WACA capacity being 5k max atm, with half the ground closed off to the public while construction takes place, is far from ideal. So why is being played at Perth Stadium - unfinancial and embarassing. Ideal for the WACA.

Any stats for the A league or the Socceroos considering they are supposedly the biggest sport in the country?
As usual the soccer urgers getting all excited by the WC which will do NOTHING to improve the A League which has to be said once Lowy pulled his money out has been on a downhill slide ever since!A-league and socceroos stuff is at keepup.com.au
it wasnt possible to get national rankings for fifa.com - but keepup only ranked 7 as a soccer site in Australia. FIFA, premierleague, goal, livescore all ranked higher in Australia.

Nice stirring account of the Soceroos' recent incredible WC success,
but the headline really ought to end with a question mark because the article actually says bugger all about the way forward for Australian soccer.

How this World Cup can change Australian soccer
Devoid of international stars, the Socceroos were widely written off before the World Cup. Following their success, will their self-belief and fighting spirit spark a new era of talent and interest in our domestic leagues?www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au
We have to read this sort of crap every four years.
Those who know their soccer know that the socceroos were just ok, played to the level of a middling national team, and in a one-off soccer game that can be enough to get you a result against superior opposition.
Play again next week and the result is reversed.
Play again next week, and the opposition is probably scoring a lucky goal from a deflection.
That's soccer.
Don't get too excited by the implications for the domestic league.
It means nothing.
Look at last night's piddly crowd for the first A-League game in about 4 weeks.
Look at Wookie's internet traffic figures, showing the A-League struggling to keep up with Womens AFL (actually, that's not just the A-League - that's all soccer).
The round ballers have been settling down after the high they had through the WC.
They'll start moaning about how the media & 'everyone' is against them.
The reality is as you list above.
The Soccer crowd need to realise that this ain't like much of the world. We have sporting options. Also the best players will go OS to play. Thus the Aleague will remain as a 3rd rate competition.
Yet, most people will always hope any national team, soccer included, do well. Thats about it. & they need to recognise that fact so they stop getting so angry, frustrated & stressed. Its not good for them!
first time ive seen them do the whole "is AFL/NRL stealing the talent we need to be world competitive" schtick though - normally the AOC does that crap

They could always pay their playersIMO this is the biggest factor.
It's what the GAA fear could happen w.r.t. AFL.

The hype around now wouldn’t be half of what it was around 2006. I remember going to Victory games back then truly believing they would be averaging 30k plus crowds by now and that they would be one of the countries biggest clubs. Unfortunately I think the status quo is inevitable.![]()
A-League of their own: How Australian football can capitalise on the Socceroos' World Cup run
As the springboard for 'generation next,' the A-League Men must strike while the Socceroos' iron is hot, writes Samantha Lewis.www.abc.net.au
