I just finished watching this - one of the best bits of media Nick's ever done I reckon. Completely different side to him.
Totally agree. You can see why he has been so sucessful in everything he has done. Everything is with passion and he is just one of those individuals people are drawn to.

It was interesting to hear that for his last 4 years he was on yearly contracts,.then got the tap to retire. I would have thought the club would have treated him better than that?

Whilst i agree ultimately Ross' question of "what do Collingwood have that the saints dont" is pretty silly.

They played in a granny 4 years ago and most of that core group is still around and they just finished 4th, they have ANZAC day, Queens birthday, Holden Centre.

They are and will always be a big time club.

The only appeal we really have over them would be slightly more anonimity and hopefully a much better contract.

I hope we get him, have said that right from the get go but lets not pretend were an equal club, were not.
They are like a reverse St Kilda. Collingwood could fall in a barrel of thumbs and come up sucking a tit. Just look at the mess that happened with Ned Guy, Treolar, all their draft busts and dumb decisions, the racism scandals, their gf losses... but they get a few father son godsends and up the ladder they go again.

Any St Kilda board member would sell max King and all rights to the Riewoldt sons for a cheek swab of Collingwood's DNA.

Same, but maybe that's more Nick's ego than the club. He did have to drain his knees for a majority of his final few years and it probably made the club extra cautious.

Listened to this today. Great interview, it was so nice to hear him be open and honest about everything that was asked. First time listening to that podcast, they do a good job. Think I'll keep an eye on it moving forward.

The bit about meeting Gresham but having a beer with his father because they were a similar age was pretty funny. The pitch that Eddie made was a good one.. Imagine losing Riewoldt to Collingwood.
I think one club players have a higher reverence in the game. At least for me, Tony Lockett isn't in my top 5 Saints for that reason.

Almost looks like father and son.

Darragh Joyce has been delisted.

Darragh Joyce has been delisted.

Fair enough, think he did a pretty good job all things considered.

But leaves us short down there:

Wilkie
Howard
Battle
Sharman (not sure if he stays in defence)
Highmore (not really a key back)
Lienert (not really a key back)
Adams (looks miles away apparently)
Allison (not really a key back)

Presumably we'll grab at least one state league tall back.

Can Jack Hayes play as a key back?

Writing was on the wall when he was dropped with Howard injured.

Well done Darragh to go from someone who had never played the sport to playing 13 games. Thats a huge effort.

That was brilliant. Riveting viewing, especially watching the raw emotion when he spoke about Jack and winning the premiership, standing alone at Richmond station.

Interesting how he mentioned every coach he had, except Watters, just referring to the heart being ripped out the club.

The guy is a legend. Now he just has to make sure his boys are interested in footy!

Now he can pursue his true passion of playing the skin flute full time

Talent wise I agree with Ross tbh. Unfortunately St.Kilda is the most mentally fragile club in any sports code in Australia.

Clearly there is a bond between these two going by the interview.
And that can only be a good thing.
But what had a bigger impact on me is the body language that I saw from Lenny.
Either it has been too long since last seeing Lenny, or there has been a maturing in his outlook. Probably a bit of both.
Maybe I’m still besotted by him.
Anyway.
The big change is that he has developed a piercing stare, a focus on his interlocutor, that is very penetrating. That’s either going to scare people or pump them up.
As a leader, exactly what he’d want.
