I can't see him or any other player who is yet to debut becoming a starting best 22 early season. Too many who will warrant opportunity, and at this stage Fyfe having an injury looking like the only potential gateway. And that may not eventuate.

The just on the fringe of the best 22 players (who are not established but are plausible additions) include;
Brodie, Henry, O'Driscoll, Chapman, Walker,
Frederick, Treacy, Sturt, Meek. And you could add Erasmus, Johnson and Worner.

Any others? Valente? Western?

That is a lot of players.

I'm willing to commit to naming a ' dirty dozen' I think are no chance to play round 1 barring some catastrophic run of injury:
Valente, O'Driscoll, Acres, Western, Meek, Blakely, Banfield and the five new guys.

Apologies in advance, unrelated to thread but couldn't see a relevant one.

Do we know how our NGA lads went in their game on Yesterday? Wasn't there like a 3 team round robin: Freo, West Coast and WAFL starts or something?

The galleries up on the Freo website but I honestly don't know why anyone would bother following NGA too closely now. The AFL have ruined it with the new rules. You've now got to develop players to be good enough to be drafted but not too good they are worth better than pick #40, nor speculative enough that they fall out of the main draft because someone will steal them in the PSD before you get an opportunity to Cat B list them.

**** you AFL, you useless sack of shit.

fu** you AFL, you useless sack of sh*t.

It's seems that we're committed to it regardless, so we'll need to be very crafty if we want to get a decent return on investment, which totally defeats the purpose.

FWIW we would’ve got everyone except Henry under the new rules. We would’ve been nervous about Walker but I don’t think any of the others were ever genuinely a chance of going inside 40.

Agree 100% the new rules are sh*te though. What was wrong with removing the discount and making clubs pay for players with picks close to the same value? If the Bulldogs had to trade a good player and/or their future first to get in JUH I would have thought it would be a much better system.

The PSD should’ve been canceled for good several years ago. DFA exists for its original purpose, whilst players good enough to not be a DFA should be forced into the National Draft.

If clubs could have chosen Walker before 40 and got him, they would have. He only slipped because he was protected and there was no incentive to ā€˜make us pay a big price for him’ with our picks in the 50s

Mason Shaw at Port added +20kg in one off-season too during that era.

I think there was a time when a substance not specifically banned that started with an A and ended in Terol was deployed - but maybe it was the product of hard work over years suddenly producing gains when the diet was dialed in correctly...

the afl didn’t even test for epo until 2007. Didn’t even test! That’s after Armstrong won all his tours and it was well known endurance sports were being doped with epo since the mid 90s. Mental stuff.
