They don't race , whoever hits the front going past Middle Park CC wins , sorry off topic

Aye. It is not sport imo. Don't care re off topic.

Someone will correct me, but I have a vague memory of a practice match between Port and South being called off.

I reckon our Round 3 game v the Borough will attract a huge crowd. Could be a slightly older demographic but a very noisy and argumentative one. Hopefully a lot of blokes who played for both clubs will rock up.

The world's best scone, jam and cream used to be flogged from a stall under the Port grandstand. In the old days there was also a fair trade in cheap products. Proximity of the docks to the Club may have helped this but that is just speculation.:D

I'm hoping the game will be a draw 🤞

I think you left out Nick Shipley - an interesting signing being a former GWS listed player. Big sized inside mid, wonder if we are taking a closer look at him with a view to picking him up mid-season or end of the year.

Isn't he now pursuing soccer?

Already had four years on a list. Just doesn't seem damaging enough, don't see what use we'd have for him at afl level

Jeremy Laidler with some thoughts on the reserves game v GWS;
"Angus Sheldrick had a really good game and it was tough with the conditions, but he was hard for the full four quarters," Laidler said.
"Pete Ladhams played a full game in the ruck and as a forward. In the second-half he really put his name on the game and competed as a really strong level."

Appears all the guys coming back from injury got through unscathed.

The Swans reserves open their season on Friday March 25 at Whitten Oval against Footscray at 4.35pm.

great to hear about Gus and Ladhams... I was happy to read that Amartey and Sheather got through ok.
Havnt seen much of Sheather, but he signed a 2 year extension within a couple of months of being drafted - pretty rare for a rookie to get that opportunity. Also, Horse said he was close to a debut last year. More pressure for Wicks?
I rate Amartey.. Buddy, Logan and Amartey (as a very mobile, 2nd ruck, 3rd tall forward) could be a Very dangerous forward line. Only injury to Hickey / Ladhams will see that eventuate this year.. hope Amartey can get his body together, otherwise he's a Sam Reid mk II

How do we all feel how Laidler is going as VFL Coach? I think he has some points to prove this year.
VFL team is purely development for the senior list. Feel like he's being a good job of that. Players like Blakey went into the VFL, developed as a defender and came back like he always played there. I don't think the Swans are concerned about the teams performances so long as the individuals continue to come through strongly

I thought he was bit slow to react in game last year. I'm hoping that post COVID lockdowns the lads will be better this year and really have a chance to shine and show their best.

I'd really like a better showing against some of the top sides.

I think a strong AFL side generally does need a strong reserves side. I remember a few years ago when Brisbane rebounded and finished 2nd on the ladder, they went undefeated in the NEAFL. That same year Richmond won the flag, and also won the VFL flag.

I feel like what we might be lacking are some "ressies superstars". Guys like Rose, B. Jack, Towers etc might not've been much at senior level but they were dominant in the NEAFL. Our current equivalents, like Clarke, Taylor and last year Gray, I'm just not sure are on the same level. They can't really lead from the front and turn games like a young side needs.

Didn't get to see much ressies back in the day but I seriously doubt Brandon Jack was a dominant player even in the neafl. Clarkes disposal means he's always going to be a liability but Taylor is on the same level as those guys. Then theres guys like Fox, Sinclair, who hopefully won't play seniors, plus the likes of ORiordan and Ronke, even Gould has played in a sanfl flag. They can all def 'lead from the front', and 'turn games'.

Has a fixture been released yet?
Will those guys get a run somewhere this weekend? Maybe playing a scratchy against the Giants again if theres no official fixture
