I was so set on 2 of the big 3, I ignored everyone else. Has Marshall had a clean preseason?
To the best of my knowledge, yes .....single ruck, Marshall 26 yo ....right in his prime

Yes he is my R2 I don't think Ryder will play much this season and Marshall can definately go up another level or two.

Even before the Darcy news I had Marshall at R2. He will average well over 100 but if one of the others Darcy/Grundy/NicNat are tearing it apart it won't break the bank doing an upgrade. I was keen on Witts for a while but he can have some really poor scores I'm not sure he is really worth the gamble. If I was going to do that I would go whole hog and get Preuss R2
Witts is mainly about the hit out's. Doesn't do that much around the ground compared to the SP rucks which limits his ceiling. With an improving midfield/team he could lift a bit though

Honestly the only thing that stopped me giving more consideration to Witts is their draw, pretty sure he plays every good ruck in the first 2 months of the season when ideally he would be making cash.

Think he still makes 120k+, will probably just be more of a slow burn than if the fixtures were kinder.

He was touch and go for round 1 too coming back from the ACL. The young fella Moyle has done OK in the praccy matches, so it's not impossible he gets a rest at some stage.

Chol is a better ruck/fwd than he has usually played with too, not sure what that does to his scoring. Can definitely see him sitting out the 4th quarter if the Suns are well ahead vs WC.

Ok, I’ve slept on it* and here’s how I see the Darcy options:

a) hold Darcy, play Hayes this week, hope Hayes gets near Gawn’s 92 to minimise damage and that Darcy is back for 21 games from next week. Obviously risky with a first gamer, however on the plus side I think that StK will smash pies (bulk SC points), Hayes is mature aged, and I suspect StK will want to play Roma forward a fair bit to stretch Collingwood’s weakened defence (lots of ruck for Hayes). However, another risk is that as it’s a calf issue holding Darcy back, not the thumb, there must be some chance that he doesn’t play next round !? 😱

b) trade to NicNat, hope he kills it despite being 32 and having a shite midfield around him. Trade out when ready. Big con is that he has the R13 bye whereas Darcy, Gawn, Grundy have R14 😖

c) trade to Marshall, pray he stays fit and gets DPP after 6 rounds, or scores enough to stay pure ruck / be upgraded later. If I do this, I’d prefer to swing him forward when upgrading to a fallen premo ruck later on. This would be more appealing if we have coverage for byes (Xerri via Hayes cull would nice!)

d) pick Witts, hope he averages 95+ and spend $200k to upgrade other lines to bridge 15-25pt loss. A better midfield should help Witts scoring this year. Upgrade when possible.

e) go nuclear cash gen: premo + Pruess and Hayes, throw cash elsewhere. May God have mercy on your soul.

Anyone have any other ideas? Would be interested to hear which way people are leaning…

Id definitely pick Roman

Surely Moyle, Chol and Witts don't all play?

Who takes Ben Kings role .....Chol ?
Casboult is in for King. Chol fwd/ruck.

I meant for that Moyle has done better than expected, so they be prepared to play him in one game to give Witts a spell.

I’m going Marshall get as many points possible R1 and trade Darcy or Gawn back in. Only 1 trade.

Going Darcy > Witts and then MID Rookie > Rowell

Whatever points gap there is between Witts/Marshall will be bridged and even exceeded by Rowell over a rookie.

Witts and Rowell should make 150k each, and Rowell can be played on field as long as required as I can see him average 100-105.

Gawn only coming down in price so hopefully I can time Witts > Gawn or even Darcy if fit

My reasoning on why b) is best, and what I'm going with:

If NicNat continues his form last year, I've gone sideways from 1 premium ruck to another. If he struggles in round 1 and/or 2 and I want Darcy, I'll sideways to Darcy without a price drop.

So either way, NicNat either plays really well and I choose to keep him, or he stinks it up for 2 rounds and I can get rid of him without copping the price drop.

Nic Nat's scoring pattern the last two years, has been strong after the byes ....improves with his TOG increasing, as the season progress's

Darcy apparently has a hammy OR a calf, depending on the reports you read. I like your blue sky thinking, but what if he doesn't come up next week? I am running option E, FWIW, because I'd already locked in English in as an F.

If you take his 1.69ppg from last year and give him an average TOG of 65%, that's a 110 average which I don't hate.

I guess I'll see how he goes round 1 and 2.

Hope you went a) and played Hayes on field

Gone with Gawn + Preuss (Hayes)

Was going to go Grundy instead of Gawn but piked out midway and was going back to Gawndy Wednesday night before changing on Thursday again. Hopefully Preuss/Hayes can average 80 for that second ruck spot and hopefully Xerri will get ruck coverage by R6 so hopefully at least 1 of the 3 plays each week. Big gamble but could pay off.

Anyone else thinking of taking Preuss now to get Hayes score this week?

Also got Xerri in the fwd line so should open up a R/F swing after R6.
