Clarko approached him.

Cheers.

The footy world is a weird beast. The Pies want to screw over JDG with an unfair contract, but JDG wants to stay? Hill wanted to go to the Roos but does a u-turn after the troubles there, and we'll take him back?

If I were JDG and St Kilda in those situations I'd tell both Pies and Hill to get stuffed. And honestly, Hill would be better off. The first time I've heard him say he's happy here was a few days ago, obviously because the Roos deal turned sour. I don't think he's been that happy here since day one. The coach telling the players to bow to Hill's game. The fans constant dissapointment of him not living up to the hype and contract. The Roos might accept all that a little better.

Cheers.

Hopefully with a rejig of our assistants we might get him back on the wing and being used effectively to deliver the ball to some leading fwds.

I think you are close to the mark on this one... there are too many Melbourne teams fighting for the same players. It's pretty obvious the lifestyle in Geelong is a big drawcard and makes them a point of difference.

The Seaford concept could have worked... but not at Seaford or at Frankston oval.

A better idea would have been Mornington or Mt Eliza, our own plot of land... owned by the club.. purpose built facilities.

Players could have lived in Sorrento, Portsea... played golf at the National and surfed on their days off. Live a great lifestyle with their families.

What we are now left with is a council owned land, bank owned facilities... huge debt. Stuck in Melbourne trying somehow to be different from 8 other Melbourne based clubs.
Have to disagree.
People never went down to Seaford as it is. You’d be disenfranchising so many fans.

Cats fans for the most part live in Geelong. Saints fans, for the most part do not live in the areas you are suggesting.

Moorrabin offers the best of both worlds - players can live close the city or further down the coast, wherever they prefer.

The way it is looking DeGoey could fall to us and just him being a contested ball winner pumping the ball deep into our forward 50 is going to be awesome with Gresham , Higgins , Butler , Billings to feast on what King and Jack Hayes leave for them.

Cheers.

Of course we should take Hill back - he is contacted, makes us better and according to the whispers, we were more keen for him to stay anyway.

I also think the story that Ratts insists that everyone else changes to accommodate Hill has been blown out of proportion a bit. Part of our issue was we weren't using him when he was in a better position than someone else so we needed to be better at looking for him and giving him the ball. The comments in the post game press conference was never only give the ball to Hill, no matter where he is. And considering there has been some frustration from Hill's side about him not playing his ideal position all the time (alluded to by his manager yesterday), we obviously aren't putting Hill and his wants above everything else because if we were, he'd be playing wing 100% of the time despite his lacklustre form.

If De Goey signed that contract with that supposed clause and he was sacked by Collingwood he would surely still be able to sue for his wages if Collingwood had no valid grounds. You can sign a piece of paper tomorrow saying "I agree to be a slave to the Collingwood football club and wave all rights and agree to never kick a football again for any club in any sport" but at the end of the day a contract doesn't trump law, if it's unreasonable the contract or the clause can be ruled void by a court from what I've been told. If he signs on and they sack him without cause it could be one hell of a pay day for De Goey.

Basically said that if Collingwood dig in their heels then he will probably walk.
Would be great to land him just to get some positive rhetoric about the club.
And if he can deliver on field then even better

You’re kidding right?
if we get him it’ll be more like….

Stupid Saints so desperate for success they’ll pay a fortune for a guy who refuses to sign a contract saying he’ll behave. This ill- considered decision will blow up in their faces with no leadership to rein him in, what are they thinking…….yada yada yada

But he will want to go somewhere where he is going to play, right? And he's under contract, so much agree to the destination. This one seems pretty easy to deduce.
If you take off your “hysteria hat”, then yes it is.

At the moment there's no version of the JDG saga that doesn't make us look silly, we're just seen as desperate. One would hope that if he comes and tears it up we'll be laughing our cute butts off

I doubt he isn't choosing us because he doesn't think he's going to get a game.

He's likely going to Geelong
With a few retirees, more than likely Selwood amongst them and an aging Dangerfield, could be more chance of a game.

Can't we have a Joffaboy rating for the fence sitters and vacillators?
That’s me - I definitely fit in this category.
Able to be convinced to accept an argument either way 🙄

Craig MCrae took Collingwood from hot favourites for the spoon to a a top 4 preliminary finalist who missed out on a GF by a solitary point. People think he has a King Midas touch about him with all the unexpected winning. However, Collingwood expectations have now been readjusted and they will be expecting nothing short of a 1-6 finish and finals wins, built on wins over mid to low table teams like the Saints. When they start to cop some unexpected losses next year, and if the Pies season flounders, the narrative around McRae and the Pies will change, and the internal second guessing will resume.

I'm tipping the honeymoon period for McRae, while spectacular, has finished.
Agree 100%
There’s no doubt he’s a great coach but expect them to drop a few close ones , get some injuries , have a harder draw plus receive some closer attention.

Nice. I was just about to suggest we’d be best served backing in the group from this year. Our list has very few weaknesses and we were just unlucky against the dogs, Essendon and Port.
This why having DeGoey will be a game changer , he showed how good he can play in this years finals and just inserting him into our midfield it can have a dramatic effect.
Not saying one player can fix our problems , but having another player getting it into our forward 50 another 20 times would certainly change a game.

And really only just missing out on finals , we would be a dangerous side to play against in any final.

Be beautiful training in the middle of winter with that sea breeze coming in
Wouldn't be any colder there that Moorabbin , actually would be warmer on most occasions , around the coast it is usually warmer than inland
