Hoping for Kemp and a couple of others to get into this.

Don't mind that side Wick, but I want to see a Boyd

He'll get plenty of game time. He may even end '23 firmly entrenched in the B22 and not just a role player who gets a dozen or so games.

Suspect he eventually displaces Newman's spot as CJMB puts but as for now the steady vet play is ahead of him.

Pretty hard to pick a team, a lot of players I would want in the team but can't fit in. Injuries will give them opportunities though.

Midfield is strong. Backline is really strong. Really want to add Boyd and Newman into that side but can't.

Question marks over the forward line but it's capable of getting the job done. Has depth but the top end quality isn't high over the board as it is in the midfield and backline however that can change with young players improving and further recruitment.

Was talk of a 5 man bench, that would see most sides play two rucks. That's a really strong advantage for us IMO as Silvagni is a far better forward playing the 4th tall who doesn't ruck role.

My team has the same personnel, except have the two rucks, with JSOS squeezed to sub. Hate leaving a few of them out, basically the ones you have as “emergencies”.

Having another stab, so hard to settle on a "perfect" setup.

Newman, Weiters, Boyd
Saad, Young, McGovern
Docherty, Hewett, Acres
Pittonet, Cripps, Walsh
Cuningham, Curnow, JSOS
Durdin, McKay, Motlop
I/C: Williams, Kennedy, Cerra, Martin
Sub: Kemp

Considerations:
- Marchbank vs. McGovern - opted for the bloke who has played (relatively) more football, and offers precision kicking out of the backline.
- Marchbank vs. Boyd - opted for another small for a more accountable role on the players that always trouble us...who also kicks lasers.
- Cottrell vs. Docherty - opted for the player with more positional flexibility, with Doc able to rotate back and on-ball.
- O'Brien vs. Acres - opted for the mature body at the cost of better "good" disposal.
- De Koning vs. Pittonet - opted for the consistency of Pittonet over the flashes of brilliance from TDK.
- De Koning vs. Silvagni - opted for the consistency and flexibility of JSOS, until TDK learns/shows more forward craft.
- Fisher vs. Cuningham - opted for the player who I think has the higher ceiling, and more scope to win the contested ball.
- Owies vs. Durdin/Motlop - opted for the players with more upside and hurt factor.
- Kemp as sub isn't something I want to see too frequently, but of the players I left out he provides the most flexibility as a plug-and-play utility.

Leaves the ressies made up of:

Plowman, Durdin, [VFL]
[VFL], Marchbank, Akuei
Cottrell, Curnow, O'Brien
Mirkov, Setterfield*, Carroll
Fisher, Kemp, Honey
Owies, TDK, Fogarty
I/C: Dow*, Philp, [Pick 10], [Pick 29]

Considerations:
- Think both Kemp and Akuei would be suited to the forward line, but feel one of them needs to play back for the structure. Would rather put Kemp in the position of most value as the player with the higher ceiling, when he's not used in the seniors/as sub.
- Believe we have some solid smaller defensive options in our VFL squad (Radovanovic, Cincotta) to fill out that line.
- Asterisk on Dow and Setters until we know if they're sticking around.
- Interchange to be filled out with draftees at ~10 and ~29, subject to further trading.

Nice setup BB, 3 different players to mine.

Opted for TDK, Fisher, LOB over Newman, Kemp and Cunners.

Will come down who we play in the GF - may need the likes of TDK and slippery Fish against the cats…😛

On second thoughts the experience of Newman would be handy so I’ll bring him in and relegate LOB!

Like this.
As Arrow suggested, like Boyd for Newman. Happy for him to show that his weapons outweigh what the steady vet offers in the first instance.
Need 80+ goals from the mix of our non-KPFs
Need Cripps, Hewett & Kennedy to maul opposition mids, need Walsh, Cerra to provide some outside dash. Think we are a little light on for this but hoping it can come from the back half in Saad, Doc & a fit Williams.
Need the Pitto & TDK ruck combo to blend & compliment - Think huge improvement can come from this.
Like Carroll, Honey, Kemp, a returning Cunners to put pressure on those that need to improve or be more consistent
Carroll pressuring Fisher, Honey for Martin, Kemp for JSOS / McGovern, Cunners on Acres etc.
Still think our biggest improvement will come from an ability to put a consistent 22 on the park each week.

Our season's hopes will come down to injuries and how well Dow/Philp/Carroll/Fisher/draftees/etc provide depth and pressure for midfield spots, given the clouds over Kennedy, Hewett and (?)Walsh

Hard to pick a 22 this year :O

FB: McGovern Young Williams
HB: Docherty Weitering Saad
C: LOB Cripps Acres
HF: Walsh Curnow Silvagni
FF: Durdin McKay Motlop
FOL: Pittonet Hewett Cerra
INT: Kennedy, Fisher, Newman, Martin
SUB: Cottrell
EMG: TDK, Marchbank, Owies, Boyd

I'm surprised at the lack of Kemp in the best 22
He's too talented to be missing from our best 22.

I'm expecting Kemp to force his way into our best 22 and stay there.
He has had enough time to recover from his injuries and in 2023 is ready to shine :D

At this very early stage:
McGovern Young Williams
Saad Weitering Docherty
Walsh Cripps Cottrell
Martin McKay Fisher
Motlop Curnow Silvagni
TDK Hewett Cerra
Kennedy Kemp Durdin Setterfield
Sub: Carroll
EMG: Newman Honey LOB
Updated post trade week:

McGovern Young Williams
Saad Weitering Docherty
Acres Cripps Cottrell
Martin McKay Walsh
Silvagni Curnow Motlop
TDK Hewett Cerra
Kennedy Fisher Durdin Kemp
Sub: Carroll
EMG: Newman Honey Dow

B: *1 Young *2
HB: Docherty Weitering Saad
C: Acres Cripps Cerra
HF: *3 Curnow Fisher
F: Motlop McKay Durdin
R: Pittonet Hewett Walsh

Int: DeKoning Kennedy *4 *5

*1 - Boyd or Williams
*2 - McGovern, Marchbank, Newman or Kemp.
*3 - Martin, Silvagni, Carroll or Honey.
*4 - Best team fit, probably extra defender from whoever misses from *1 and *2.
*5 - Best team fit, probably extra mid from Carroll, Cottrell, Dow or O'Brien.

Very confident those 17 named in the team will be in the best 22.
Very happy to play either Williams or Boyd as the dasher defender.
Very happy to play any of the 3rd tall defenders.
Happy enough with the options for mid forward.
Stacks of left over options for the last 2(or 3) bench spots depending on needs and form from week to week.

Bloody exciting squad. We've finally got our ducks in a row after a lot of hard work since the Club wide reset after the 2015 season. FULL Club resets are bloody hard. But here we are. Ready to compete with the upper end of the ladder teams for the next 6 years.

Still believe Boyd will be in our best 22, especially a side needing speed and foot skills

And probably our number 1 option as a lockdown small defender
Yes Boyd looks 22..fierce focused, likes his work, just great to see, very old school Carlton like,if you were looking at Boyd in the 80,s line up he would be seamless.Love it.

Just on Mc Govern i am presuming his long term hammy was resolved via his bout of surgery and would quite possibly place him firmly in defense long term in 2023...he did have some very good games in his apperances and did have some match changing moments for Carlton,i think Mbank has had a long tough road and may well be less sustainable than Gov in 2023......anyway time will tell

If we have 5 on the bench the sub will be gone-(Thank Christ)

How do we line up the on the wings? Acres has 1x spot locked in. With the other do we go LOB, Cottrell or have a hybrid in Cerra or Walsh?
