Everything on here needs to be taken with a grain of salt and Volbeat mentioned this in his original comment..

Not sure its that big a deal really.. and discouraging people from bringing rumours to the board is not something we should do regardless.

Like I said though.. pick 5, and thus any chance of Phillipou, is more than likely gooooorrne anyway. If we dont give it directly to the Suns we will, at the very least, be spliting it for other picks to give them..

So its funny people are still mentioning the lads name!

Turn SEN off.

Remember Sydney wanted our first last year. We don't have to lose pick 5 to get this deal done.

Idk who brought it up first but something about him and his family being massive port supporters and not wanting to be drafted by the crows. If you don't know this for a fact then just shut up.
The lad himself said he was a Powa barracker in his Final Siren interview so I'm guessing that's where they got that from.....but they failed to acknowledge he very quickly followed that up with the fact he's not a Crows hater by any means. He also said like most lads it would be good if he could stay in SA but had no problem moving interstate if that did eventuate.

I dont listen to SEN..

Just think pick 5, with maybe a second in the 30’s coming back the crows, is about right for Rankine who will be a massive in for the crows..

And its exactly that, and probably more, that most posters here would be asking for, if Rankine was our player and was requesting a trade to another club..1

I do get you need to get the deal when when getting them to nominate your club.

I just think as a rebuilding club we should have the right to say, no, this pick 5 is off the table. A future first is very fair.

The chances of that pick being outside the top 10 are remote.

I wrote earlier about why the Suns would probably not want a 2023 first.. given they have a couple of highly rated academy players next year that could go top 5/top 10..

Which would mean they’d need to offload any 2023 1sts..

They will want pick 5 this year.. and its hard to see it not being involved in the trade in some form.

Yeah I bet Melbourne where really regretting spending pick 3 on Luke Jackson during the grand final last year hey.
Bit of a difference though isnt there.. as, when melbourne used pick 3 on Jackson, they already had an elite midfield led by Oliver and Petracca..

Its not like they needed to focus on getting the very best mid available.

I couldn't give a shit about their academy players.

Clubs get unders all the time in trades.

A future first would end up being more than we received for Dangerfield, it's fair.

Well, it not about what you and I want Peter..

I just reacon the Suns will say fxxk off to our 2023 1st.. and for the reason i gave in my last comment.

It just wouldnt make sense for them to take on another early 2023 draft pick when they are probably going to have to offload it, along with their own 2023 1st, anyway due to academy players..

Be a dumb move really.

Not really, they can trade it next year to poach a decent needs player or can trade it for another teams pick the year after. I understand Suns fans being myopic when it comes down to it but their management would like to maximise the value here, if they can trade out 2 picks next year for picks the year after when they aren't flush with academy, they can be in a spot to make a play for a gun with 3 picks...or given it is GC, get another bunch of 1st round picks in because everyone else has abandoned the shithole.

Our 2023 1st round pick would be a highly tradable item for GCS either this year or next. They might be able to use it next year with their own 1st to get Pick 1 or 2, and hence before a bid on their Academy players.

In the worst case, they might even be able to trade it back to us next year for our 2024 1st! Or is that banned by the AFL?

I just think if it gets to a mediation point surely the Suns are forced to accept a future top 10 pick is fair.

If they can't turn a top 10 pick into something, then they are in worse shape than we think.

It's nothing against you. They've picked off some of our club greats over the years, I've had enough of it.

So, pick 5, future 2nd (c.23) and future 3rd (c.41) for Rankine, 43 and their future first (c.11)?

Works out to pick 10ish on points and gets around their early matching issue next year and helps with their tight list spots this year.

Two firsts in 2023 for JHF, trading up to elite top 3 mid or two first rounders if pick 5ish has an elite mid (supposed to be a stronger draft). Rankine, top 25 pick and Michalanney this year.

I could live with that.

Absolutely agree .....to get max advantage for a rebuilding list, getting Rankine and holding #5 is the best option ......UNLESS there's not a player at 5/6/7/8 that you want ....which is doubtful

The #12 equivalent of Charlie Cameron is still the benchmark ......current output over potential

I think we will have some type of plan to keep 5 and trade in Rankine and would be well aware of how they are going to approach the draft. The club will be adamant in bringing in some more young talent rather than just hanging their hopes entirely on Izak - Gold Coast can ask all they want but in the end they will accept a "reasonable offer"

Exactly, trading future is not a bad thing at all.

I'd also question how likely it is they actually have a top ten.

Projections this far out are just 50% correct max, and less so for a qld academy player you'd suspect.

Right now gold coast have the cattle, they need to take a break with the top 10 picks, concentrate on re-signing Rowell, Anderson, and next year the will be in position with 2 x firsts before the get this academy picks.

Sounds like Rowe has re-signed

Our 2022 1st would be a highly tradable item full stop. If GC won't take it, then we could auction it off to the highest bidder and with a bit of luck we might end up with a couple of 1sts for it (ie mid 2022 1st and back end 2023 1st if that team improves). Pass the 2022 1st to GC and maybe add in a future 2nd for Rankine, we then keep the other 1st to stay in next years 1st round

There are so many ways we could look to wheel and deal here to try and keep pick 5
