Isn’t that what we are doing. We are going to the draft with 3 top 30 picks after all the fs bids. The media just want us to do both. Trade in and hit the draft. Fcuk em
not just the media, but this forum as well.

I have a feeling we still have something brewing in the background. We won't be able to judge the entire period until after the draft is over.
Player wise, all that is left is the broken Whitfield, the off field issues Hunter and then your into the mid 20s failed to live up to their potential types like Weideman.

Outside of that, you are hoping we strike gold with 3 top 30 picks. Which let’s face it, are bang ****ing Average looking at the hands of a few others.

Exactly. We need something like the Bowes deal and then also trade next years first for a first this year. Have a proper go at this draft.

Typical of the media to dredge up news that is ten years old haha

Honestly they'd be hating the fact we've made some good appointments with Hayes and Walsh while clubs like Essendon, North and Hawthorn are a shet pile sandwich.

Is Hayes a good appointment because he is a modern great?

Haven’t heard a thing about other clubs feeling like he is a big miss and he didn’t come with the outside recognition Walsh did.

Worth considering.

They are still getting favoured over 10 years after they started as all the top 20 draft picks they were spoonfed by the AFL initially means they have an excess of good young players like Taranto, Hopper and Bruhn which they can trade for more top 20 draft picks which other clubs like us are unable to do

As well as all the bullshit academy picks, they've been great at paying it forward. Because they never had glaring holes in their list, they've never been reluctant to take future picks or to trade out fringe players ( or even decent players ).

They just got a next years second for Bobby Hill. They got Bobby Hill because they traded Setterfield, a 2016 Academy player.

They got 12 and 19 for Taranto. They had Taranto because they traded McCarthy to Fremantle. They got McCarthy by taking a later pick from the Tyson trade and bundling it with later picks like the Jash Bruce trade. So from their original concessions, they are still getting good picks in 2022.

They've managed to get great value from players such as Patton, Jacksch , Boyd, O'Rourke, Frost , Hampton, and Bugg.

**** GODDARD, **** LLOYD and RAPHAEL CLARKE as well.
It's quite obvious what GODDARD's definition of Culture is by the way he chooses to kick his former clubs when they're down just to enhance his media career.
GOODDARD'S is the culture of one.... Him!
I loved GODDARD at the SAINTS.. Particularly when he struggled so much at the start... People at the time wanted him out but the SAINTS persisted.... Yet he can't extend the same gratitude despite his unfortunate finish at ST KILDA .. He'd be naught if we hadn't seen the possibilities and persisted. He owes us... Not the other way round.

I hate the media, but Raph himself mentioned it in an NT News interview. Hardly the media dredging up shit lmao.

Considering everyone on here wants to see trades just for the sake of making things happen, it's pretty understandable. Trades give supporters hope.
Gags did come out very early and say our trade period would be quiet and we would be focusing on the draft. Hundreds of pages on this thread would suggest many of us forgot this little tidbit. Never mind that we’ve spent years calling for the drafting of kids and no more major top ups!

Besides De Goey, who would have cost nothing picks-wise, who should we have gone after? I say we should be pleased we’re not chasing random players for the sake of it - just to look like ‘destination club.”
Cordy was probably a good move as we needed insurance down back, that also cost us bugger all.

We all got seduced by pick 7, but it looks like the banker is holding onto the purse strings so WE don’t get ourselves into a situation where we need to salary cap dump and lose good players in the future.

We’ve got improvement to come in our three from last year, improvement from Coff and Hayes returning and hopefully improvement from Clark, and to a lesser extent Hill, being told some home truths. North haven’t even made an offer for Hill.

Can’t ever say we’ll never get injuries, but if Higgins and Gresh can stay injury free that’ll provide a big boost too.

Well he didn't come directly from another club, did he? So you're not going to get that farewell messaging you might normally see when an assistant coach jumps clubs.

But from all reports he was well regarded in his previous role so haven't heard anything to suggest he's not a good appointment.

He definitely has the explosiveness we lack in the middle. And his work ethic is top tier.
The commitment to unconditional effort is what we're missing.
Even Steele has started games without any intensity whatsoever.
The Essington game in 2021. And the bulldogs game last year. Both appalling.
And he's the best by a mile.
To me, it's the number one issue at the club.
No gameplan can be good enough to manage players who pick and choose their efforts.

I'd say it's still a good appointment. GWS's midfield was close to best in the league when he was coaching there. Players like Taranto, Coniglio and Kelly haven't really excelled since he left in 2020, they've been very good but it feels like they peaked while Lenny was their midfield coach.

He is a good appointment because of how highly everyone at GWS rated him Their mids raved about him and GWS wanted him to stay on when he left, even offering him multiple part time opportunities to keep him involved in some capacity,

If we could afford degoey we afford pick 7
By the time De Goey turned us down it was possibly too late to chase Bowes and pick 7.

Although, as we’re seeing now, the club who gets Bowes and #7 will have to give a pick back in return - which we are obviously unwilling to do considering we want our picks for the draft. So maybe that was part of it.

We would be reluctant to do it because we ant to take 'our picks'? Is our 2nd better than #7 because it's 'ours'?

Bit of a smokescreen to be honest. So what do you call getting Cordy then if no more major top ups?

Gags, Lethers and co said 2022 was our window... after 2021 was meant to be. We havent got alot to bargain with and players don't see us as a quality destination at the moment.

Gonna be hard to get to the draft and get quality with limited picks.

We've still got 5 days of trade period left.

I'll be very surprised if we don't turn 28, 32 & 47 (or use our 2023 selections) into earlier picks.
considering what the club has said. i will be shocked if the above occurs.
