Almost as bad as my husband, when he first moved here from Sydney in the late 90s, pronouncing Thebarton as TheBarton. Learned and adapted though.Liam Fawcett

North have rights to match from here, right?Hope Jack Callinan gets picked up, he deserves a shot.

You only need to watch any highlights package of Curtin to understand he will absolutely be a midfielder at AFL level. Isn’t just a defender that goes in there on occasion, has played big matches in the midfield already. Can get himself out of contests with elite agility and skills and can read ruck taps very well, that’s not the trait of someone stuck as a defender. May not spend 100% of the time there as he develops in his first season, but have no doubt will spend some time in there year one and ramp that up year 2. That he was dominant at CHB this year just shows how ridiculously talented he is and why he was rated a top 5 talent in this draft.

He said tonight on 5AA he wants to be a midfielder but is more than happy to play wherever the coach wants him. Maybe as it seems we were johnny come lately's with him and interviewing him etc, they might have a far better idea of just what he is capable of after this preseason so everything now is premature in terms of his true best position.I've watched his highlights, and I have no issues at all with his talent - he looks like a gun. I get that he has midfield traits, and has been successful in that role as a junior. But he was asked directly where he would like/expect to play at AFL level and he said defence. Not "defence first up and then we'll see", not "wherever the club wants to play me". He just said defence. Hamish spoke about him as a defender. And when asked about the possibility of him being a midfielder, Hamish seemed to shrug it off. His comments sounded to me like he was saying "the time spent playing midfield as a junior will help round out his game" but that the club still saw him as a long-term defender. One who gets the ground ball well and has a great kick, sure, but a defender nonetheless.
I hope he does end up as a midfielder - we need one a lot more than a KPD. But it somehow feels like every year we take a talented player and then hope they will successfully switch positions. Rachele is a talented small forward, maybe he can move into the midfield one day. Rankine, ditto. Thilthorpe a talented ruck, perhaps he can be a KPF? For once I'd like to see us say "here is a dominant midfielder who plays in the midfield, we are expecting him to be a midfielder at AFL level."
My main concern is that we are spending all our best picks upgrading positions we've already filled with decent (or better) youth (forward, defence), while neglecting positions of significant need (mid, ruck).
