Luke Teal is 190cm with good skills. Reasonably zippy. He plays HBF at present but that skillset can translate to other areas of the ground. Importantly, he's shown a good defensive side at VFL level where he limits the impact of his opponent.

Warming to him. You just take best available and if Maric isn't available I think he's next .

Unlucky not to be drafted in 2022, inury killed his draft year. Was rated highly in 2021.

And I saw a post that says he supports the hawks…

I haven't provided any commentary on our potential midseason draft selection, but I will now. I believe we should take Ziggy Toledo or Luke Teal.

I was quite impressed when I saw Ziggy Toledo dominate a few times in the back half of last season's NAB League. He's what I'd call an "Active forward". He can play as a tall, but also play as a proper high half-forward. I like him more than Ryan Maric because I think he's better at ground level and has a better work rate. He also appears to have improved aerially. I also think Maric may be too similar to Jai Serong as naysayer said above.

Luke Teal is certainly talented enough and may be the best available. We all know we have an abundance of halfback flankers, but the performances of the likes of CJ this year may show that those stocks aren’t as secure as we may have once thought. Rookie Me Central compared Teal to Brayden Maynard and Isaac Quaynor last year, saying, "With his ability to shut down while also provide rebound, Teal could project to be like Collingwood defensive duo Brayden Maynard and Isaac Quaynor..." They also said his major weapon coming out of defence is his kicking. They said has a penetrating but precise kick that will work 9 times out of 10 to the advantage of a teammate. They also say he makes good decisions and stays composed under pressure. He is also now showing an ability to play in the midfield, as he has done for the Young Guns team.

Now if only we could pair his good skills and decision-making with CJ's athleticism and line-breaking speed... If he had not had an interrupted 2022, I think Luke Teal could have been a first-round selection. Instead, he found himself not drafted, and we now have the chance to pick him up. The more I look at Teal's profile, we may be silly not to select him if he's there...

Will Elliott and Clay Tucker are certainly talented, but Elliott has underperformed and hasn’t lived up to the hype. I like what I've seen of Tucker much more than Elliott, but I don’t think we need either of them as we have Max Ramsden. Ryan Maric is good, but I have listed above why I'm not the biggest fan of him. Jack Buller would be intriguing. He's more of a brute force, which should make him a good marking presence, but people claim he's not overly athletic. We'll see how he goes for the WAFL side in their annual state match against the SANFL representative side. Robert Hansen JNR is a 19-year-old Indigenous small forward from Subiaco. He could come into consideration, but he hasn't performed consistently at his best. Ethan Stanley is a bolter and could be at risk of being picked up by another side after a good performance for the Young Guns. However, I think he still needs to show more at Box Hill. I'd consider picking him up at the end of the year or during the supplemental period next year as a rookie.

Young Guns game 1 Teal played mid. I haven’t seen a lot of game 2 but what I did see he played mid again and he racked up a heap of the footy so he has some versatility. Unlucky not to get drafted last year due to multiple injuries. As the saying goes. “Choose him or lose him”. The boy can play.

Agree with picking the best available talent in the MSD. We want to find a player that eventually plays AFL seniors rather than picking a forward for positional need (unless it’s a free hit with a later pick) and then delist them in a couple of years time

Luke Teal strengths ……. agility, composure, decision making, consistency, kicking and strong overhead. Another thing that caught my eye is “Tested extremely well in the agility test, with his time of 8.267 seconds ranked sixth at the national AFL Draft Combine” which is pretty good for a kid close to 6’ 3.

The way we are turning it over a lot at the minute could do with more of Luke’s strengths!

Good read, is there any reason we hear no chatter about this guy given our need for KPD's

Ethan Phillips

Port Melbourne, VFL

KEY DEF, 23, 198cm, 90kg

Perhaps a little unlucky not to be handed an AFL lifeline last year, the VFL Team of the Year Full-Back has responded with a strong start to the season, with the Borough backman averaging eight marks across seven matches. With the lack of key defenders around the league, it is hard to explain why Phillips has not yet joined an AFL list, with the former Oakleigh Chargers junior seen as one of the best intercept marking options in state leagues across the country.

My gut feel is they will go down the Box hill path again this MSD and pick up the Stanley kid. From what I have seen of him he is very similar to Bramble, do we need another Bramble?
2021 MSD: I was very keen on Edwards (though all knew he was NM bound), Neuc, and Moyle.
2022 MSD: I was very keen on Ramsden, if not then Wade Derkson and then Blank as the 2nd pick.
2023 MSD: Meh… there does‘t seem an obvious choice… Teal seems Ok… but why not bring in the human highlight reel in JAYLON THORPE. Lord knows we need a marking fwd and Jaylon has been standing on backmen’s shoulders for fun for the last 8 years. How good would it be to have him do it at Hawthorn… at least for half a year. Granted he is 28 and probably not a long-term prospect, but heck he is entertaining to watch. If an obvious choice for the future is not available, give us a something to enjoy in the present. I have no idea if he is eligible but surely the AFL would make an exception for this type of feel-good story.

And he has to be better than the dude known as: P. Ass.

We're not going to take someone in the MSD just for the sake of it. Our list is relatively healthy and we'll probably need the open list spot to ensure we can take the requisite number of picks into the ND for matching a bid on McCabe.

I have nightmares about drafting players with the last name THORPE.
