Same rule applies to this thread as other years, keep it on topic about the kids.
Don’t get bogged down on what other teams might do or where they will finish.

Trade speculation belongs here.

That's also where you can discuss your mock drafts or pick trades.

Any McCabe, Dear or Maginness talk belongs here.

WC would get 2,8 and North’s future 2nd. But yes they could cut us out and just deal with North and Geelong.

We can’t deal without getting a future 3rd back.
They wont though. You're forgetting North are the one's who instigated this deal, they're after another first rounder next year. Maybe Clarko is in stockpiling mode to appease the North members creaming out for more good young kids.

As for the AFL, do you really think they wont grant dispensation to us when it would clearly benefit strugglers like WC & North? Especially when they'll be the ones saying 'put it through'?

Anyway, lot of water to pass under the bridge yet.

If this gets done KL, when do you anticipate it would be? Draft night? A week before?

Port applied to be able to trade more future picks last year to help North and were knocked back. No way AFL approves.

Well obviously coming away with the best player in this draft, and one of the highest rated prospects in several years, would be huge.

Bring Harley home.

#saveHarley(fromNorth&WCE)
Still don't think it will happen but if it does - absolute best result for us. I have Reid/Walter the clear top 2,( in no order) then a bit of daylight till the next pick

I think some forget that the rule is actually there for teams to save themselves from themselves by maxing out all there draft collateral. In the NBA they call this the Stepien Rule.

Fresh this morning - an early trade option that seemed to have stalled now being spoken about again, mainly because WC are very keen on Curtin and North have locked in on Duursma & McKercher.

WC trades pick 1 to us for pick 4 & F1, then trades pick 4 & F1 to North for pick 2&tbd (possibly 15&F2
We have 1, WC 2, North 3&4.

WC get Curtin and another 1st rounder this year plus an early 2nd next year (meaning they would have picks 21&22 in 2024).
North still get their men this year plus an extra 1st next year.
We get Reid.

The AFL would allow the trade to go through as it would help the bottom two struggling clubs.
2024 draft currently seen as a deep draft on quality mids.
And I thought this would be a slow news day, daring to dream;)

Reid is versatile (and good enough) to play in any third of the field.

IMO he's worth multiple players in that regard, as I think we've got a good group of quality non-KPP's across the field, bar deep forward - though if any/all of Butler, JOS or Bennetts really develop there then we have that covered. Admittedly that's unlikely though.

Non-KPP players moving forward:

Midfidield:
Newcombe
Day
Mackenzie
Nash
Worpel
Ward
Maginess
Amon
+ Reid, MacDonald, Hustwaite (?)

Forwards:
Moore
MacDonald
Ginnivan
Reid
+ Butler (?), JOS (?), Bennetts (?)

Defenders:
CJ
Mitchell
Weddle
Hardwick
Scrimshaw
Impey
+ Amon, Hustwaite (?)

That looks like a pretty promising group on paper and most of them have years of development left. So I reckon we could afford to add to the very top of the list there by having someone with Reid's talent and versatility.

I'm dreaming I know.

I read it like this:

We get Pick 1, lose Pick 4 and future 1st.

Eagles get Pick 2, 15 and North’s F2, lose Pick 1

North get Pick 4 & our F1, lose 2, 15 and F2

Edit: Sorry, quoted wrong post. Meant to quote The Jet From Poowong

That's why it won't happen.

North are obviously in to Reid, so if WC were happy to trade Reid and were happy with 2, 15 and a f2 in return, they'd have done a deal with North already.
Being an Eagles fan which would you prefer?

a) Picks 2, 15 and a F2 from North

OR

b) Pick 4, F1 and F2* from Hawthorn

*Eagles send back a 3rd rounder

c) Hold pick 1 and just select Reid

The second one. If they do like Curtin, they could get him at 4 and have a top 6 (imo) pick next year.

Edit. Didn't see the keep Reid option. I'd keep Reid, but I'm more open minded on the idea of trading it than most Eagles fans.

Thank you

But it just doesn't seem right even if North throws in a third rounder

Hawthorn OUT - #4 2023 and #3 2024

EAGLES - OUT - #1 2023 and #40+ 2024

NORTH - IN - #4 (Haw) 2023 and #3 (Haw) 2024
