Went down to training today-

Bit of a skills session. Nothing to hard on the body. Skills weren’t the greatest. Few dropped marks etc.

Things I noticed:
Hanners and ryder on light duties.
Billings doing a one on one session. Won’t be too long till he’s back training with the group.
No sign of Zak jones

It’ll be interesting to see the lineup this week. I reckon hayes plays.

Was Bytel out there doing full training?

I'm not much of a stats guy but I found this article quite interesting...

Fox Sports: These 5 rules project who’ll crash out of the top eight. There’s one big surprise: AFL Predicted Ladder.
That reassured me.
I’ve literally been saying to mates all pre season that the 2 teams I’m most confident in dropping out of the 8 are Essendon & Sydney.

Both of them overachieved last year with a young side, just like we did in 2020.
Teams like Port, Melb, Bulldogs & Richmond in the recent past have shown that it’s not uncommon to drop out for a year or 2 before jumping back up.

Geelong also look most likely of the top 4 to drop out

Billings has had patches of form where people thought he might be better than Bont but he's a bit mentally fragile and is a bit of a cruiser as far as competitive drive goes. Last year wasn't the bland reliable player level that we know a bulk of his footy is played at, he has another level he can go to but doubt that he ever makes A grade his base line. Seems to not have the passion to be a really hard competitor at the top level. He's still a handy middler though.
I don’t think lack of passion is the right word for JB.

He’s a self proclaimed footy head, and is very driven.
I just don’t think he has that killer instinct that the great players have. The absolute competitive beast trait that lifts in big games and big moments when their team needs them. Even if they’re having a bad game.

Gresh and Steeley have it. JB unfortunately doesn’t. Doesn’t mean he can’t still be a valuable role player in our team. He just needs to realise his role and have better players around him.

What I found interesting about the article was about how it focused on teams dropping out way more the teams coming in. I though the selection of teams going in was quite arbitrary and not based on anything substantial

looking at our schedule, If we want finals. I expect us to be 4-1 or 3-2 after round 5. The only losses i can see is Dockers and Tigers but ideally we should be winning both.
Dockers games are always very close, don’t no why but they are, so mark that one down for a win.
Then get Michito to show Dusty his tricks “He showcases a terrific turn of speed when powering away from stoppages and isn't afraid to dish out a fend-off”
So thats 5 after 5 …. Go Saints

If you think we've got it bad at the moment, West Coast have 25 players to choose from this week

Only negative I can see is that we don't play them until July, they might have some back by then.

107 to 49 wasn't close.....and they may be without Taberner in Rnd 2 as well.

Personally I think we need to be at least 4-1 heading into Round 6, our list is highly underrated by many

I had heard they were training tomorrow morning and was hoping to drop in. But if they trained today, that seems unlikely.

I don't. Their list has only gotten older and they've got no decent talent pushing through.
A lot of supporters look over the fence and think the grass is greener.
Richmond have fallen off there perch , Cotchin and Riewoldt are well past there peak and when Parker gets into there 22 you know they are far from a strong side.

Whilst you’re right that our core group are old nowadays, in a fully fit side Parker is nowhere near our 22. We recruited him last year because we had been so injury riddled and had no other choice.

He has potential to improve too. I think we can safely assume that he'll never be a star, but he offers a point of difference and can contribute if he can get it together. He'll be better after a proper pre-season with your mob.
