Round 1 Pick 1, Panthers select :

CJ Stroud, QB, Ohio State

USATSI_19707581_168392742_lowres.jpg

After trading the farm for pick 1 the Panthers would be silly to take anyone but the QB with the highest floor, I believe that to be Stroud. He might not be the flashiest on tape but he makes solid decisions and his accuracy when protected is elite, displaying an ability to make all the throws required to be a top tier QB in the NFL. The Panthers have invested in the offensive line in the draft and free agency the past few years so with a more than decent oline and Frank Reich as HC and play caller he will have every chance to succeed if the Panthers can add a few more weapons be it by the draft or via trade.

Seemingly the only worry with Stroud being that statistically he hasn't been very good when under pressure throughout his college career, however ,in the college playoff game against a quality Georgia defence a few months ago he showed hes more than capable of making throws and plays when under pressure, in the pocket or outside. He wont have anywhere near the weapons he got to throw to with OSU with the Panthers but he displayed the ability to make tight window throws constantly so concerns over such are greatly exaggerated imo.

The ceiling might not be as high as others but its high enough to be a top 7-10ish NFL QB and I highly doubt he fails.

Round 1, Pick 2, Houston Texans select:

Bryce Young, QB, Alabama
MYQPQYGQRZATTHW2XHNLHR2LCM.jpg

Truth be told, Stroud would be my pick too, but A11dAtP0w3R is a little bitch who changes his mind at the last minute. I would also be tempted to trade this pick for a boatload of other picks if the opportunity came along, but it would have to be a very enticing offer all the same.

Being things are as they are, my pick for the Texans would have to be Young. He's the most dangerous QB in the draft, and he's the closest thing to a Mahomes in this class. He doesn't have as a big a arm as Stroud, Levis or Richardson, but still got a good percentage of his yardage last season through deep balls, so he can get the job done when required. Where he gets the others is his head. Vision, awareness, pocket presence, he knows when to tuck and run, knows when to improvise, know when to get rid of it. He's a genuine playmaker one way or another who doesn't make mistakes, and is cool under pressure.

The elephant in the room is his size, no doubt, and its almost enough to have me not draft him, but the rewards are far greater than the risks in this case. Every other aspect of his game is NFL playoff calibre.

TRADE ALERT

The Arizona Cardinals trade pick 3 to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for picks 7 and 100 in the 2023 draft.

Chewy316 is now on the clock

Are we allowed to veto trades? That's horrendous

Arizona's GM would have the shortest tenure in history if that one was pulled off.

Just roll with it and pretend the Raiders gave up next year's first as well. (Could probably even milk more out of them than that considering they are jumping the Colts)

WITH THE 3RD OVERALL SELECTION THE MIGHTY INDIANAPOLIS COLTS SELECT:

r1140262_1296x518_5-2.jpeg

ANTHONY RICHARDSON

Anthony Richardson is a redshirt sophomore QB prospect who is listed at 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds. He entered the year with a lot of momentum coming off of a 2021 season where he played sparingly but showcased the athletic tools and arm talent to be one of the best QB prospects in the draft. Richardson’s first season as the starter (2022) was full of both high-level moments and questionable decision-making, finishing the season with a stat line of 2,549 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, nine interceptions, and another nine rushing touchdowns. Richardson profiles as a dual-threat quarterback with great arm strength and the athleticism to make plays with his legs, both on designed QB runs and out of structure when protection breaks down. Overall Richardson is a QB prospect who has all of the physical tools that are coveted in a modern NFL dual-threat quarterback to be a franchise quarterback, but his ability to consistently execute the details of the game reading coverages and throwing accurate passes will determine how high his ceiling can become as a QB.

The Colts will take there lumps with him in year 1 and can scheme around his current flaws to get him up to NFL speed. he will be boom or bust I dont think there is any middle ground with him top 10 QB in the league or doesn't even see a second contract.

With the 4th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Las Vegas Raiders select Will Anderson Jr, defensive end, Alabama.

a8b6f66be4ddc43ab83ed4a910b271c7

Many would have thought a trade up by the Raiders here would be to select a QB, though the signing of Jimmy Garoppolo somewhat alleviates the need in the immediate. The Raiders initially traded up to pick 3, but a few trade offers came in late allowing the Raiders to trade down to pick 4 and cash in on the run on QBs, adding Kenny Moore in a trade down with the Colts.

The Raiders have one of the most porous defences in football, and with Chandler Jones on the backend of his career, it is imperative that the Raiders boost their pass rush to get after Pat Mahomes and Justin Herbert. Will Anderson is the best overall player in this draft class, and given the minimal cost to trade up in combination with the addition of Moore, the value was there to execute such a move and add a blue chip prospect (Anderson) to the Raiders defence to pair with Maxx Crosby on the defensive line.

gaskin is now on the clock.

With the 5th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks select

20221203_ajw_fb_seccg_2198.jpg

Jalen Carter - DT - University of Georgia.

The Seahawks defence have holes everywhere and need some serious help after leaking like crazy last season. The only position on defence anyone can say doesn't really need reinforcements other than 1 or 2 depth players that can be picked up late or as UDFA is at corner. RBs were able to carve us up through the middle almost at will and Carter is great against the run. He is a good finisher when he gets into the backfield but he doesn't get their often enough. Where his strength lies is creating gaps for the LBs to run through. Carter may not put up big sack numbers but what he is good at is getting pressure on QBs that like to stand in the pocket. The pocket passer may be disappearing but if the Seahawks can add another stud in the middle of the line, Seattle's defensive front are going to be bloody tough to play against.

The only real concern is his size as he wasn't as productive against the bigger O-Linemen at the college level. He'll probably need to put on a bit of size to really match it with the big boys. The talk about his being unfit may well be true to an extent. But, what a lot of these 'experts' aren't taking into account is that he missed a chunk of the season through injury and was still playing not at 100% in the playoffs. His pro-day probably sees him fall down a few draft boards but put yourself in his shoes over the last couple of months and see how you would be holding up mentally.

Anyone that has participated in these mocks over the years will not find this pick surprising in the least. I love my Georgia boys (there maybe another one or two coming up later) and I rate them higher than others. However, Carter is arguably the best player in this draft pool. Personal issues aside (I think most are blown way out of proportion or complete bullshit spouted by people who have NFI), he is the best fit for the Seahawks at this position. Seattle also have a history of not caring about personal issues.

In the actual draft, if somehow both Carter and Anderson are on the board I think we might take Anderson. If it were up to me I would take Carter. Unlike other conferences, the NFC West doesn't have the most mobile QBs (other than Kyler Murray) so edge pressure is not as vital. Free Agency DT pickup Jarran Reed will help but I don't think he has been signed as a starter- or at least a long term starter. This is also a deeper class for pass rushers and there should be some good players still on the board at pick 20, 37, or 52. Word out of the combine is that there is also a lot of mutual love between Pete Carroll and Anthony Richardson but I don't think John Schneider would be stupid enough to take Richardson here (if still on the board) with Drew Lock signing a new contract over the last couple of days.

drd23 and the Lions are on the clock

With the 6th pick, the Detroit Lions select Tyree Wilson, EDGE, Texas Tech

EB_FBvsUT_200926_450_1_.jpg

While the Lions are a team on the rise and big favourites to win their division in 2023, the team have been open about considering upgrading any position. I doubt they go with the 4th QB of the draft, so think trying to improve what was statistically one of the league's worst defenses last year makes sense. Tyree Wilson is the pick here as the consensus #2 edge rush prospect in the draft for a team that has repeatedly emphasised wanting to build through the trenches. Wilson is a large man at 6'6" 271lbs with great length (7'4" wingspan, which is just 1" shorter than NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo) and good movement skills, which translated to some good production in his final season in college with 50 pressures for the year. Wilson would give the Lions a potential bookend to develop opposite Aiden Hutchinson with the versatility to move inside on obvious passing downs.

Dixie Flatline and the Cards back OTC

With pick 7 in the 2023 mock draft, the Arizona Cardinals select Christian Gonzalez, CB, Oregon

Christian%20Gonzalez%20Oregon%20Getty%20030223.jpg

Gonzalez is arguably the top cover corner available in the 2023 draft, and the Cardinals are pleased to take him here to bolster a secondary that struggled in 2022 (the Cardinals allowed almost 4,000 passing yards on defence in 2022, and gave up 29 passing touchdowns to rank last in pass defence on their way to a 4-13 record and last place in the NFC West, which resulted in Kliff Kingsbury getting fired).

By himself, Gonzalez won't fix the pass defence, but if he plays to his strengths in his rookie season, he'll stiffen the Cardinals defence considerably.

Gonzalez combines physical and athletic traits like few others on the draft board at this position. He has the technique to play press-man coverage and the physicality to jam receivers at the point of release.

He'll need some work to improve his capacity to challenge receivers at the catch point, and he hasn't had the best success intercepting opposing quarterbacks, but he is the top player on the Cardinals' board at this point in the draft.

Inspecta Gadget on the clock with the Atlanta Falcons

With the 8th pick, the Atlanta Falcons select Devon Witherspoon, CB, Illinois

w3ILPpPt_400x400.jpg

With the top D-linemen off the board, it came down to either a DB or an OT/G, decided to get arguably the best CB in the draft. Him and Gonzalez are 1a and 1b in my opinion, just slightly different in levels of athleticism and body shape, although Atlanta has shown a preference for the smaller DB's. Has enough speed to play on the outside or in the slot, shows great anticipation in route running and QB play, and excels in man coverage. Forms a formidable DB backfield with AJ Terrell and Jessie Bates for years to come

Chicago Bears with 9th pick select Paris Johnson Jr OT Ohio State

PJ.jpg

This pick is all about putting Fields in the best scenario for him to succeed and for that to happen Fields needs some pass protection if his going to take the next step so the bears go with best O-lineman in draft. Others in consideration were Luke Van Ness. Just think OL quality won't be as good in 2nd as DL will be another reason to take an Oline in the 1st.

With Pick 11 Tennessee Titans select Jaxon Smith-Njiba, WR, Ohio State

For the 2nd year in a row Tennessee add a receiver in the 1dt round. After the AJ Brown trade the Titans receiving core is one of the worst in the league.

Smith-Njiba had phenomenal tape last year and to avoid injury risks had minimal impact this year, but still - his potential is of the charts.

Pairign Smith-Njiba with Trey Burks gives an up and coming threat in the passing game.

Pick 12- Houston selects:

Quinten Johnston, WR, TCU

Quentin_Johnston_cV4X6.jpg

The Texans have spent free agent $$$ on every position group except QB, and have improved all those groups. The trade of Cooks basically puts them back at square one at best, but actuality is they're worse off. Woods and Brown, are complimentary pieces. Collins hasn't set the world alight. Metchie an unknown at this point how he comes back. This pick must be a receiver.

Now I will be the first to admit, Johnston is not usually the type of Wide Receiver I'd be drafting at pick 12, but there is no ceiling on what he could do. I actually see a lot of similarities to Christian Watson in his skill-set. But lets be real here, Johnston is not making many catches over the middle in the NFL without a change in mindset. And he has a few too many drops on his resume'. But what he also has is all the physical skills to be a dominant player in the NFL. Wow all you like campaigners, there's not a better pick for the Texans here...

Broderick Jones, OT, Georgia

6404d75384758.image.jpg

Despite the Jets spending a first round draft pick on a left tackle just three years ago, the Jets find themselves still in a position of having questions over their offensive line. Becton has a promising rookie season but since then, has barely played thanks to a significant knee injury. The Jets added veteran left tackle Duane Brown after Becton had to be placed on the injured reserve early in the 2022 season. However, Brown turns 38 during the 2023 season and it would be difficult to rely on him for another season.

Broderick Jones was a two-sport athlete, having been an excellent basketball player as well as starring as an offensive tackle coming out of high school. Jones came into the college program as a five-star recruit and rated as a top-three offensive tackle in the nation. The athleticism that he showed on the basketball court has translated to the gridiron, with Jones starting 19 games at left tackle for the national championship-winning Georgia Bulldogs. He's still a little raw, but the Jets can afford to be a little patient with him, given that Brown is under contract for the 2023 season and there's the prospect that Becton might return to the field.

The Jets needed to choose between Jones and Skoronski at this pick, given their need for upgrades to the offensive line. However, Jones projects as a left tackle at the professional level while the Jets have some doubts that Skoronski will be able to remain at tackle in the NFL. Jones is by no means the finished product, but he he has the athletic gifts and the work ethic to maximise his talents and will likely see some limited action during the 2023 season with a view to unleashing him as a full-time left tackle in 2024, regardless of which quarterback is under centre for the Jets.

With pick 14 - New England :nflpatriots: selects:

Peter Skoronski. OT/G/C North Western.

1244448766.0.jpg

Patriots have needs in many positions: O Line, WR and CB.....plus some.

I think Skoronski sure's up an area of need, whilst simultaneously assisting in helping The Front Office ( AKA: Belichick House ) to assess one of the Teams key questions:

Regarding the QB: Do we have a Stud - a Serviceable Stayer - a Bust - or none of the above ........ also known as a Bridge Quarter back.

Mac Jones 2021 under McDaniels looked the goods
Mac Jones under Patricia sucked golf balls.

Enter Bill O'Brien ....who they desperately wanted last year ... but got stuck with the Rocket Scientist.

All resources need to be given to help Mac Jones ply his wares in his third season.
Let's be honest when you have a QB who is predominantly a pocket passer.... quality pass protection is essential.
Hence the additions in FA of Reilly Reiff and Calvin Anderson ... neither are the messiah, rather substantial upgrades and depth to what was available last year.

Of course more WR weapons help a QB, however they are semi useless if the QB isn't kept upright, therefore thats why I went O Line reinforcements.

Interesting side show here - Pats got in Mike Gesicki to help Hunter Henry ( Huge upgrade to Smith who was a good blocker but not a offensive threat ), Bo'B was the brains and master mind behind the Patriots revolutionary two TE pairing ,thats since been copied, with Gronk and the late Hernandez.

I suspect that BO'B will have a few tricks up his sleeve in how to assist Mac Jones...... this is where Peter Skoronski comes into play.... help protect Mac Jones, as the front office plot their next moves.

Recap: Sure a young WR of quality would have been nice to draft ....... but let's be blunt here.... Belichick's success at drafting WR in the first round is worse that my ability to pick the winning lotto number.

Skoronski, is in many ways is a typical Patriots like pick, quality individual, thats has positional versatility and at this juncture in the draft is value for money ... and is a position of need.

Happy with this pick, however I doubt he drop this far in the real deal.

With Pick 15, the Packers select:

Brian Branch, S, Alabama

USATSI_19465394-1024x740.jpg

I feel there's a bunch of directions the Packers could go with their first pick. I looked at a WR, but felt there wasn't great value at 15 with those remaining. TE was also a consideration, but I felt I could get a decent one further down the order. Skoronski would've been my pick had Monocle not taken him, as although we've made do with some decent late round picks, some premium talent injection is needed. Quality pass rush depth is a requirement, we've lost some depth on the DL too. With Amos pushed out, and Savage a questionable starter at times, Safety is also an area of concern.

Branch is everything I want in a Safety/Slot Defender. While the physical attributes are great, and the talent and skills are exceptional, the mental side completes the package. He's intense and passionate, has an amazing football IQ, and has a physical presence on-field when required. He sets the tone for the defense. He's versatile, strong vs. the run, excellent in zone coverage (could do with some improvement in man though), and has shown ability in blitzing. A very complete player with a very high floor.

Would be very happy to see this guy in #36.
