South Australia to me seems to have a crowd problem. I might be off the mark but this is the only state that hasn’t strongly rebounded post covid. Not having a dig, just a perception. Is this the case?

when you consider Perth had over 44k for the Geelong v GWS semi final in 2021 - with basically all neutral supporters - that was a pretty good effort - compare that to what Port will dish up this weekend.

Us v Carlton will definitely sell out before the general public sale.

Reckon it will be a 60/40 split in terms of crowd and will get more than 37478.

A lot of Carlton fans in Queensland and a lot of Carlton fans outside of Queensland I reckon will cough up whatever the airfare is or drive up.

I agree, could be the fasted time a final at the Gabba ever sells out

ratings trouncing last night. AFL by half a million
As I expected AFL Ch 7 834K to Ch 9 NRL 299K and still only 50K in Melbourne even though CH 9 flogged the game to death all week.
Fox AFL 262K to NRL 263K

The AFL was also the #1 program on the capital cities index.- so the theory that the RL fanatics on LU keep pushing/believing that RL is miles ahead of the AFL in TV ratings is just plain wrong!

Yep - we beat them in attendances, tv ratings, players salaries, tv deals, participation…literally every category.

Previously this has been calculated off game time not broadcast length - this differs for both codes from FTA to Fox.

Last nights program lengths:
7AFL 180 minutes
FoxAFL 155 minutes
Thus calculation is [7ratings x broadcast length]+[Fox ratings x broadcast length]

9NRL 165 minutes
FoxNRL 115 minutes
Thus calculation is [9ratings x broadcast length]+[Fox ratings x broadcast length]

Surge in ticket sales for Port v GIANTS. Not sure if top deck behind the goals has been up for sale, but of the available bays there would be less than 500 left.

Weirdly, there now seem to be a lot more bays with plenty of tickets again.

Last night it wouldn't offer me 3 tickets for anywhere in Category 3, now you can get them in a dozen bays. I don't know what's going on with this one.

"Shocking" is harsh. Most clubs, even when flying, dont get 40k of their own fans showing up every week. Port are a mid sized club, and a 38k home crowd average - let's round it down to 36k taking out the showdown - is pretty decent.

People have short memories. Maybe 10 years ago, hitting 25,000 would’ve been regarded as exceptional.

On the crowds, my in-laws have AO tickets and attend most games. They’re pensioners and not flush with cash. To them, the prospect of paying $80 minimum for a ticket on top of what they pay for a yearly ticket doesn’t appeal. Also worth keeping in mind is that Adelaide is the poorest mainland city, and Port fans tend to be working class. These are important factors.

Oh so finals is the exception (for some reason). Gotcha.

Finals has always been the exception. Folks can forget sometimes that between overlaps and local broadcast rules, that come finals, all matches are shown independent of each other and nationally - as opposed to NRL matches which are all national broadcasts.

At least The Hill is now sold out.

We're on track for the 2nd largest finals series of all time.

Last night brought the total to 385k - even with a reasonably conservative estimate of the remaining games going 40k, 35k, 90k and 100k would take the year to 650k and just past 2010 (which had 2 GFs) and only behind 2018's total of 700k.

I still can't figure out reports that state the nrl has higher ratings. I know fox always seem to get the bigger audience but fta every week is substantially in AFL's favour....
