Be lying if I said I saw a truckload of GC games. As juniors in the draft Max was always rated the superior of the twins. And both were expected to go in the top handful of picks. Max missing the 12 months of course changed some perceptions, but we got the right King.I watched a lot of GC games on Ben watch. Ben looked way better early in 2021 but Max post bye was looking like he was heading elite. Even Ben's high scoring games are quite clinical. Max plays with a real physical presence. Ben is probably a bit like Sharman in that he seems to attract the ball to him in dangerous positions without looking like he's working very hard for it. Ben doesn't get many touches but a lot end up in scores and he's above average for accuracy. Naughton and Max are more exciting to watch and to me look like they are more likely to be superstar types. Ben becoming Tom Lynch is a hardly a slight.
What a heartbreaking season 1975 was
After Rd 19 we were sitting 4th with 11 wins (44pts) and 110%
Our last 3 games were against -
Collingwood who were sitting 6th outside the top 5 with 40pts and 90%
North who were sitting 3rd on 48pts and 112%
Richmond who were sitting 5th on 40pts and 111%
So we sit a game clear of the Pies and 20% more with 3 games to go
In Rd 20 we play the Pies and lead by 4 goals at 3 quarter time in a high scoring match 111 to 87 - the Pies then kick 11.3 in the last to our 4.2 and we lose by 19pts - 156 to 137
Tigers beat 2nd place Carlton by 3pts to go 4th - we still sit in 5th place on the same pts as the Pies but 16% ahead
Rd 21 we play North at Arden and get thumped by 70pts - Tigers beat Essendon (10th) and Pies beat top place Hawks by 5 goals
We are now out of the top 5 replaced by Pies going into the last round but with 11% more - we need Pies to lose to Melbourne (9th) and us to beat the Tigers (4th) at the MCG
Pies beat Dees by 1pt and we lose to Tigers by 8 goals but kick 8.20 and have only 3 less scoring shots than the Tigers who kick 17.14
We finish 6th just out of the top 5 - 2 games behind the Pies but with 8% more
Blowing a 4 goal lead going into the last quarter against the Pies in R19 cost us a Finals berth ...... of course 16 years of drudgery in the wilderness followed
Other notable losses in 1975 were
Rd 16 Carlton where we kicked 8.27 (35 shots) to lose by 13pts
Rd 9 Collingwood where we had more scoring shots and lost by 9pts
Rd 7 Geelong where we had more scoring shots and lost by 8pts
Our goal accuracy for the year 270.362 (43%) which was the worst out of all 12 sides yet we were 4th placed for most scoring shots
Gotta love our Saints !!

You said it brother !!nothing much has changed in 46 years.
Yep the game at Moorabbin late in the year against the Pies was the killer. 4 goals up at 3/4 time. Carman in his white boots kicking 11 on Barry Lawrence.
Real 8 point game. Basically decided the last spot in the finals. It was my first year of going to the footy. Probably a portent of what was to come![]()
But he is his brother.Out of interest, would we all be as excessively confident in our support for this trade, if Ben wasn't Max's brother ?
That is so disappointing for the lad. Needs his family around him at this time. Would be emotionally shattered. Has to come back home and be with his (Saints) loving family.Confirmed ACL. How many teams have lost 2 players to an ACL in the same pre-season?
Satan has it under controlThat is so disappointing for the lad. Needs his family around him at this time. Would be emotionally shattered. Has to come back home and be with his (Saints) loving family.

Stewie Loewe better stay off the ladder for a while. We are so cursed that it is applying to potential players or family members of current players. Sheesh.

We may have pictured having a King up each end a few years back but after having such a great start to his career as a forward it would be a silly move for him to go to a club that wants to move him to the other end of the ground. So maybe a serious look at this situation.
Pretty common knowledge that we wanted to use our no.1 pick last year so we could have the opportunity to use this and next years first for a possible dip at Bing.
Well things will need to be reassessed. The club were thinking that he was more than 50/50 of asking for a trade to the Saints at year end.
I wont speculate on what this means for him, but as for our club, it may well open up options for a genuine top rated midfielder at trade time.
Personally was for Bing coming but not red hot, it was a combo of him being an identical twin of Max who has shown he can play the game at the top level. Great Saints supporter and it has the romantic aspect that all football is built around. However is he in the best interests of the list and our attempt of winning a flag? The conversation has been where to put him. We have Max up forward, we have Bing kicking 47 goals last season, but we were looking to have Bing possibly down back.
Just say Clayton Oliver came on the market and wanted to leave (this is a complete hypothetical). We would have no argument where he would slot into in the 22.
Whispers were that we had a hard on for Bing. If that was more the family link and the other reason above, more than the list, well the club (behind closed doors) has a reason and excuse to reassess.
Point is that we are primed with all our picks for this year and next year and Bing may now not be the only realistic option for us.

It makes sense to look at other options.
Makes sense for them.I keep hearing that Essendon think they have a realistic chance at him. Like as cocky as Saints supporters are about it.
