The Sanders aboriginality process stinks of involvement from a few other list managers imo.

Can't remember another example anything like it

He's been in the flying boomerangs squads for years and is on a first nations scholarship at Melbourne Grammar.

Saints tried to get Hugo hall Kahn add to their nga after they found out he was eligible. Afl denied it, this is a different situation but it does stink. The purpose of the ngas is to develop eligible talent not cherry pick it.

The issue I have with it, is not having the academies, but the fact they’re ‘run’ under the clubs banner. The AFL provides the funding to clubs like GC yet they get to call it their own academy. It ain’t GC investing their own money.

You really think kids wouldn’t join if it was called AFL academy and not GC academy? Boys in Vic don’t not sign up to play footy bc they’re worried about moving interstate

Sydney sinks over $2million a year of its own money into its own academy. The previous AFL run system wasn’t working and the current success of the Northern Academies show that a club run system works better.

The point of the northern academies has never been solely about staying in your own state. The AFL are in a fight to the death for elite junior talent. In the northern states that elite talent can be signed and paid to play league, rugby and soccer well before the age of 18.

They are a vital part of being able to attract and retain elite kids so they will choose AFL so we have a competitive 20 team competition in the future.

The Northern Academies don’t compromise the draft, they broaden the pool and address the structural issues we currently have with over 60% of draftees coming from one state.

The whole idea of a certificate of aboriginality is pretty weird.

Who is the certificate awarded by? You would hope it isn't the AFL because that's just degrading.

I could have sworn I read that Reid was playing for Carlton this weekend, but apparently not. Seems like a pretty barren weekend in general, post-champs and with no CTL?

A 17 year old played for the zebras today. Can’t remember his name but was pretty good

The whole thing about only recognising his indigenous culture now sounds a bit iffy. I would love to know how they go about recognising it.

I've got no qualms about when he recognised his aboriginality. But they diluted academy access due to complaints that they weren't really academies developing players but just putting blokes on a list, so to suddenly give full academy access to a bloke who hasn't even been on a list - let alone developing within an academy would be ridiculous.

Yeah this would be the biggest stretch of the rules ever. I can’t see it happening. They might get a band one compo for McKay. Maybe late first round. That give north three firsts this year. That’s enough

What do you mean not on a list?

Sanders was first in an a North NGA squad and list in 2016.

He played for the flying Boomerangs 4 years ago and was offered a First Nations Scholarship to MGS in late 2021.

He's been using North's welfare team since he moved to Melbourne from Tassie.. I also know North's Indigenous Welfare officer has been helping him out for the last 2 years.

This is wrong.

Sanders played for the flying Boomerangs in 2021.

His scholarship to Melbourne Grammar is also a first nations scholarship.

Looking forward to the next Motlop or Rioli having to provide a certificate of aboriginality.

Fine, so you get access to him after pick 40 the same as other clubs.

If he's been apart of your academy for years, why did you have to apply to the AFL to get him added this year?

We didn't.

The application was regarding his eligibility of his aboriginality. I.e his bidding eligibility.

The wording from the media is wrong.

Sanders, McKercher, Callinan and Schoenmaker have all been in our NGA sides since u/12's.

Sanders and Callinan are both indigenous.

Don't you mean your Academy sides as distinct from NGA sides re McKercher and Schoenmakers?

Much the same as Kane McAuliffe and Ashton Moir in the Crows Academy sides..

The difference between North and all the other NGA programs, is we ran academy applications, games, camps and clinics for all Tasmanian players, not just eligible ones.

That's why it's hilarious that some supporters are now saying "Why do North get access, North have done nothing down there..."

If anything it's good Karma considering what we put in compared to some other Victorian clubs NGA involvements.

They were all still titled Next Generation Academy sides, McKercher and Schoenmakers are all on official NGA lists dating back to 2017.

Nope, exactly the same as the Adelaide set up, youngsters from our AFL zoned NGA territory and youngsters from our affiliated SANFL club zones....exactly the same as Port Adelaide.
