I haven't been paying too much attention and plan not to. But im not sure I love our vibe... seems like doubling down on Grundy and not doing much else. Hopefully we make something more interesting out of the Jackson pick. The club still has a feeling of stubbornness to it that I can't shake.

The Bowes trade got my attention though. Super frustrating when poorly run teams give your competition free hits.just because you can tie picks to salary dumps doesn't mean you have to give away a top 10 pick... surely the cap squeeze can't be so bad that 2 years on the books can't be ridden through and other players backhanded. If the AFL wants dumps and complicated pick trades they need to make the salary floor more flexible and bankable so average players aren't getting overpaid and then moving to good clubs for a lot less.

Geez we're dark on Max and very trusting of footy media all of a sudden. I reckon when you've been the All-Australian ruck 6 times, you're the Captain and you've just played a season injured and where every kickout is sat on your head so the entire opposition can knee you in the kidneys, you're entitled to be keen to get a good ruck partner into the club.
Well yeah how many times did he mark it 55 out, stop. Walk 30s backwards without looking then turn around before blasting it on the full. I'd love to have faith he just wants to share the ruck and there definitely is a side of that. Same time I see a world where max is calling himself Plugger at training

We showed interest apparently, but it's his choice in the end and obviously he feels he'll get a game at Geelong. Selwood's gone, the midfield's aging and he should be able to step in. He's played as a defender at GC, but was drafted as a midfielder. Gonna be hard for us to recruit that sort of player as long as Oliver, Trac, Viney and the rest of our similar aged midfield brigade are around fighting for spots.

There's no big forwards moving around other than McStay. We're losing a quality ruckman and gaining one.

To be fair, our playstyle this year would be a hard sell to gun forwards if we were looking to poach contracted players, but clubs also lock them down with decent contracts for a reason.

I'd take a gun lockdown defender as well, but no chance someone like Maynard or Starcevic are moving. I think we're doing alright with what's on offer.

Happy to keep beating this drum. Everyone on every trade show mentions how Geelong players take less to keep adding talent. Haven't heard a single ******* person say that about Trac Oliver Gawn and Brayshaw. Selfish list
This was the case for hawthorn during their 3 peat era too. Don't get the same feel from this list.

Brayshaw and Harmes illustrate this pretty well. Get bent over by Gus to give him a huge deal and midfield time, knock on effect is that harmes became disgruntled and considers leaving because he's played out of position.

Ideally both would be happy to sacrifice money / midfield time to give us the best crack at a flag. Don't expect our players to play for crumbs but all the selflessness talk of 2021 has dried up pretty quickly.

There's no chance the AFL were unaware that Geelong had worked out a deal for Bowes when they released the info about allowing salary dumps a couple of weeks ago.

Good luck to the Cats, they've legally played the system and used GC's incompetence to their advantage, but don't tell me having your CEO as last year's footy boss and your coach's brother in the job this year doesn't help.

Wasn't that difficult...

The deal ties Brayshaw, who spoke with Fremantle and Essendon in his free agency year, to Melbourne until the end of 2028. But industry sources said Brayshaw, who has been more satisfied playing at half-back than wing, could have earned easily above $800,000 over the same six-year term had he chosen to play for the Bombers, Fremantle or another club and had accepted much less than was on offer.

Literally the worst example, the bloke who single handledly ruined our midfield and demanded to be a permanent fixture there.
I knew you'd be the first to have ya nuff glasses on tbf haha no surprise at all.
Hey look, Topkent had a dumb post refuted with evidence and decided to have a crack at the poster who made him look silly. What a surprise.

Weird that Brayshaw is "the bloke who single handledly ruined our midfield" when you've been whingeing about Oliver and Petracca being selfish bastards for longer than the final 6 weeks of the season. But you do you.

True or false he gets a permanent mid gig the week he signs a deal? Now you've rumours of Harmes meshing for mid time.

Mentions Selwood being sub 500k and Hawkins around 300k which is crazy considering he's one of the best forwards in the comp. All of Geelong's stars are aging they've probably all had a decent pay at some point but are happy to settle for way less now. The rest of the list I would imagine wouldn't demand that much coin. The mind boggling thing is how on earth did they manage back at their peak with the likes of Stevie J, Ablett, Bartel, Chapman, Scarlett ect they basically had the AA team under the cap.

They did the same thing, everyone except Ablett took unders to stay and they only lost Prismall and Moloney that they wanted to keep and still brought in Ottens

Geelong keen on taking Jhye Clark at 7, excellent. Saves us from drafting him. 🤗

Cats getting pick 7 and Bowes though is great business, I wish we were smart enough to do this rather than being so determined to land Grundy.

Imagine picking up Ratugolea for **** all instead. adding Bowes instead of Grundy (given they are rough around the same cap hit) and pick 7 to go with what we receive for Jackson. Wed' be draft pick loaded up enough to move into the top 2 if we wanted to with probably an additional first round pick and pick 27 as change left over

I think that's the point of our longer contracts - go for longer to take less per year

Different players have spoken about it, even Goody took less to keep the coaching group together with the soft cap

It's probably easier for Geelong to sell the message of sustained success to the players/recruits, but they're not the only team to do it.

I get the logic, but realistically, Ratugolea has kicked 38 career goals in 59 games as a KPF, he's shit. For context, Weideman has played the same amount of games and kicked 62 goals. Bowes wants to be a tall inside mid – we have more than enough of those, and pick 7 isn't going to help us win next year's flag, or the one after that most likely.

Grundy makes us a better team than what Luke Jackson does, so you've got to look at it as an improvement still. That, and we'll still bank draft capital from Jackson to sure-up the future a bit.
