Even though he is an elite kick, Schoenmaker’s lack of physicality is resulting in a big slide.

I've watched his highlights, and I have no issues at all with his talent - he looks like a gun. I get that he has midfield traits, and has been successful in that role as a junior. But he was asked directly where he would like/expect to play at AFL level and he said defence. Not "defence first up and then we'll see", not "wherever the club wants to play me". He just said defence. Hamish spoke about him as a defender. And when asked about the possibility of him being a midfielder, Hamish seemed to shrug it off. His comments sounded to me like he was saying "the time spent playing midfield as a junior will help round out his game" but that the club still saw him as a long-term defender. One who gets the ground ball well and has a great kick, sure, but a defender nonetheless.
I hope he does end up as a midfielder - we need one a lot more than a KPD. But it somehow feels like every year we take a talented player and then hope they will successfully switch positions. Rachele is a talented small forward, maybe he can move into the midfield one day. Rankine, ditto. Thilthorpe a talented ruck, perhaps he can be a KPF? For once I'd like to see us say "here is a dominant midfielder who plays in the midfield, we are expecting him to be a midfielder at AFL level."
My main concern is that we are spending all our best picks upgrading positions we've already filled with decent (or better than decent) youth (forward, defence), while neglecting positions of significant need (mid, ruck).
Haven’t got us in same stratosphere as them on list talentI'm more concerned with Gold Coast
SOS slammed his laptop shut.Port trade a F4 for 48 and Saints trade a F3 for 50 lol
How is that trade even allowed? What a joke.Of course North could pick for needs they had 5 effing first rounders
That's my point. Not sure how we compete for a flag around 2025-2027.Haven’t got us in same stratosphere as them on list talent
They are the giants of 2015-2018
Be very surprised if they aren’t top 4 from 2025 onwards
I'm shocked. Well, not shocked.Even though he is an elite kick, Schoenmaker’s lack of physicality is resulting in a big slide.
They really should have had the new AFL exec last night announcing their picks for her hard work gifting them more picks as a thank you...How is that trade even allowed? What a joke.
