and how desperate Sydney is in getting any events to the city, especially with the new stadiumJesus....if there's no Sydney team then it's going to be a disaster. Probably shows how desperate they are for money.

I don't think it works for the AFL for instance.

This is just the NSW government trying to justify spending $800 million dollars on a new stadium that is no bigger than the one they pulled down!

It clearly is different. The AFL Grand Final is always played at a full house, regardless of the teams involved. The sentiment is no different to the AFL.
locking in Sydney as the host city for the next three men’s and women’s grand finals
You are quibbling. The AFL deal was a sell out of the national comp paid for by the Victorian taxpayer to benefit the Melbourne Cricket club membership. It clearly is different. The AFL Grand Final is always played at a full house, regardless of the teams involved.
And here's another difference:
Is there a small difference between an Adelaide vs Brisbane A-League grand final in Sydney and an Adelaide vs Brisbane AFL grand final in Melbourne, or a big difference? You are quibbling.

There has been no tradition of this is the A-league. The league is 16 years old with no historical biases on venues.
This decision was poor.

Poor for exactly the same reason.
Will not last ......no, but you keep flogging that dead horse for the next 40 years or so if you like.
GWS the template ?Well that augers well for Sydney AFL3.
No big bounce for the A League post the Socceroos WC involvement! An average of under 6000.

FYI, Socceroos top second week of summer, while the 2022 FIFA World Cup take key demos
'The 2022 FIFA World Cup match between England and France aired to a metro audience of 401,000 views on Sunday, while also winning all three key advertising demos.
The football match beat Seven’s Cricket: Second Test – Australia vs West Indies game, which brought in a metro audience of 371,000 views.'
'In the latest Daily Consolidated Total TV Report for 4 December, Sunday’s 2022 FIFA World Cup game between Argentina vs Australia was the #1 program nationally across linear, with 1.679 million viewers, including 415,000 on BVOD and an uplift of 33%. This was also the program with the biggest uplift for the week.'
The was no GF as such in 1897 and the deciding week three matches were not played at the MCG in fact the first GF ever played at the MCG was in 1902 and during WW2 4 GFs were not played at the G 3 were at Princes Park and one at the Junction Oval. The AFL membership benefits just as much.
But more at least they can point to its consistent use - aside from Wars and Pandemics (and 1 year in 1991 during Southern Stand construction), they've pretty much played all the grand finals there since 1897.

Yeah we will all be roooned! The sleeping giant has awakened. AFL, NRL and Cricket should shut up shop.

It's obviously going to be predominantly FTA no matter what.![]()
Ten owner Paramount in box seat to secure deal for cricket rights
With final bids due on Thursday afternoon, US film studio giant Paramount is leading the race for cricket rights with its offer significantly ahead of Seven and Foxtel.www.watoday.com.au
I can't see this ending well for cricket unless there is a huge FTA component. If paramount gets a lot of it then cricket is going to lose. The sport (including BBL) doesn't have the fan loyalty of the AFL and NRL and I don't think many will move across to a streaming platform to watch it.
