I saw Ben King drinking a Pina Colada at Trader Vic’s. His hair was perfect!

I saw Ben King with a Chinese menu in his hand
Walking through the streets of SoHo in the rain
He was looking for the place called Lee Ho Fooks
For to get a big dish of beef chow mein

:p

I'd like to meet his tailor.

I guess this is kind of obvious, but....

If he stays at GC - good on him. It's a tough thing to move away from home as a young bloke, and the 'vision' GC could sell him as the messiah to lead them to success (potentially with a Clarkson-type coach) might entice him. No hard feelings if that's the way it pans out.

BUT if he comes back to Victoria, and ends up somewhere other than Moorabbin, then Lethlean, Gubby, and any of their other mates in recruitment can pack their bags and vacate, it will be as big a recruiting failure as Lovett, or any other name you want to put in, we've had a few.

How will it be a recruiting failure not to give up 2 first round picks and massive amount of money for a key forward when are already strong in that.area?

Our second key forward, Marshall (which Sharman and Membrey are Not and Battle is our CHB). Will be moving back into the #1 ruck role when Ryder retires.

So there will be an opening for us to bring in a gun Key forward

Maybe Marshall goes back to 1st ruck, maybe we continue to play 2 rucks.

Not sure why Sharman can't be a 2nd tall, he's definitely shown he's capable in his limited time.

If he continues to develop like he has, having himself along with Max and Membrey will be a formidable forward set up even with just one ruck.

Do doubt we'd be able to find a spot for Ben though, that's not the issue.

But suggesting it's a failure to not pay a premium for another key forward when we have options there is ridiculous.

Sorry , i say they are.

Look like a key forward, play like a key forward, must be a key forward.

Everyone has there own opinion. No way am i calling either Membrey or Sharman Key forwards. They are third talls. Would get eaten alive having to do the job King does most weeks.

The trouble is there are way too many on here IMO that have turned this getting Ben thing into some love story and are willing to do what ever it takes to get him , Seems madness to me .
I would be chasing a quality mid if it was my choice

I don't think Membrey was the one eaten alive in 2018, and he outshone Bruce in 2019.

He's 6 foot 4 averaging more marks, contested marks and goals than Ben in his limited time.

Seems to play exactly like a genuine key forward and should have zero issues playing as a 2nd tall if he continues to go the way he has.

He will continue to put on weight each off season and shouldn't have any issues getting to a similar weight to Jack Riewoldt eventually.

That’s implying Sharman continues developing at the level you he showed, which is a 5 game sample size.

king is a genuine star of a forward.

Which is why we need to continue to play him and let him develop.

So far so good, he was also our best key forward again in our intra club.

So far nothing suggests he won't make it.

At the moment I'm more than happy to put in time and effort developing our own promising key forwards rather than getting hung up over another one and suggesting it's a failure if we don't land him.

I think it will be more of a failure if we can't develop our own.

But nothing to me says he isn't a key forward. You don't have to be 200ecm amd 100kg to play as a 2nd tall.

Disagree .

If i had to name star forwards , it would be Hawkins, Franklin etc.

Even Josh Bruce kicked more goals than either King in 2021.
Max did kick 4 more goals than Membrey and put on a couple of nice shows in 2021 though.

Not only here, the club has got love bumps and a giant upright todger for Benny boy. No swaying the cult of B.B King at the club.

A salutary warning from Benny Boy (B.B) King to the club

Am I alone in thinking he’s not worth it? Will cause more headaches than it’s worth
The whispers doing the rounds everywhere about what clubs are prepared to offer him are unbelievable in both $’s and term. EG: today was the Bomber’s turn on the rumour mill. Min 5 years plus $250k more than any other offer.
This is just going to be ridiculous, if it isn’t that already.

You don't wanna know what I heard we've offered then, pffft, 5 years, rank amateurs.....

Bombers still with the unlimited salary cap somehow. Bombers reckon they have him too.

Hmmm; where is he? [emoji848]

Well there you go if much rather develop the list we have and use the money to grab a high quality mid or a another key defender think we have enough tall forwards

Agree. We have positioned ourselves to get him with picks and cap.
If we don't get him, it will be disappointing but we launch at a 'real' need like an A grade mid.

I'm pretty sure our offer would be identical to Max's contract at $750k,
$1.5M between them.

To put that in to perspective, what would we think the other forward combos are on?
Jroo & Lynch -- 1.8M+
Hawkins & Jezza -- 1.8M+
Buddy & Reid -- 1.7M+
Kennedy & Darling -- 1.5M+
Naughton & Bruce --1.5M+

We needn't worry about Ben breaking our cap. The banker is a pro.
