That’s a bit odd considering some stats certainly represent intensity in the contest.
I reckon marks inside 50, and even that strange stat of goals, and # Touches per goals represent a degree of efficiency. But these are all team stats… you seem focussed on individual stats.
But the individuals play in a team.
And stats do tell a story, of both an individual and of the team…. That’s why coaches look at them.
Mainly talking individual stats for sure. I’ve sat at a game (admittedly it was raining) and watched Tom Rockliff get 45 odd disposals and barely realised he’s playing. Pretty sure Brisbane scored about 20 points that day. I’ve looked at stats after a game and seen that Zac Dawson has one of the highest disposal efficiencies in the team that day.
Coaches would 100% look at stats but we’re talking about one stat at a time on here. In most cases those stats individually don’t tell you much at all.
Look at Champion Data though - gives some absolutely laughable results every year and it’s perhaps the most comprehensive stats in the game.
