Freo always going to be twice. But Tigers and Blues is strange, surely GWS or Hawks twice.

The way it supposedly works, you get a bit of a spread of top six, middle six and bottom six, weighted according to where you finished. We got one top six, two middle six and three bottom six.

You don’t get doubles against everyone that finished at your end of the ladder.

Yeah that's the big issue with it. We need a good start to build momentum but this fixture the start looks tough. Looking at it we could very well be 1-7. Basically playing the best sides straight up except round 1 against North. Hard to see us beating any of those sides outside round 1

So, according to you we’ll be dismembered by the seven sides you’ve identified, and Simmo will get the lemon and sarse by round 8. I think you’ll find our age demographic still places us comfortably in the mature category. Safe to say it looks like being a long year for you given your take on our chances in the early fixtures. If we have a fully fit contingent we can push all the sides you’ve identified……I’m not saying we’ll put them to the sword, but we should be more than competitive.

From the top 6, Fremantle get stitched up with the equal hardest group whilst Collingwood get the easiest run

From the middle 6, Port get slammed with a run commensurate with a top 6 side after they finished 11th. Carlton and St Kilda get looked after with a run similar to the bottom 6

Of the bottom 6, GWS have a slightly harder run of it but the rest are thereabouts. We have no grounds to complain

Kind of a shame that Freo and Port are the two most harshly treated.

Yeah that's not how the AFL systems works. Simmo needs improvement and more wins this season or his done. Just how the AFL washing machine works. Simmo isn't a new coach so doesn't have the credits anymore.

West Coast isn't a club that will sack a coach simply due to the W/L ratio, especially when they've very publicly stated that the club is rebuilding the list.

Simmo will be safe if we only win 1 game for the year, IMO, provided % is better, games into kids, clear change in game plan, etc, and so he should be.

He's been given the keys to the rebuild. Sacking him at round 8 if we're 1-7 would be ludicrous and contrary to all the messaging the club has been putting out.

Did you not think that was addressed by the end of the year with Jones and Yeo playing in defence and players given a clear directive to move the ball on quickly?

Followed up by the recruitment of a quick running defender in Hunt and prioritizing speed in the draft?

We’ll probably just ignore all that though and play the same style we played in 2020.

I mean, it's not as if Simmo already said they trained for a clear change in gameplan that had to be scrapped in the first half of the season due to covid/LTI's. Was an obvious change once the side got some players back and settled in the second half ofnthe season.

My biggest concern for the year has nothing to do with the fixture.
It’s the way we move the ball, the constant slow, sideways, and backwards ball movement was implemented by Simmo and now has to be reversed, I’m not convinced he’s the man for the job.
I ******* hate watching it! It’s not football, may as well be watching soccer, have a go FFS!

I think there is still room for this approach provides it is an option in our playbook and not simply what we do every. time. we. have. the. ball. The switch is designed to open up the field so there is a lot of value in that approach but we need to mix up our approach by working angles, running, etc. and not always switching and/or kicking long down the boundary.

Think best case scenario is 3-5 wins. The club accepted where we are. It will take 3-5 years to get the draftees to 80 games and they regularly can help WC on a weekly basis. IMO this season is more important to get games into the younger generation whilst not depleting our best 22 of too much experience. This is unfortunately a multi year rebuild

They finished third last, lost a bunch of first-choice midfielders and brought in one forward pocket and hit the draft. And we play them at Optus.

Yeah, may as well write that one off as a certain loss I guess.

Oh that’s nice i think so i have a captain cook at who we play home and who we play away and see that out of the 8 teams i think will make the finals this year, we play 6 of them interstate. With two against the dockers at home.

There’s a 6-6-6 rule so you have to play players in the forward line. We played Yeo and Jones back to generate run.

Yeo never played in the middle in 2022, so I don’t know where that poor form comes from.

It’s alright to be critical but if the things you’re criticising could have at least some passing resemblance to what actually transpired, that’d be great.

Yeo coming off however long out with op and never being a bloke with a natural big tank was never starting back in the midfield and given his age and injury issues probably shouldnt play through the midfield except maybe at the end of quarters. Nothing to do with form everything to do with match fitness and player managemrnt.

I figure the ideal mix between home and away games changes when you're rebuilding compared to contending. We're struggling to beat any team, so it's better for us to play weak teams at home, as we need every advantage to beat them. We're likely to lose to the strong teams whether we play them home or away, so might as well play them away.

When contending, you want the opposite. Play the weak ones away as you're banking those wins regardless. Play the other contenders at home which should help you get the win.

Both 2015 and 2018 felt like they had ideal draws in that way. We played a lot of contenders at home and managed to get the win, which was crucial to a top 2 finish.
