Interested in Warner's performance with additional attention from the opposition. It might be less eye catching but have a greater impact on our team.
Have said it before but teams would be daft to continue tagging Warner. He is not the one you need to effect if you want to effect our midfield.

I suspect if Gulden has something of a breakout year in the midfield this year, teams will turn their targets towards him. But he's not the one you need to effect if you want to effect our midfield either.

Either way, if one of the above is being restricted, it means there's a good chance the other is running riot. Win/win for us, and it's why I just can't help but feel quietly confident about how our midfield will go this year. Soooo many weapons.

Agreed. The only concern is versing big & mature midfields like Cats, Dees, Lions but I think we could use our smarts to get the ball on the outside in those situations to expose them with quick ball movement. Bottom line is we have variety in attack at all parts of the ground.

Gulden and Parker have proven experience forward, we know Warner can score if needed albeit most of his goals come from midfield. Rowy and Mills though? Not really.

Mills would be fine playing minutes forward Where he would be a legit threat. Rowy is the only one who to date has not shown an aptitude to play there or down back for that matter. He is a pure mid, much like JPK was.

Will be interested to see how Rowell looks. Last season he was bulky and specialised in contested ball..iirc there were some games where all his possessions were contested. Two bad injuries deprived this kid of a lot of footy. For his sake I hope he returns to something like what it looked like he could be.

This is a very generous post and I whole heartedly agree.
I hope he shows his potential.

In April.

Do they need to?

Surely we have enough players who can play in and around the forward line that we can just play Mills & Rowbottom in the midfield full-time? They're our two most valuable mids and we need at least one of them at every centre bounce otherwise we are well and truly Noah's Arked.

We have three guys in our current best 22 who CAN play the defensive/accountable role - Mills, Parker, Rowbottom. They can also play more attacking. On the fringe I would say that Sheldrick (in particular) can also play the defensive role, in and under too. Warner is the guy you want to get the ball to, though he can tackle as well. Roberts seems an allrounder. Plus we have the visitors - Heeney, Papley, McInerney maybe others as time goes by. It's a very well balanced group.
Of the core group Parker is easily the most dangerous forward being a good mark and crumber and deadly shot.
Warner, Mills and Rowy all kick the occasional goal. That's enough.
