Fair comment .....can i counter with this ....2 years ago, just having lost Brad Crouch, and in the early stages of the rebuild .....Matt Crouch was important to retain

Now 2 years later, having added Pedlar, Cook, Soligo, Schoenberg, Rachelle, and Dawson, and with games under their belt.....it's not important to retain Matt, in fact, he's become redundant to the new Nicks gameplan
I think signing a previous all Australian and B&F winner at massively under his previous salary was a good deal for the club.

Pretty much no lose. We get a good look to see how he recovers from injury, and if he doesn't shape up then it's an easy salary to move

And if we can't find the list spots and want to keep Hinge, just pay Crouch out and move on. There's no way this list should be pushing our salary cap and Crouch shouldn't be on huge coin based on how it played out last year.
Crouch would be on $350k or so. Which I'd like to be on, but ultimately is pretty meaningless in list strategy.

He would be on much more than that. Previous AA and Club champ. It would be totally disrespectful of the club to offer that type of money when his last contract was done.

When was this AA and B&F? How long ago? Crouch missed a year with injury, there was always the risk his body would fail him again and yet we signed him for 2 years. Then there is the view whether we actually needed him given our midfield mix and the need to develop our midfield. Surprise surprise he doesn’t fit, he’s been dropped 3 times and that’s even with Sloane being injured.

Now we are in a position we’ve got a guy the rest of the competition knows who has been dropped 3 times, is he in demand? For someone to take him we will need to pay another player not to pay for us? Or does he pay SANFL for the year on a large salary? For us it’s a lose lose outcome which was foreseeable when we gave him 2 years when 1 would have sufficed as no one wanted him, if they did he was gone.

As for the likes you’ve received for backing in a club decision, not surprising.

Sounds like Sloane when he was resigned. Definition of insanity .

It's kind of hard to call a two year deal a geniunely bad one. Just a low risk move that didn't pan out, and of course, if he gets traded, we get more for Matt Crouch then we would have last year.

not necessarily, he'd be RFA if we'd extended him by only 1. May have been better with compo.

Hopefully but I don’t see him having much demand
Fingers crossed the himmelberg rumours are true and we get some clubs sniffing on some other fringe players. I must admit it would be a real turn up if somehow m crouch ended up being involved in any deal for rankine, either directly with GC or as part of a multiclub trade including picks

what makes you believe it was massively under. You have a habit of down-valuing bad contracts. You seen Matt's contract?

You’re guessing as to what his salary he is. But surprise surprise, you’re backing another club decision, one that could see us paying another player not to play for us.
Irrespective of what Crouch on .....I'd suggest we need his $$$ freed up, to potentially accommodate Rankine

This paying players to play at another club, simply says to supporters ....our list management team stuffed up

There will be 100% a Club that will trade for Crouch .....Clubs always believe they can rejuvenate players

Last time he was on the market, there was a major injury query .....and maybe the Contract Crouch was seeking to leave & play-off against the Crows offer, was too high an asking price

On his current Contract value, he'll find a home .....Gold Coast, Geelong, Sydney, and WCE, a few Clubs I could envisage being interested ...given their playing style

Who gets the credit for giving Crouch 2 years and being in a position where he needs to find a home to move him on, which potentially could see us paying some of his contract or we pay him to play SANFL next year if he can’t and he takes up a list spot.

So we sack someone for an error that’s not even an error yet? At this stage we aren’t paying any of his salary to play at another club and we may get some draft compensation - even a pick 45 or something - that helps bring a father son in the door?

We also signed a player who has been terrific for the club coming off a 12 month injury at 26 yrs old. And did signing Matt cost us a player we wished to keep?

We backed Crouch to bounce back this year.

That way we'd have a player we want to keep already contracted in 2023 under reasonable conditions.

Or a useful trade chip where we hold all the cards.

Instead he hasn't bounced back. Has found himself out of the team. Not because he's playing badly per se but because the competition has moved past players of his skill-set.

So now we've ended up with a contracted player we don't want and neither does anyone else. Our error was in predicting the bounce back. We thought there were no suitors only because of his injury-plagued year. Actually it was more so because slow accumulators were becoming extinct.

We misread the way the game was moving.

If true ....and Himmelberg is the backup FWD / RUCK .....we'd want to be taking a replacement in this Draft .....hopefully Keeler

He's a late teens Draft Pick though .....so, some magic required ......I think Keeler has some good traits

A list spot. We are so tight we are struggling to sign players such as Hinge.

So perhaps we now clear a list spot by trading Matt as we need it? As much as people bag Matt on here he is still a solid midfielder and will have a couple of takers on the market

“One that could see us” - there are plenty of things to rag on the club about but let’s get a few months ahead of potential issues

Misreading the game trend ? .....hard to read the introduction of the 6 x 6 x 6 rule ....and the "stand" rule

When Crouch was dropped in 2020, he did in fact dramatically change his game .....more fwd handball, more longer kicks .....2 years on, he's reverted to the "old crab style" .....albeit you can see glimpses of trying to go fwd

But the game is too quick, the way Nicks wants to play .....so a team that is more measured in its ball movement, will suit Crouch
