Sticker arrived yesterday arvo.....it is huge and will definately need trimming on the sides.

Covid ruined our xmas today. In-laws about to leave home to come to our place for lunch when S-I-L got a txt saying she was a close contact (at an eye specialist) and needs to get tested and isolate for 14 days. Went to a site and waited nearly 4hrs to get the test.

An hour before that happened, had an email from mums Aged Care home to say they have a covid case....thank god I picked mum up last tuesday. will be keeping her here with me until I consider it safe for her to go back..

What a day.....lots of food though.

Sticker trimmed and on car....still big but no doubt as to who I barrack for.

Trimmed it on both sides back to the edge of the "2" looked so much better. Looked ridiculous the size it was, would need a truck for it to look in proportion.

Should've put it between two sticks and then held it up for the team to run through!

Finally a gold member - feels weird not having a gold lanyard after many years looking forward to getting one. Covid era membership packs are nowhere near as good. Alas - glad to finally hit gold membership - particularly after sitting through so many s**t seasons!

Left mine full size. The bigger the better!

Unsure if I'm signing back up. Don't have much faith of an uninterrupted season.

Nah, I can't see that happening by March. Perhaps my optimism will fail me as it did in early 2020, but I think we'll be okay. Even the change to guidelines of close contacts this week is proof of how quickly they're adapting. By March, I think you'll only sit a game out if you've actually tested positive. Contacts at the club will be fine to play if they test negative before the game I imagine.

One of the issues with the new close contact definition will be the number of our players, younger ones in particular, who share houses - they will get caught up as "close contacts".

I escaped being a close contact by only a few hours last night. Got the all clear to take mum home to her Aged Care tuesday, took her home wednesday stayed overnight in motel and was visiting back and forth in that time. Got home yesterday arvo, mum rang teatime to say they are in strict lockdown as they have 4 cases of Covid, 1 death.

Luckily she is in an individual house of 8 residents each house within the building (easy to isolate) so can still wonder around like in a normal house and they have given her permission to smoke in the little courtyard off the kitchen of the house, so she's happy (normally can't, has to go outside to designated area).....got official email giving details etc....all residents have been tested and will be again etc.

I phoned and they told me I only need to be tested if I get symptoms now......relieved as didn't fancy sitting in the car for up to 4hrs waiting for a test in 37 degree heat.

Can only see numbers absolutely skyrocketing now with these new rules, so up to us to look after ourselves extra carefully if we want to avoid anymore lockdowns. Can also see it playing havoc with teams in the coming season. Will still be a bumpy ride in 2022 I think.

God only knows when it will all end.

I am also in the optimism category for the winter codes this year
My perception (could be wrong) is the summer sports have had a better run of things in the previous 2 years
Brad Scott the new AFL General Manager Of Football mentioned a few months ago that he would like to treat AFL covid cases as sick days.
You come back after a negative test. No other players affected
Just need the States to agree along those lines regarding travel
By February 2022 most children ages 5-12 will be double vaccinated so that should change things considerably

Maybe the Lions will get a surge in membership around this time

I’m not so sure about that. In the discussions I’ve had with other parents, there’s still a lot of hesitancy about getting younger kids vaxed. Even when you bring up that almost every kid has had a dozen vaccines and boosters by the age of two and a half.

That is my experience too, + the chances of a young healthy child between 5 and 11 years of age having a significantly bad outcome from a Covid infection is almost zero.

Granddaughter and her husband are fully vaxxed but are also very hesitant to get their 12 and 8yr olds done.
Yep, the only family member or close friend who is currently not vaccinated is my 11 year old granddaughter, I do not want her vaccinated if the reason is to protect my 62 year old body, my 82 year old mum says the same thing. We can take precautions if we are worried... which I am most certainly not.

This Omricon is mild, asymptomatic but highly contagious. Multiple players from teams will have it without even knowing. If they do high volume of tests they will find a lot with it. Unsure on how long it takes to clear the human body but wouldn't think it would be a week. If a cluster test positive a day out like the cricket today games don't happen.

Stop testing asymptomatic people thus throwing the emphasis off "cases" and onto ICU admissions and deaths, Omicron looks like not as much of a beast as the experts and MSM thought it would be.

I have no doubt the season will happen. It will be a mess and trying to attend will be hard if fixtures change late. I don't want to sink any more money in until there is certainty around it. Maybe a late 3 game pass if the season has some consistency later on.

That could very well be the case but i am still optimistic about a AFL season with little disruption
However i think even if 50% of that age group go ahead it will still contribute to slow down the actual spread
Could be as low as 33% or as high as 80%. Won't know till sometime late in January

We will need lots of things to fall in place if we want to reach 40/50K membership

I have little faith in the vaccine slowing the spread of omicron. Most vaccinated people will likely have mild symptoms, but I won’t be surprised if we head towards a hundred thousand cases a day, as a nation.

You could be correct about the spread not actually slowing down. Time will tell

A few reasons why i think we won't get to 100k cases a day not to mention the 200k reported recently
It would take a hell of a lot of daily tests to end up with 100k positive cases a day
Doubt we have the ground troops to process that many daily, as well as the labs being able to process that sort of number
Yesterday Italy recorded 126K new cases but they have a population of 60 Million.
Italy sat at number 5 in world rank for new cases. Australia was high at number 12

Also i think you will find testing numbers will fall dramatically with the new testing rules. Find out within a week i suppose
Reduced testing numbers will result in reduced recorded positive covid numbers

I guess from now on Australia will not have an accurate number of positive cases
