official club website still says 39,096.

I heard 63,000 from Xavier Campbell, but was hesitant to update it.

I remember Mark Korda, Collingwood's president at the time saying we had over 80,000 at a particular point last year but we were still hovering around 75,000 members at the time.

Richmond hired a Collingwood supporter to be the face of their membership ad

Long held envy I guess. Within 3-4 years the Pies will probably surpass the Tigers membership and reclaim its once converted mantle as the biggest member club in Victoria. Maybe the Tigers tried to steal one first!

Even more ridiculous is that clubs have done deals with junior leagues. E.g. All EFNL juniors get a Hawthorn membership. All YJFL players a Pes one. What is the point? What a waste to give kids who barrack for other clubs a Hawks/Pies membership. They are not going to change clubs if they are already footyheads. YJFL is the biggest junior league with has 11,000 players.

Have you got evidence that 0, 1 and 3 game attendance and pet memberships don't count on the tally? I'm under the impression that a lot of these do but am happy to be corrected.
Oh, well if you're under the impression, then that pretty much settles the argument Tom Browne.

:D Every man has his price PM

I expect Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon's memberships to spike somewhere near 100k if they can get anything resembling success in the next few years. Sleeping giants, the lot of them.

these are just the add on membership packages alone. Add On

Lmao add ons not over 50 bucks dont get added on to the official tally. The fact that you have mentioned pet memberships in a previous post makes any post of yours to be taken with a grain of salt. For the umpteenth time, pet memberships aren't included for ANY club.

It may be true wookie but we are talking about the Adelaide Advertiser here :D need to see something official from the AFL

Well Michelangelo Rucci (advertiser sports editor) did confirm it in my twitter DMs so.... and there was almost no change from club promo numbers to afl audit soooo

Well nonetheless, that is quite ridiculous. There should be a min spend, this can be easily manipulated to inflate numbers.
Not sure if anyone has taken this up with the AFL but I surely will.

The AFL is not going to change it they love the inflated figures.
It helps with their chest puffing and marketing.
On ABC the other day they mentioned AFL total membership and
extrapolated that 1 in 20 odd Australians are AFL member.
(No need to mention some were pets born in Australia) Garry from central qld hears this and thinks I’m bloody Aussie maybe I should be a member too.
It’s like the people they use to advertise gym powders are truthful when they say they use the powder and their ripped but fail to disclose that they also use steroids.
Half truths are as common as waking up in the morning in todays society unfortunately.
Majority of people lap it up.
The power of exposure to information right or wrong is mighty!

I thought Melbourne MCC members were counted towards their membership tally.

Melbourne is the footballing division of the MCC after all.
We are included at Richmond. It's about $100 extra but that gets us into our home game at Marvel too.

All 10 Victorian clubs have the same capacity to join their own club as part of their MCC package - like any membership, it's a personal financial decision
