Doesn’t Lobb still have 2 seasons with us? Any trade with a year left gets you a high second, maybe sneak into firsts (dependant on his pea shaped heart delivering a decent season)

The thing with Lobb is we all thought he was going to be fantastic when in actual fact he has been very inconsistent, promising more every now and then. He is obviously interested in what money he can get and that's ok but the club needs to get on the front foot and start looking at what they may be able to trade for him before he gets too much older. I don't think the club should try and hold him with more money because he isn't in the future for the club in my opinion.

Obviously not. The club are looking at them as stand ins in case of being struck with covid. All clubs will have extras according to the AFL.
The club are looking at Irish international players as covid stand ins? Currently there is a limit of 1 per club, and they have their own category, with the selection dates well past.

Never read that one. The Irish man we had, has returned home or is not coming. How will they get into the state!
I think you have the bull by the horns.
The AFL have waived the date.

I'm not really clear on what you are saying, but I struggle to see Irish players as being an effective strategy for covid impact mitigation.

Generally I have low expectations of them anyway, and would have rated Utan as a slim chance to debut ahead of our existing hbf options. Much prefer games into O'Driscoll, Chapman and Walker.

Agree, we have plenty of young talent to work with now and you mention Chapman, he is going to be a real beauty in many positions and Walker as well as the new draftees. Plenty of good times ahead for Freo now.

So do I. I am not sure where you got your story about us looking at Irish, Gaelic players to fill the gaps.
I have never heard it.
It has been reported the club is looking at Schlensog and Strom to fill the gaps.
And apparently the Sandover medal winner, Bailey Rogers is also being looked at.

I think you and I have crossed wires over this, that's all.

I have been saying that we cannot replace an Irish international with a local rookie (or another Irish). We have 1 rookie vacancy for Valente. That's it

I maybe wrong, but I don't think so. From what I have read.

We have to either promote a rookie list player to the main list then give a new player a rookie contract, or sign a new player to the main list. The reason being Valente was on the main list and we were at the minimum of 36 main listed players.

The Irish fella Kelm is still being looked at for 2023 Cat B rookie listing. He suffered a serious hip injury after we first made a commitment to him in Oct. Then in the final listing soon after the ND and RD it was agreed by both parties to hold off and let Kelm rehab his injury back home and look at things again in 2023. See article below:

As for further Irish players. We have no others we are interested in and Cat B needs to be sorted by that final listing directly after the RD.

The SSP and mid season draft is for those previously listed on afl list and those that nominated for draft and missed out. It is a Cat-A rookie list position. We create an extra spot on our rookie list with the 1 reduced spot on our primary list following the retirement by Valente.

That is it. 1 selection for SSP. If someone suffers a serious injury we place them on inactive list and have a selection in the mid season draft. The players we are looking at would be good temporary replacement players from the WAFL if COVID plays havoc and we struggle to field a team.

Would there be a chance that the AFL will let interstate clubs pull from their own pool/s of top up players, that have to be pre-nominated? And this is just getting these guys (along with peel who are already training with us) ready for that?

i suppose state by state pools are what they do, specifically in the scenario where a top up player is needed a day or two before a game

requires less travel and makes it easier on the top up players

What if we are in a pod or situation where top up players cannot join?

messy

If they are in the elected squad allowed by the AFL, then I would assume that they will travel with the squad.
Who knows. I would expect they would not be in the squad but available for call up to the squad if required. That way their development isn't totally shafted by being on the fringes for a significant chunk of the year.

If I could comment in the Media thread, I would say that I'm surprised, that given his goal kicking inaccuracies last year, Nat Fyfe didn't rate a mention for worst kicks.

I'd also comment that I don't understand most of Champion Data's metrics.

But since we can't comment on the Media thread, I won't comment!
