Terrible news for Ben but I really don’t think that it will make much difference to his situation. There will still be more than enough clubs wanting him next year. About the only advantage I see for the Saints is that we will know exactly how his rehab is tracking. And that’s really only a marginal advantage, any club interested in him would continue to track him very closely.

The only issue for me is that now every Max King marking contest I will have my heart in my mouth. Please don't let them have weak knees footy gods. I'm very buddhist about footy, the only certainty is disappointment.

I don’t think any young player has been buffeted about more than Max King. Since his first game against North in 2020 the lad has been crunched and double teamed every time he goes near the ball.

And the way he crashes packs in marking contests it’s clear that he’s also tough and durable. We don’t make it easy for him because we bomb the ball in rather than delivering into space.

I think both Max and Ben have just been unlucky with their injuries. And knee injuries today are not the death sentences (athletically speaking) that they were a generation ago. Advancements in medical technology and surgical skill have been significant.

Sounds like Ben’s injury may have been atraumatic (non-contact) which is a slightly larger concern than Max’s traumatic injury, because it more strongly implies there are intrinsic factors to Ben’s anatomy/conditioning that led him to the injury
I thought I read Mac Andrew injured his ankle in the same contest. Sounds like Bing may have stepped on his foot/ankle whilst launching for the ball and twisted his knee awkwardly.
How did Ming do his?

On radio they said it was non contact and just launching off the leg that buckled. It doesn't necessarily mean that there is a weakness but it could.

This is what I want to know about Coff's ACL. Anyone heard how it happened?

Same thing, no contact and the knee buckled by the sound of it.

Saw Max get clobbered at Sandy in a marking context, legs spayed knee buckled under him (the one he had done his acl on) we all held our breath and thought it was his knee again, but it as that new fangled ankle problem and his knee was fine.

Mowman was there, and I saw Max walk out of the dressing room with ice taped to his knee. Max thought he had done it as mowman said he was in the front seat crying. So it wasn't the acl and it hasn't had a problem since.

Not football but reading a book on Bodyline. At 21 Jardine torn his acl and just had a year off and started playing the next season. Cricket isn't contact but that was a century ago.

I put a comment on this story welcoming Ben do do his rehab at Moorabbin. Dunno if they will post it.

I believe it to be true that it has been posted. If really true unfortunately means that he has private medical advice that he's never going to play again
so he may as well take the extra two years with no conditions.

Zero. Sounds like someone didn’t read the full story. They’ve offered him a contract before his injury and will stand by that. I don’t think his injury will change anything that he’s offered by other clubs or what GC will request in a trade.

What a load of crap.

He just might be happy at the Suns

The more I think about it, the more I wonder why they'd only put 2 years. Is it because of his knee?
Or is there a bit of a "sign for 2 years then if you want to leave we'll help" about it?

I would think they'd want to sign him up for longer than 2.
