Philactides is probably the best - I also like Roberts, Stevens (although I think he needs to be a mid), Shipp, Hardeman, Lual, even versatile guys like Patton, Evans and Hastie

Hamish is right, there’s quite a few
He's been one of my favs for a while. I hope he's still on the board for our pick. Phila is the best HB and the quickest in the draft class. So much of the game is set up off HB, particularly between the arcs hence why so many clubs are chasing quick high HB's.

I’d be surprised if he isn’t there at our first, unless he kills it in the middle third of the ground during the champs

I love how much of an aggressive rebounder he is, it’s something we currently lack beyond Smith and, to an extent, Hinge

Not me, I'd be taking the best midfielder still on the table with our 1st, preferably at 185cm+ with reasonable versatility....there will still be decent rebounding defenders left on the table at our 2nd to choose from.

And that would be dependent of course on whether we try to trade in a proven top end AFL talent with those picks.
How many U18 half backs transition into top line midfielders at AFL level?

To be honest, if North keep going the way they are, it’s plausible a guy like Philactides could be there at our 2nd pick

I agree we need a bonafide mid at our first though, at this stage I’m hoping someone like Darcy Wilson could slide (probably unlikely, though) - otherwise someone like McAuliffe makes sense

I thought he might go a bit better this year though , I was excited by him last year

He’s been ok

Yep but there doesn’t appear to be too many standout mids of that type

Agree though the running half backs are more for our 2nd rounders

Could be a good draft to take an exceptional ruck

Yep I tend to agree but I’m not convinced that there are any genuine mids like last year. If there is though we should take them.

I hope not.

My eyes are on Taylor Goad on the coming weeks with the Nationals starting next week, athletic 207cm local lad coming from a basketball background should really have massive upside if taken along patiently.
Wow he’s huge. Never heard of Taylor Goad. Can you give us a rundown on him Mutineer ?

I was hoping to get to the Champs but I will be otherwise engaged.

Hopefully a lot of highlights are available after

Actually the lad playing on him today and doing a good job running off Welsh setting up plenty of opportunities for teammates is a Crows NGA lad Brandon Jackson-Martin from Port Augusta/

Welsh just got the better of him one on one and booted a goal from 30m dead in front but up until then BJM had the better of him.
Another rostrevor lad...he had a great intercol last year too

By NGA do we mean is available to take after pick 40 in his draft year? Is he tracking to be a KPP?

Philactides dominated today. Had it on a string off HB. Caddy was bloody good as well. 2 academy boys were head n shoulders above the rest.

Dominating the local U18 Rucks, very raw but very athletic, recent basketball convert, put up a 2.92 20m at the SANFL preseason testing equal best with Tyler Welsh on the day. Massive upside IMO, doubt there's a ruck in this draft with close to his potential upside?
In the future teams are going to need a >203cm ruck I reckon

So many >205cm ones coming thru next few years

200cm will be like 195m rucks eventually … non existent

I can't believe that mock draft had Philactides at 18. I reckon he goes top 10. Top 15 at absolute worst. I'd probably have him as second on my list for us*. Behind Moir. If Moir was gone at our first pick Philactides would be my call*.

*Depending on flight riskiness, since he's vic metro I'm pretty sure, but I have no idea on flight risk with him.
