Quite a few of our games were like that. Mystery opposition player getting 2 votes in a game we win by 20+ points.

This correlates (causation IMO), with our inability to finish off sides. Our percentage was woeful for the number of wins, so they weren't clear 3-2-1 for Port. Worse is we'd often finish poorly. Whilst in theory a good 1st quarter by a player, followed with 3 meh should be the same as the first 3 meh and last good, as far as votes go, recency bias makes the latter more likely to pull votes. So our poor finishes also work against the votes.

If you look at the games where players got 3 votes from the scumps but no coaches there's some corkers.

Tim English 3 votes for 30 hitouts, 1 goal and 11 touches.
His opponent Ned Reeves had 43 hitouts and 15 touches lol

This has probably been mentioned, but the fact Wines didn’t get a Brownlow vote only 2 years after winning one is damning. Put the guy back in the middle!

Philips getting 3 Brownlow votes when he teamed up with Draper against Grundy.

Draper kicked 3 goals to Phillips 2.
Draper had more disposals.
Phillips got 21 hitouts to Draper 18. Grundy had 24.

Everyone singling out JHFs 3 votes against Geelong but this one is almost as weird.

Proof ample that umpires are dead set useless at deciding best players.
They get enough wrong during a game, why is it any surprise they screw that up.
A more rigged, boring and baffling Brownlow I've never seen.
Just frustrating as hell.

Have you ever looked at it the other way? He isn't getting anywhere near as much centre square time because he has been horrendous?

I don't know why more fuss isn't being made that field umpires kick the other umpires out of the room before doing Brownlow votes. Like getting opinions from different angles from others who spend more time watching the game than having to be involved in it, wouldn't be helpful?

Haha Jonas didn't even get a vote in Rd 6 from the coaches.

That's a * up by the author. Rozee is listed as getting 3 umps votes but no coaches votes in Rd 6 when in fact he got 10 votes.

Rd 6 was the round Neale got 0 from the coaches, 8 players got votes, and the umps gave him 3 votes.
