I don't think it works for the AFL for instance.

It doesn't - horses for courses, but Ireland is different and that's why I suggested it.
It's a more honest system (for them).
The big teams play the big teams, the little teams play the little teams and middling or extraordinary teams have a chance to move up.
I'd fancy that media worth would increase with the removal of a lot of one-sided games.

This is just the NSW government trying to justify spending $800 million dollars on a new stadium that is no bigger than the one they pulled down!

This is like trading in your serviceable car for the new version of the same car with no great benefit.

The sentiment is no different to the AFL.
It clearly is different. The AFL Grand Final is always played at a full house, regardless of the teams involved.

And here's another difference:
locking in Sydney as the host city for the next three men’s and women’s grand finals

You are quibbling. The AFL deal was a sell out of the national comp paid for by the Victorian taxpayer to benefit the Melbourne Cricket club membership.

Is there a small difference between an Adelaide vs Brisbane A-League grand final in Sydney and an Adelaide vs Brisbane AFL grand final in Melbourne, or a big difference?

Those who are able to go to GF after GF in Melbourne retain that right to the exclusion of club members.

The AFL membership benefits just as much.

But more at least they can point to its consistent use - aside from Wars and Pandemics (and 1 year in 1991 during Southern Stand construction), they've pretty much played all the grand finals there since 1897.

The sleeping giant has awakened. AFL, NRL and Cricket should shut up shop.

The was no GF as such in 1897 and the deciding week three matches were not played at the MCG in fact the first GF ever played at the MCG was in 1902 and during WW2 4 GFs were not played at the G 3 were at Princes Park and one at the Junction Oval.
1897 last week of the finals.
Saturday, 4 September
Essendon 1.8 (14)
def.Melbourne 0.8 (8)Lake Oval (crowd: 3,800)
Saturday, 4 September
Geelong 8.4 (52)
def.Collingwood 6.12 (48)EMCG (crowd: 3,000)
Essendon won the premiership for finishing on top of the round-robin finals ladder, no Grand Final was required.

I can't see this ending well for cricket unless there is a huge FTA component. If paramount gets a lot of it then cricket is going to lose. The sport (including BBL) doesn't have the fan loyalty of the AFL and NRL and I don't think many will move across to a streaming platform to watch it.

It's obviously going to be predominantly FTA no matter what.
