Gawn & ROB should be the starting rucks this year. Cant do Gawn n Grundy with the bye. Hayes the probable rookie ruck.
Will never play Marshall in the ruck line and is even more risky this year with Ryder running on gas. Without Ryder Marshall's scoring suffers. Unless BTC can effectively replace Ryder. Also Marshall too injury prone.

Makes me keener on English, can cover during R14.

The trouble with relying on Hayes is if he starts R1 and holds his place he has probably reached his max value and been traded out prior to the byes. Not sure it's worth holding $400k on the bench for long just for one score on field, that might not count anyway if he spuds it that week.

Agree about Marshall, I would have picked him as a forward with more cover, but he's too risky on the ruck line with possibly no cover.

Picking a R/F for flexibility almost never works out well, reminds me of Ceglar a couple years back where he was an OKAY option but gave that flexibility. Just ended up being a dud pick top to bottom. I'd only consider English if you see him finishing top 10, otherwise I don't believe the points you lose during the other rounds justify the cover for one bye round.

100% agree. I'm not going to pick English just to cover one bye round. If it's 50/50 with him and another player that might make the difference. He did average 100+ in 2020 and will surely be the dogs main ruck next season as Stef Martin is cooked.

Going to be interesting with Sweet re-signing and expecting more opportunity as well. Too many unknowns with English for me.

Also you only score from the best 18 across all lines. If you want two premo rucks with the same bye week, just balance the byes with the other lines that have more than 2 players.

COVID will stuff it up anyways, so keep trades in hand and don't stress too much

Last year round 14 bye had the 5 top scoring rucks:
Gawn 126.5, Grundy 121.9, Naitanui 113.6, Darcy 109.7, Hickey 105.5

Round 14 onwards:
Grundy 993 points, 9 games, 107 ave
Gawn 1013 points, 9 games, 112.56 ave
Naitanui 1059 points. 9 games 117.67 ave
Darcy 1205 points, 9 games, 133.39 ave
Hickey 903 points, 9 games, 100.33 ave

Goldstein 1185, 10 games, 118.5
McInerney 1106, 10 games, 110.6

Other than Darcy, sling shotting any of the top scorers in round 14 to Goldstein or McInerney would have scored you more points.

Slingshotting Gawn and Grundy to those two would have netted;
2 extra games
285 extra combined points
9.54 combined points per game more
$373,600 more cash

13 games of 2 of Gawn/Grundy/Darcy then 10 games of Marshall/Naitanui might be my plan.

Port Adelaide football manager Chris Davies has hinted first-round selection Josh Sinn could be on the road to a debut early in the season.

The 18-year-old defender faces a challenge to break into one of the competition’s most cohesive backlines, but hasn’t missed a beat since he pulled on the teal, black and white.

The Sandringham Dragons product has already endeared himself to the Port faithful, having last month told SEN SA he was “pretty fixated on heading over to the ‘Pear.’”

“Josh is a young lad who is really smart and articulate,” Davies told SEN SA Breakfast on Friday.

“He probably knew that we had a level of interest, so on that basis, he decided to make sure he was really up with the history of the club… he did that off of his own bat.”

Port Adelaide have been careful not to run their recruits ragged, Davies cautioned, but Sinn has made a smooth transition into life at Alberton.

Here's the lesson for the day .....always read past the headlines on Rookies :$

Sinn will compete with young defenders Miles Bergman, Lachie Jones and Riley Bonner for minutes, while experienced heads Sam Mayes and Trent McKenzie stand in his way too.

He was one of four to join the Power through the national draft; Davies says all are “fitting in really well,” but it will be a longer wait for local midfielder Hugh Jackson, struck down by a hip injury.

“We knew when we drafted him that he was probably going to be a little longer-term, he’s got quite a light frame as well,” Davies explained.

“We thought we could either push him through the year and he might battle a little bit, or we can try and get him ready and effectively take a longer term approach.

“He had that hip surgery a couple of days ago, it went fine and I’m sure he’ll be back in training in probably February or March with the opportunity to play a decent part of next year’s season.”
