2023 Club Membership Updates

Note regarding comparisons. For an update today (11/04/23), we need to compete for ‘like for like’ with about 18/04/22. This is because we started the season a week earlier this year compared to last year.

Essendon currently 70,262. This competes to 21/04/22 of 71,920. So compared to last year they’re about -1,500 which given the low expectations and summer of turmoil makes sense. Look to be heading for somewhere approaching 85,000 I think at this stage. Although it was -2,400 4 weeks ago so who said winning games helps membership sales?!

It is not ideal that Geelong are ahead of us on the Membership ladder. I don't think that has ever happened where the Cats are in the top 4 and displaced a traditional "Big 4" club!

They won’t be by July. Essendon, going as poorly as they are, always sell more than most clubs March onwards. They will almost certainly remain ahead of the Cats.

WOW @ Hawthorn! Melbourne and Geelong ahead of them which is rare.

Melbourne are at 63,750. About 3K ahead of last year - Will get to around 68-69, may need another year before we get to 70k.

Has data ever been released on membership for each club by state? I'm trying to figure out which Victorian team would have the most fans in each of Perth, Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane.

Even if they did have this data it would be misleading as technically I can’t get a WA Collingwood membership as they are capped - I’d have to buy some other type of Collingwood membership that really gives me nothing. I’ve been sitting on a wait list for 7 years…
