We're winning the hitouts but getting smashed in clearance.
Forward line is too tall. When we get it down our end, the ball is being walked out with too much ease. Smothering has been good but tackling average. That being said, when you are penalised every time you look at an opponent no wonder you get a bit shy. Amartey is read to step into seniors if needed. Some of the young kids need another solid preseason before I can make a call.

Not a bad half. Melbourne's pressure is really high. We have a bit of an issue that's been all season really where we look best when our fleet-footed outside types (Warner Jr., Rankin, Shipley, Campbell, HHK, even Wicks and Ronke) are involved with their run and carry, but our inside group aren't effective enough at working it out to them. So we get in these games that are full of rolling scrums with few meaningful plays.
Can't be a good sign if Callum Sinclair looks our most attacking clearance player.

First Half takes
- Gould (one contest aside) been really good. Think Melican has been alright as well.
- Campbell, get the ball in his hands and ball to boot.
- Forward line structure is non existent, missing McLean as the deep option.
- Amarteys hands and contest been great, needs to finish.
- Ladhams been really disappointing. Looks like Laidler has a lot more faith in Sinclair which is saying something.
- roberts came into it a bit that quarter, but needs to lift.
- Wicks. I don’t think there’s been a greater downturn in a players game from Round 3 2021 to now. Doesn’t look like it.
- Ronke buzzing around looks lively.
- Sheldrick been good
- Bell needs to lift a bit as well.
McAndrew is evidently being played for his development- but he’s not really a VFL standard player (yet).

Funny they're showing a 'best player in heavy traffic' and it's a Dees player. That's the exact kind of player our reserves side is missing IMO.
The players that look like they can contribute to the senior team ATM are Gould & Sheldrick.
Can't really see anyone else. Gould is going along very nicely & will be starting 22 in 2023 should he continue this progression.

We've gone in too tall. 2nd half we need to re-structure. Sinclair and Ladhams share ruck. Amartey and McAndrew tall front half options. There were times we had all 4 on the ground at the same time. No more than 3. HHK needs to be swung forward as well where he showed good promise when first drafted. Not sure why he's in defence?

Appreciate the comments about being too tall, but that's just a function of our list being unbalanced. Are we meant to just rest listed players? Pretty much all the talls are on the AFL list.
