Clark Bruhn Logue and Pick 1 would be a game changing offseason IMO.

However, when we’ve been linked with all these names and have next to no draft capital that we’d realistically trade for them right now. Makes me think it could be 1 of a few things going on:
  • we believe we’ll get priority picks of some sort
  • we are thinking of trading pick 1
  • someone is leaving
  • we’re seriously thinking of using the PSD
or most likely imo
- we’re talking to everyone we could possibly want to gauge their interest in case other targets pull out

There can be only one...
Exactly, and what was he pick 12? I don't think the asking price is going to be as cheap as people think.

A lot depends on if he nominates us and is prepared to go into the PSD. I might just be a campaigner, but if I was prepared to move from club A to club B, my main concerns would be that the club I was going to was in as strong as a position as possible so I could have some success. So if I had to go into the PSD so they had a stronger list, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I mean poor Bruhn was almost in tears when GWS called his name out, surely someone did some due diligence and figured out he would be bolting ASAP. If he told GWS he wanted to stay in Victoria and they picked him anyway, then why would he feel the need for GWS to get fairly compensated?

It is why the whole CCJ thing put me off, that and shipping Tarrant off for nothing. I feel dirtier about that trade than getting ****ed by Hawthorn on Hay.

I just want to know were are we getting all this trade capital from? Maybe the AFL are going to give us 6000 points worth of extra picks? It seems fanciful though...we need Caro to call it a pipe dream to make it happen.
She is too busy waiting to see who we are going to sack this afternoon. It is Friday afternoon.

It makes sense for us, does it make sense for GWS though? If we rate Cadman, Wardlaw and Tsatas (or any other three of the likely top picks) all about the same then it would be a great move. The problem will be if GWS feel exactly the same way.
Yeah, I guess that it relies on GWS being willing to pay for the right to have their choice of the top tier.

They could have 3, 12, 19, 21, 39 in the top 40. So maybe they are more likely to want to turn two of those picks into one better one, rather than add more picks for Bruhn.

But yeah, I'm just guessing.

Was a mid at under 18’s level but hadn’t really been given much of a go there in the seniors.

Good one on one defender, courageous and neat skills. Tonnes more upside than Long imo. Only downside is he hasn’t been overly durable in his career thus far.

I like it, but I can’t see how we’d have the draft capital to make it happen. You’d expect the Saints would want a top 20 pick for him.

His injuries are more collision injuries, so i'm not concerned about that.

I see him playing half back next year, with the potential to move into the midfield in the future.

We could float 2023 R2 for a 2022 R2 + 2023 R2 from a currently strong club. eg North 2023 ~#19 for Melbourne 2022 #34 + Melbourne 2023 #34.

Then use the respective returns to do the Bruhn and Clark + Long trades. With the PSD held as a whip.

Despite their protests I suspect Saints would love to salary dump Hill so would expect them to grease our palms on that one. Something like Hill + 2023 R3 for NM 2023 R4.

Which leaves Logue who would actually require PSD #1. Can interchange Logue with Bruhn above. Basically 1 goes to PSD, 1 comes in for a R2 pick.

That's in the event all these guys actually wanted to head over.

Clarke would be awesome.
Good young player.
Logue and Clarke would be doable for pick 19 and a future second.
Clarke is contracted so we have no PSD option.
We would need to pay full price.

Clark would be an awesome get but I can’t see St Kilda letting him go, nor can I see us being able to match their asking price. He’s a jet and the Saints are devoid of any A-grade talent outside of Steele and King.

Would rather focus our efforts on Logue/Bruhn and bringing in some extra top 30 picks.

I was hoping we'd get linked to Clark. Not sure how we'd do it though but he suits that Clarkson play from half back to a tee. He's probably one they could afford to lose as well with Sinclair having such a great season and guys like Jack Bytel waiting in the wings.

I don't think we're into Hill any more, but just a guess.

Haha injuries mate. You named 6 players, two of which missed the entire season which illustrates why its important to have players on the list to cycle through. Bruhn also can play outside. I can't believe we are turning our nose up at a young, high quality player considering choosing North as his home. If he displace one of those guys because he is better then it is an even better move. Cunnington has two years, unlikely he goes on. There is room, we aren't just recruiting for next year speedy

Injuries, plus there is form also to consider. There are going to be times over the next couple of years where young players need a spell in the twos. Phillips might be that far back that he spends the first half of next year at vfl level. The likes of Powell, JHF and a couple of others might need spells at times also. We need to get games into them all, but stints in the vfl can enhance their development also. Having midfield depth allows us to be more flexible and dictate how to develop our young core. We will lose a few mids over the next few years as well. It’s likely Anderson is gone this year, Greenwood next year and Cunnington the following year.

If GWS are going to get picks for Taranto and Hopper they're going to end up with way more picks than they actually need or can use. So a later pick for Bruhn isn't going to be too attractive for them. They're far more likely to want a player or a future pick upgrade for one of them. Although as I said before, they did trade Jack Steele for a future second round draft pick. (Used on Brent Daniels)

I think they will come hard for our pick 1. Having pick 3 makes it all very doable imo.

Clark is a good play but thought he was more a mid?

He was drafted as a mid. Spent time at afl level in the midfield and down back. Has had a fair few injuries. Saints have botched the development of Clark and Coffield imo.

We're trading 1, folks, and rightly so. You should probably get used to it now.
If we land these targets and keep pick 1 Clarko is a genius.

trade pick 1, keep pick 1. Idgaf. Just as long as we start improving. Which shouldn't be too hard from the position we're currently in lol.

If we can land a couple of the players we have been linked to, I'll be stoked.
