Jones at $750K cheap... good grief

Hannebery at whatever squillions we gave him

There's a long list of overpaid superannuation fund seekers which we have become home to over the past 5 years.

ZERO development, zero growth from within. Finally last year Owens, Windhager... we should have done this years ago.
Where did Jones & $750k come from? Have never heard that figure attached to him before.

The post was talking about the cost pick wise not $$ wise.

If you've got an issue with overpaying players then your issue is firmly with the AFL's TPP minimum.

We have a new development coach in place give him a go, growth within is a self motivating thing per player that's not a coaches roll.

You know the second that StK pull any dodgy 'creative' stuff Geelong style, the AFL Integrity Dept will suddenly rediscover their testicles & we'll cop a whack that will make Carlton 2002 look like a slap on the wrist.

You don't need to be dodgy... just smart... Club needs to mentor players on how to set themselves up for life after football.

Moorabbin certainly needs a few more decent pubs, winebars and restaurants. Highrise metropolis now, opportunities a plenty for smart operators

.

Where did you hear Jones was on 750k?

I thought it reported he was on around 500k when we signed him

My question of why would any Saints fan be upset by someone saying we are irrelevant in the football industry.

We have not been in the finals since 2011 (2020 doesn't count) however...

We come 10th in the 2021 season and get the fifth hardest draw.

The AFL make sure we are irrelevant by favouring bigger Melbourne and love child teams with annual blockbusters, "ambassador money" so we can trade for them, let finalists have no.1's in academy players and or F/S, allow PF's from 2022 the no.1 pick, allow the Premiers to hide their SC around Geelong businesses so they can get a pick in the top ten etc etc etc
Has anyone actually got upset?

We've been irrelevant ever since 2010 except for a brief blip in 2020 (we didn't even make a prelim).

We might have potential, but we have certainly been irrelevant.

Since this new round of melts seemed spurred on by Ratugolea picking Port, it is worth noting that Sam Edmund is saying Port intend for him to play in defence.

We've gone with Cordy to fill that spot on the list - someone actually proven in that position. If our interest in Ratugolea continued after acquiring Cordy, it would have been to play forward and judging by his decision today, that doesn't seem like what he wants to do.

I have seen it somewhere, I don't think I am making it up.

You tell me where our cap is going to then? There are obviously a few extremely overpaid players.

Steele, King, Marshall, Hill are our top 4 highest paid players.

Outside the obvious, who is being overpaid?

We have plenty of cap space, hence the JDG pursuit.

You can criticise the club over a lot of things but mismanaging the cap is not one of them.

Honestly lads we’re over thinking it.

Couple of years ago we had a list that people were expecting to make finals and a general positive buzz around the place in both the media and how people perceived us.

Since then we’ve missed the finals twice and this year especially we’ve somehow managed to **** up spectacularly and miss the finals from a 8-3 start.

Obviously there isn’t a massive clamour to join us.

Make the finals next year and we’ll see blokes more willing to come. Be honest how many of you would want to come here right now.

We started 8-3 top four.

What has West Coast got to do with anything

Why do points have to do with anything?

Apart from one player who have we paid overs for?
Hill is the only one
Doogs and Paddy cheap
Butler cheap
Higgins Cheap
Jones Cheap
Crouch - nothing
Cordy nothing

We traded Long for overs and anybody who thinks we could have got anything better is either a nuffie or deluded.

I'm actually both deluded and a nuffie!!
But I'm also sick of the saints being mediocre and irrelevant.

I would think that Newness gave Carlton the intel that Acres was worth a good hard look at.

If you look at AFL tables ... Acres statistics are clearly on the upward trend.

There was an extremely tight pack of players back in 2018 ... Newnes, Dunstan, Bruce, Hickey, Acres, McCartin, Lonie, Steven which the club wanted to break apart to form their new unit of leaders
Acres new contract at Carlton is 3 years at $300K.

So that's $200k a year less that what he was getting when he was with the Saints. That tells you all you need to know about Acres "upward trend".

I hear what you are saying, but whats our package that we are offering?

Good facilities - tick
Melbourne Bayside - tick

What else is the club offering to give incentive for players to come to our club?

The club needs to become creative, like many other clubs are doing.
The Club needs to win games.

Pretty simple really. Become a contender and the incentive for players to come on board suddenly appears.

If Acres goes to Carlton and plays like he did for freo then
the saints have a serious player development issue

I find this extremely figure strange if that is the case.

Watching his beautiful kicking action in the finals really hurt

We went all in on De Goey and turned a blind eye to the deal that made sense and met the plan as put forward by Walsh.
The one thing that blows my mind, and has done with this administration is their (assumed) desire to look smarter than everyone else.
Time & time again, supporters, the media and wider AFL community have made statements and assessments of our list, game plan and execution and our club has continued to ignore it ‘because the know better’
Well we’ve played one finals campaign in the last decade. So it might be time to acknowledge that the know three fifths of **** all

Latest Barrett Sliding Doors. Have to agree... our toe-dipping, release to media first before committing is truly infuriating. Have the balls to make a decision.

IF ...

the Saints three months ago went all-in on the project to land Jordan De Goey, rather than a toe-dipping, tread carefully approach ...

THEN ...

... they would have actually stood a chance to secure him. In early July, the Pies pulled their offer. That was the time St Kilda should have doubled down.

Jones is not on 750k LMAO

Anyway I was talking about overpaying in trades. Considering 95% of the cap HAS to be spent, players cant be under paid

I wonder if Walsh's comments on radio about both Bowes and Esava are just preparing Gags for the chop?
