List Mgmt. 2022 Young Talent Time

Are there any U-18 key forwards with the size, power and workrate of Logue?

If nothing else he serves as an example of the physical delivery required to hold down that spot and arguably more talented players behind him in the selection list know how hard they need to work to take the spot off him across the whole game.

If Treacy was able to match it with Logue for the whole game I have zero doubt he would be in the team ahead of him.

If Treacy puts 4 quarter efforts at Peel like he did for a half against Subi, he will be in the team.

He is still inconsistent which will improve with age and experience

Even if you don’t include Logue, we have Amiss, Tracy, Lobb, Kuek, Tabs and to some extent, Benning. We really don’t have room for anymore on the list,
Don't really agree.

Injuries, age profile and the practical guarantee that a couple of the above will never come on. Like I said, l if they're there at our pick I wouldn't not pick because of your concerns.

I dont think you could even develop them properly though, it's already hard enough with Benning in Peel reserves. You cant play a Peel forwardline with Amiss, Kuek, Treacy AND another KPF. Benning needs to be playing Peel next year anyway as it stands.

We'd have more KPF on our list then any other team right now, and almost certainly more under 23 then any other club. I'd want them rated significantly higher than the next best prospect on our list and have a plan to move someone to the backline (Treacy could look good down there IMO) to pick up another one

That's a tad simplistic.

Lobb and Taberner are amongst our most injury prone players and Amiss has struggled as well. Lobb also looms as our most likely best 22 departure.

Kuek and Benning are exciting prospects but it would still be an optimistic plan that schedules them in to become best 22 regulars.

You have also been at the forefront of the Jackson to Fremantle speculation which would seem to be list management madness given the likely trade price and our abundance of Key Forwards.

In defence I would happily take a Pearce replacement; that is, a KPD who can specialise against the super talls.

We have some quirks in the defensive group. Ryan plays best against the BIGS rather than the smalls but isn't typically considered a KPD. Also, Chapman looks to have the capacity to play tall or small, interceptor, rebounder or man on man. He also isn't considered a KPD. That's providing us with a lot of match up opportunity.

I think Treacy will get there and will be disappointed in our player development if he doesn't.

Hey all, not sure if this has been posted previously, but for all those wanting to look at some Colts footy (& other stuff) & some up & coming stars, please see the link below for most, if not all the games this season.
The PSA games are there also & can be watched for a small cost. I’m sure most of you know they can also be watched live.

streamer has been great for the most part this year, despite some quality issues and a few replays only having half the game, it's great to just have access to these games at all times

Yeh it’s great just to have something. I have quite a few boys who are transitioning to wafl colts from our club & it’s great to be able to watch the tape with them & offer some advice on decisions & positioning during the games when they come home.
Just one other point, Reuben Ginbey, doesn’t seem to be rating amongst professional & semi professional draft watchers. Why?
Played league footy, captain of Wesley & state 18’s squad, with good contact from AFL clubs.

Pretty sure it's just a matter of people not having watched him enough to rate him properly. It's hard to rate someone when their only games are pretty okay league games and PSA games which are never the best indicator of how good someone actually is. I like what he brings and I have him in my top 50 at the very least but the champs games will give everyone a better idea of who he is as a player.

We don't exactly have another player outside of Logue who can offer what he currently does. He destroys Treacy in total effort delivered, if there was a metric for impact and contest delivered across the entire game Logue would be one of the highest in the league for what he can deliever.

To query Treacy on effort is poor form and also dead wrong.

If you were to raise concerns about his output, his tank and maybe his temperament and effectiveness at the top level you'd have an argument. But to query his effort is ill conceived at best.

He gets his patterns & timing wrong, he gets out of position and he busts his gut in doing that which means he's not the final product yet and his output isn't great right now but his effort is top shelf.

The game he played against Geelong I was lucky to be at and he ran himself ragged and a few times found himself in the wrong spots or got there late/early. It was also true that he was sometimes in the right spots but our ball carriers overlooked him for other (sometimes worse) options.

He's ahead of schedule in my opinion and it's his effort that shines brightest right now.

I wasn't questioning his intent, I don't think Treacy is yet capable of delivering the same level of effort or work as Logue is.

I had expected Treacy to be super fit having joined in the pre-pre-season. Injury would have impacted a bit, but he wouldn't be far off.

Lets not lose sight of the fact that hes 19 (or 20), a bit lump of a lad and as mentioned missed the pre-season.

His best role is certainly on that sees him working up and back constantly as a third tall rather then a true KPF, he's going to need a huge tank to be able to sustain for 4 quarters.

Yeah good point. I'm just not thinking fitness is the major development step he needs to make. A batch of games on limited game time is what I would like to see. An opportunity to perform his role alongside the other forwards.

It has to be remembered with Logue that he had very little football as a youngster compared to other AFL footballers.

Where has this idea come from? It seems like because Logue did rowing as his summer sport at school people assume he wasn't a footy player too.

“I started off in the Parky Demons U10s and later played with the Parkerville-Darlington Junior Football Club in 2010 as part of the Hills Football Association competition.”

In U18s? I don't think any of the top U18 key forwards are similar in workrate+speed and repeat efforts to Logue; this year is more 198cm+ talls with good mobility and marks.

I presume it was more a leading question to a discussion over Logue versus Treacy but just keeping it on topic :p

Compared to the usual path AFL footballers take, Logue wasn’t committed to the game until late & wasn’t part of any development squads. Some seasons he’d play basketball, some football.

My point with that post was that he would have been given limited time forward in his junior career & that we should continue with the experiment as he will get better the more he plays there.

I don't mind how this draft is shaping up, good handful of quality tall forwards in the first round mix and enough depth in midfielders and flankers.

There's no real obvious picks for us at the moment, especially with our tendency to draft locals. Should all become a bit clearer when WA start their Champs in a couple of weeks. Hewett or Busslinger would be great, but maybe not with where our pick could be. I imagine Broadbent would interest, but he's a #1 ruck. I wouldn't be surprised if Jed Hagan ends up as MVP at the end of the Champs, maybe he climbs the board.

I'd love Keeler, he could be around at our pick - especially if Lemmey, Cadman and Scully are off the board. We could use forwards of all shapes and sizes though, so lots to play out there still.

That list is wack. No way is Scully is 14 and Ashcroft is 4. Also Busslinger ain't going top two.

I never said it hasn't worked. I'm suggesting that Logue isn't a natural forward. He has taken some good contested marks but lacks goal kicking accuracy. Even from 25 metres out with a set shot he still misses.

He's played really well in defence and I rate him highly as a defender. Not so much as a forward.

This may change over time.

Is Tabs a natural forward? After 10 years in the game he still has massive turnovers.
Tabs still misses easy shots.
All players turn the ball over, they all miss sitters.
Logue has shown all the necessary attributes to make an excellent tall 3rd tall.
Speed, strength , fearless and a good pack mark. He is a good field kick so goal accuracy will come.
I don't follow , what's not to like.
Ps welcome back man , you've been away for far to long.
