Wouldn’t surprise me if the clubs plan is to sell one of Clark/NWM for 2 first rounders in 12 months to balance the bottom ends lack of high end talent.

Or if we sell both off the back of good years.

It genuinely sounds like renovating your house as opposed to a knock down rebuild
Get rid of two our most talented to get more talent in
Sounds very St Kilda

He will be out of contract, unfortunately our bargaining powers will be extremely limited.

Hunter's management has told us what has been happening all year so it's not looking overly positive.

He also said there won't be any contract negotiations between Hunter and the club until much later on.

yes so what is it? It isn't a hard question.

Do we trade for gop's or do we keep our dp's and hit the draft as we did in 2021?

The post was in response to those tweets and the bi polar narrative on the forum. Some think that AFL trading and drafting is quantum mechanics and one thing can be in two places at the same time.

Pick 7 was on the table, we didn't enter negotiations until it was too late and missed on an interview with him. Source "Mitch Cleary"

Pick 7 ain't no GOP.

Don't like the sound of this at all.

Was negotiations between Hunter Clark's management and Lethers + Gags on giving him a new start all year. Even before the trade period.

Thought Lethers wasn't involved in this stuff anymore?
We should never have entertained trading him.

Frankly, both he and Coff have reasons to be traded now if you're chasing a 1stDP as neither has consistently shown that they will, they just might be able to, hence potential.

That's why you entertain it, because you don't sell but if someone else is buying, they're not integral since they're not around enough to be integral. So you can carry now Windy, Owens and Nas in 2, bleeding one and then subbing in others like the Bytel or Highmore who are currently "floating" around in will they won't they category also. Checks and balances.

We wanted 1st dp, hence Hunter +9 that North didn't want and many thought meh even though it was slightly worse but could be better if we had of sniffed elsewhere at other times. Never say never is all, it was always going to be one of them up for conversation around this time as both have underperfomed to date.

These things happen every year, no need to be panties in twists about it.

How did Hawthorn or Essendon go with Bowes? They got a meeting. Congratulations. Lots of stuff happens at meetings.

Geelong got into Bowes early because they had Hocking's intel on GC's salary cap mess. Simple.

I think we could have been into Dunkley, Taranto or Hopper a whole lot more. But it would have certainly involved trading out of the top 20 in the draft. We wanted to keep our first so it was De Goey or bust.

The problem from the PR point of view is that we don't play a game for another five months. So the narrative will set in.

And having a problem with another fan's laid-back attitude? I think we should all go and grab a coke and a smile at times.
An extremely non hysterical post there Punter.....very refreshing.

Hawthorn and Essendon entered negotiations before us, didn't have intel, got same result as St Kilda.

Only Geelong were ever getting Bowes. They were into him much earlier than any club.

Some of you won’t be happy

Meh.

The fact that only 1 club really came knocking at his door... and even then they only valued him at a 2nd + 3rd rounder says it all.

We aren't being massive idiots by not treating him like an untouchable king.

Clearly the rest of the footy world largely agree with our general sentiment- potential and talent are nice... but only half the equation.

I'm sure the club are comfortable that (unlike the jack steven situation) we wont lose anything by holding him to his contract for another year.

Even if worst case occurs- and hunter spends all of 2023 again injured and/or underperforming... then we will still get a 2nd rounder or something for him, even uncontracted.

Sheesh we got pick 30 or something for ben bloody long and pick 21 for rhys bloody stanley!

We've lost nothing and it's all upside for us.
It could well happen that clark (and the whole team) has a breakout year and clark doesn't want to leave and he's worth a HEAP more than a 2nd + 3rd rounder.

Think Geelong were nearly always in the box seat for Bowes, I read somewhere that Dangerfield gave him a lift to either the city or the airport after an Allies game, sometimes it’s just those small things that make a difference.

”The 24-year old has links to Patrick Dangerfield from his time with the Allies under-18 team and former Suns skipper Gary Ablett.”

So while Ratten & Steele were pumping him up all pre-season as our breakout/future star of 2022. The rest of the management team had already written him off and were plotting in the background to trade him to the highest bidder (if one came along).

Talent development at its finest there.

What date did pick 7 become officially part of the Bowes deal?

The answer to that is why we tried to enter the race late.

Before that Bowes was not a priority for the reasons that have been spelt out continually (we wanted to go to the draft), not to mention the $$ he was owed.

Bowes is a GOP... whether pick 7 becomes one too won't be known for a number of years.

Hunter has a skillset unlike others in our team.

You don't win a flag with 22 Dmacs, regardless of how hard he goes at it.

Hunter was going really well... then he got smashed. I don't know why that seems to be lost on some people when they're saying he hasn't reached his potential. It at least needs to be part of the conversation.

Back him in and develop him.

He shouldn't have been a trade option.

I'll let Nick Riewoldt do my arguing for me.

Thanks for that Stav

Cue 20 pages of whining about something that has a very tiny chance of happening.
Not inside info.

My personal opinion.

Focus on youth and draft is what we understand based off the last 24 hours.

1 first rounder next year.

- Clark’s agent pretty much saying he is leaving and we want him to leave.

- strong rumours on NWM being home sick

- Marshall will be 28 in 12 months.

- Gresh 26 next year.

That’s our currency.

****** if it’s as good as touted draft wise. You would imagine we won’t dip a toe in. But cannonball into it.

It would realign the list both demographic and talent wise

You missed the bit where he had his collarbone broken in the practice match and couldn't play until mid-season. That might have had a small effect on thinking.

And letting Nick Riewoldt do your arguing is like letting Leigh Fisher do your umpiring. He played for St Kilda too. I think Riewoldt is fine on match-day, but is clickbaity on the couch.

The player managers are hilarious.

Doubt he's going to say "look Hunter doesn't mind a night out let's face it so when we saw the chance at a nice juicy contract where he can potentially dial it in for a few years we jumped at it".

Is that the same Nick Riewoldt who cracked it on the basis of a report by Jon Ralph?

The same Jon Ralph who stated that he thought Bowes was owed $550k per year? (only $300k PA out)

The same $550k per year that caused Riewoldt to react with fury that STK had baulked at paying that figure? (which was only $300k PA out)

All ignoring the indisputable fact that Geelong had this bloke stitched up 6 months ago.

-----------------

The links you provided are as tenuous as your arguments. We never pulled out of the 'key trade race'. We weren't in the race to start with.

You continue to ignore the actual facts of this issue as they don't suit your story.

All relevant points that will be juicy to the moaners.

But, once again, very unlikely to happen (incl Clark).
