Training 2022 Training Reports

The Rhino is awesome. He genuinely seems to have a soft spot for Freo, enthusiastic and excited about our future. Actually does a lot of homework and is extremely insightful.

That plus six podcast there was a real find. You could sense his excitement to delve into all our young talent and there was a definite shift when moving to the eagles part of the pod.

It's nice having someone on our side of the fence for once.

Looks a bit more like a captain

Yes good to see the Captain back at training, before he was contracted to. Shows that he wants to get his body right, ....... and probably get a free feed at the club !!!!.

Good to see him getting to know the new youngsters around the club, and get to know their names / nicknames, which will save him using the standard, “hey you”.

Actually thought he might be doing some work for his old man.

truthfully, no idea.

fyfe seemed to bulk up in one preseason. that was wild.

The whole WC squad back in the early 90's used to.

I know they're young maturing men so it's certainly possible but its rare that its significant in 8 weeks, especially these days where bulk isn't what they need or asked to do in quick timing. Some read far too much from the photos.

Ryan Daniel's on episode 113 of the plus six podcast is required listening. First 13 minutes is regarding the Olympics. Talks about Fremantle from 13.45 minute mark to. Chapman specifically from 32:50. West Coast stuff follows from 33.30. That too is worth a listen if you are a Dockers fan.

Here is another controversial opinion

Lobb is a good footy player

He is top 3 Fwd/rucks in the league

Controversial on this board for sure but he is quality

thats not controversial that is just wrong lol.

He can play as one of the top 3 fwd/rucks in the league. He just doesn't do it every week unfortunately.

he put on like 13kg of pure muscle in one preseason.

He claimed it was from having two protein shakes a day which has all the hallmarks of someone on some kind of steroid cycle lol
He could have done with a bit of HGH, might have dodged the leg break

Mason Shaw at Port added +20kg in one off-season too during that era.

I think there was a time when a substance not specifically banned that started with an A and ended in Terol was deployed - but maybe it was the product of hard work over years suddenly producing gains when the diet was dialed in correctly...

Tasty.
though to be fair, didn’t look like Erasmus was side-stepping properly 😆

I'm in awe of how a freshly minted 18 year old can have that physique.

I'm also happy to go the record and say Erasmus will be the most physically dominant player we've ever had, behind Fyfe.

His ceiling is sky high.

Drug testing in the AFL and most sports is very bad, it catches people who are stupid but not those who are trying to wilfully cheat

It’s too expensive to ensure a large group of athletes are clean

You and I could have quite an interesting podcast on this sort of thing but suffice to say that the AFL isn't really in the business of not having specimens being superstars at the sport that makes them such money.

Nah it's correct, people just love to bash these skinny ruck types

He is pretty clearly a top 3 fwd/ruck, it is a much harder role to be a consistent forward, people need to realise this

It’s a bit of a weird position though that’s is not prioritised by all sides. I mean, if you said to me one of our players was a top 3 key forward in the comp, or a top 3 winger, or a top 3 key defender, or a top 3 small forward or inside midfielder, I’d be impressed. We’d be talking an AA selection regular then.
Several teams don’t play with a ruck forward at all or the requirements of the role are fulfilled by player primarily playing other positions, eg Tom Hawkins at Geelong doing all the forward 50 rucking.
So it’s a bit misleading to say Lobb is a top 3 forward ruck in the comp. there’s about 8 sides that he’d struggle to be Best 22 in.
