I reckon it's balance, we need to attack and not always be trying to stop the opposition. We look like a side that is playing to have done the right thing n the match review, not go for a win.
I can’t remember who it was against could’ve bernFreo but we were like actively being slow with the footy to the point the crowd was losing it. IIRC once we started taking the game on we looked ok.

Same with the game against the Dees.

Happy for us to not be overly active and to go to the draft.

But if as Gags said we want to add top end talent then I fail to see why we wouldn’t be all over the Jack Bowes situation.

Just seems a no brainer, Bowes meeting clubs today suggests he is not fully decided . Would have thought Hayes would be on the phone to him seen as he was his hero.

Perhaps we are are after someone else from Gold Coast that they need to move on.

They want Long we want top end talent what am I missing ?
Que in Ben King is happening

Speaking of rugby league players we had Matt Fuller who played with the Western Reds run pre-season training for my rugby union club one year.

The hardest pre-season I've done, he put us through a pre-season that an NRL club would do, he'd been retired a few years and was still fitter than us.

Now that's a haircut you can set your watch to

I think that had something to do with the zones back then, the Hawks got given one of the best zones which used to be ours and got a lot of the great players that built their premiership teams of the 70s and 80s. We got given the Ballarat zone and got a few good players like Robbie Muir, Tony Lockett and Danny Frawley but not many other players of note.

That being said the Hawks have still been more successful than us since the zones got scrapped and the draft came in but even with the draft system we still seem to be disadvantaged compared to a lot of other more successful clubs that get given favours that we don't get.
The Hawks success of the 70s and 80s was built on the back of our old zone. Once the draft came in it all fell over for them and in 96 they nearly folded.

In a footballing sense I'm bummed to miss him because he's exactly what we needed. Explosive match winner.

The question mark on him for me was his consistency. As someone points out above, he's not a consistent performer yet. So the big contract was a risk.

I'm glad we had a crack because he was a free agent and we lost nothing. And it was fun to follow for a few days.

Predicting a quiet trade period now. Bowes comes down to who he chooses and with nearly every team after him (and pick 7) I think it's a long shot.
Make a hard play for Anderson + #7
