Couldn’t agree more. Doedee as a KPD just doesn’t work. One of the most frustrating things this season was seeing him regularly outbodied and outsized by key towards. He’s shorter than both Brodie smith and Jordan Dawson!
One of the reasons that Collingwood has been successful is their defensive structure. A lot of teams are running with a smaller 2nd key defender.

The 2022 pies have a lot of the 2012 crows about them, everything going right, impossible self belief leading to a momentum high not explain by personnel

Like the Sando spike, will be interesting if this too is a mirage ultimately

One of the reasons that Pies have been so successful is that they look to play on at all costs, they also use the corridor as avenue towards goal.
No fear footy!

They play a defensive zone as their mid sized defenders are capable of matching up on key forwards if need be.

Like the Cats they have many defenders who take plenty of marks... which then allows them to rebound quickly.

As a neutral it makes watching their games so enjoyable.

One thing to note with the "No fear footy", is that they have the players that have the skill level, to execute the kick/handball and the receiver that can similarly do the same.

The Elliot goal vs Dons, was the perfect example of this. No Fear Footy with players that had the skillset to execute what needed to be done.

Maybe you can fluke it once, but the fact that similar passage of play took place vs the Blues demonstrates they have what it takes. (so does all the previous close games they won too).

It really all starts with Darcy Moore from Full Back, nails a kick to CHB and then you have Daicos the next link in the chain.

If there is one criticism of the Pies, is that they lack an elite big gun tall forward.

Worrell is a better footballer than anyone else in this discussion, is now the third tall, and as a result, Doedee will never be playing that 3rd tall role again if everyone is fit.

Likely Round 1 defence
B: Doedee - Butts - Parnell
HB: Worrell - Murray - Smith
Int: Hinge
Rotating between wing and defence: Dawson

If Butts or Murray were to go down injured, McAsey or Borlase would get a run as things currently stand, unless we decide to trial Himmelberg back there.

It’s also entirely possible that Worrell develops into a genuine key defender. His improvement in one on one contests in 2022 was dramatic and he’s 195cm.

Hinge and Dawson are both better options as the “third tall” than Doedee too, as again, they’re both taller than him.

Doedee will continue to be best utilised in an intercepting role where his direct opponent is the 5th most dangerous forward (note: Brodie Smith needs to play on the 6th most dangerous forward if we continue to persist with him back there, because he can’t defend in a phone box), with a max height of 190cm.
Worrell a better footballer than Doedee?

Settle down, I've been a Worrell fan long before we drafted him but he's got a way to go before that occurs.

Barrett seems to have changed his tune, or does this not apply to Rankine and/or the Crows?

AFL Media journalist Damian Barrett also hit out at West Coast’s reaction, comparing Rioli’s situation to Luke Jackson’s, who’s seeking a return to WA and likely to land at Fremantle despite also being open to joining the Eagles.

It comes as the Dockers have reportedly offered Jackson a long-term deal that could be worth as much as $900,000 per season ahead of a blockbuster negotiation this trade period that’s expected to involve multiple first-round picks.

“Clubs get rid if players that don’t want to leave too,” Barrett highlighted on Triple M.

“I thought it was too (a bit rich) and it was strong ... they did support him (Rioli) yes, and they gave him QC support.

“But he’s going for family reasons as much as it is anything else. Haven’t we as an industry taught ourselves to embrace the family component?

To a degree that sounds like us - we just haven't been able to implement it.

Rioli has already said its about money and setting up his family financially. Barrett is a w***er.

Pies are very similar to 2017 richmond... avg list on paper.. insane high pressure. Small fwd line... good defence.. likes are very similar
Richmond had an acerage list on paper in 2017?..

Really?

Rewoldt a pretty handy forward.. how many snags has he kicked now?..

That Dusty lad went alright in 2017..

Trent Cotchin?.. brownlow medal winner..

And who was that bloke they had in defense?.. Alex Rance?.. he went alright.

Geez… some average players there..

They also had a fleet of small to medium mids that not only ran all day, they applied a ton of pressure and, most importantly, KICKED GOALS!

Money and family reasons aren't mutually exclusive, but one is selfish apparently, the other fine?

I think it's refreshing to hear an almost Pippen-esque narrative coming from an AFL footballer. Pragmatic and honest.

As long as the player puts in and plays the majority of the games in the contract they wanted.

Talking role only, Worrell is far more suited to the 3rd tall than Doedee. Not as proven a player but far better suited. Take the Carlton game - Worrell did a great job when caught one on one with McKay and DeKonig- Tom is completely out of his depth due to size in those match ups

Some guy on twitter said straight swap for poulter. Reasonable?
No. While it might look reasonable to a random poster, it doesn't to an Adelaide supporter.

We don't need Poulter and he would take up a list spot. We need something we can put towards something that we actually want, rather than have something foisted upon us.

Roo = Mihocek

Dusty is Dusty but degoey has very similar x factor and hurt factor

Cotchin = pendels

Rance = Moore

Small fwds / mids who kick goals and pressure = Elliot / Ginivan

Their lists / pressure are very very similar
