Jack Steele, never had him and he still hasn't got any support.
Do St Kilda have a single other player to take points off him?

Damn. There are an annoying number of good high priced mid options. Hard to pick between. Steele, Macrae, Clarry, Walsh.

So, who is your first primo midfielder picked?

Am I crazy to double down on Sam Walsh? One of my first picked last year and served me well. Bit more competition for points at Carlton this year I guess . . .
Anyone not starting Jackson Macrae isn't serious. Will be top 5 mid again.

Lachie Neale a premium midfielder for $540k what’s not to love

A lot of love for Laird but any love for Mills? JPK basically done, Parker older, a lot of young pups surrounding him but it’s basically his midfield now. Wont play back, Horse knows what he has now.

112 average, 7 > 120 with a ceiling and only 4 scores under 100 - 83, 84, 87, 93
12 weeks in a row > 100 and finished the year with a 5rd average of 115 even with that sore Achilles.

Any love or only me? Would love to see what another PS could do for Mills, like Laird did after playing midfield to end the season in 2020.

Not starting Mills or Laird as mid only players. Call it irrational bias against starting player that lose DPP but I’ve hardly ever gone against it. And I don’t think I’ve ever regretted it.

I think Dangerfield might be the only player I’ve started who lost DPP that year.

The centre bounce rotations at the Bulldogs were heavily concentrated into a small group of players in 2021, despite the Grand Final loss to Melbourne the Bulldogs were extremely successful through the middle of the ground.

Jack Macrae was the No.1 ranked player at the Bulldogs in 2021, he was used at 77.5% of team centre bounces across the season.

Marcus Bontempelli was also used quite heavily at centre bounces, he had a usage rate of 73.3% across the season.

Bontempelli was used at 83.3% during the finals.

Tom Liberatore was another that was heavily used through the middle of the ground, he had a usage rate of 65.8% across the season & 68.5% from the 25 games he played in

An injury to Josh Dunkley early in the year resulted in Bailey Smith being moved to play more of an inside midfield role, Smith was used at 29.3% across the season.

Dunkley was used at 46.3% of team centre bounces between Rounds 1-6, he had a usage rate of just 8.8% in the Grand Final.

Adam Treloar also had an injury interrupted 2021 season, he was used at 22.7% across the season & 34.1% in games he played in (17).

Treloar was used at 50.0% in the Grand Final.

It was a transition year for the Saints at centre bounces in 2021, injuries did impact their rotations while there was a mix of new midfielders to enter the middle of the ground.

Jack Steele was the No.1 ranked player at St Kilda centre bounces in 2021, he was used at a high rate of 83.2%.

Seb Ross did see a decline at St Kilda centre bounces in 2021, he has a usage rate of 28.3% across the season.

Jack Bytel was used at 26.0% of centre bounces across the season, that did increase to 44.6% in the 13 games he played in.

He was used at 85.2% in the final game of the 2021 H&A season & could be set to see an increase in 2022.

Dunkley was used at 46.3% of team centre bounces between Rounds 1-6, he had a usage rate of just 8.8% in the Grand Final.

Dunks dropping 130s with less than 50% CBAs is absurd.

I stopped measuring CBA's 2/3rds the way thru the season .....I couldn't draw any correlation between CBA's and scoring

The only thing it is good for is jumping on those midpricer / breakout players.
Someone like a Tarryn Thomas started getting CBAs mid year, and it saw his scoring rise sharply.
Good SC scorers are going to score well, wherever they are on the ground.

Good point .....moreso reflecting a role change to more midfield time

The Bulldogs are interesting .....who will get more midfield time, Dunkley or Treloar ?? ......ATS (Andrew Birch ;) ) I'm punting on Treloar, given the increased demands for speed in midfields

Libba is the spanner in the works, they moved him about after he got tagged, but he's wasted forward.

Bont and Macrae are their main guys, then who knows. I am leaning toward Dunkley, he has the scoring history to be worth the injury risk, IF he's playing mainly midfield. ATS. Hopefully after a full preseason he's back in there.

The Bulldogs midfield is a little one paced so Treloar would address that. We also got mauled a few times last year on the defensive side at centre bounces. Dunkley would seem the obvious candidate to help address that.

At Dunkley's price he doesn't even have to play 100% midfield. As long as he's greater than 50% he'll go 105+

This is where the eyetest comes in. I play SC more than I watch footy, so I miss the nuances behind the raw statistics (IE: A player like Dunkley might start Half Forward but rush into the midfield after the first stoppage).

Neale: A Man on a Mission
But early signs are showing that the best of Lachie Neale may still be coming.

Returning a week earlier than required and rivalling the likes of Harry Sharp and Hugh McCluggage in running drills, Neale appears to have added another layer to his already impressive arsenal.

Speaking on his 2021 season, the 28-year-old said it was a challenging start.

“Probably coming off last pre-season, I wasn’t able to train at all before a week or two out from our trial game against Gold Coast,” Neale said.

Neale had his hands full in the off-season, balancing Dad life after the arrival of his daughter, Piper Rose Neale

“I just want to have a solid off-season
“I wanted to get my body right, my mind right and be ready to go for day one.”

“I wanted to come in the best shape possible. I’ve shed a couple of kilos and feel like I’m moving really well.”
