I don't mind our first 2 picks I think there'll be some gems in there and one for a slider or Mannagh. Guys like Moir, Philactides, Freija all fell away this year and should go late. Jiath and Lual both late draft potential too.
He’s quick with a touch of classWhy does Windsor sound like the preferred option?

Mannagh is of interest to the boss…wouldn’t be surprised if he’s selected with our 3rd pick if still on the boardI don't mind our first 2 picks I think there'll be some gems in there and one for a slider or Mannagh. I agree there is a strong chance we will picks local lads - but I would rather others than Murphy. I see him as an Oscar Adams clone, who is very thin and doesnt have the frame to build the strength to play well at the next level for years. With his lack of muscle he is very much a long term project player. If we are seriously looking at a key defender with pick #40 a kid with a huge upside is Zane Zakostelsky (Cla, 196/89, KD). The WA kid who was a late stand out with a big body and fantastic athletic traits.

Zane Zakostelsky Draft Profile
Claremont tall Zane Zakostelsky has untapped potential as an athletic and versatile prospect who has entered the draft conversation.central.rookieme.com
Simon Lethlean suggested throughout the year that he wanted to make Moorabbin the bayside recruiting zone, so I think within reason we will very keep a local flavour at the draft again. Particularly on the back of the Dragons successful years, you cant bottle players who have come through winning successful junior development programs. They just know how to win and what it takes to get there, it becomes ingrained in their in psyche. Plus adding more local lads to our already strong bayside past recruiting, Geelong have been doing it for years with endless sucess.
Accordingly the Sandringham kids to consider are - Charlie Edwards, Archie Roberts, Harvey Johnston, Will Lorenz, Will Brown, Luke Lloyd & Vigo Visenti. The Dandenong players we could also look at are - Harry DeMattia, Billy Wilson, Cooper Simpson & Sam Frangalas (all mids).
Just like the cluster of SA lads we have added to the list I think building a list with kids with local ties or clusters from other states has a lot of merit.
Zakostelsky looks a real prospect &, like Phillipou, will be one of the youngest players in the draft pool…he’s got a good frame on him already and apparently was extremely impressive at the draft combineI agree there is a strong chance we will picks local lads - but I would rather others than Murphy. Not cynical - accurate. NGA's and (northern) club academies have significantly different mandates, NGA's are for "growing participation in the under-represented segments of our community" whereas club academies are about growing the game and attracting "underage talent in non-traditional AFL markets such as New South Wales and Queensland".Thats a cynical outlook but possibly true - either way the AFL have said they will be reviewing the academies, the FA compensation and points systems. It will only take the big clubs to start making more noise, the same as they did with salary cap allowances to bring change.
That would be the hope but there'd be about a dozen clubs circling like sharks and we have precious little to offer.Looking at the draft followers draft ranking, seems a lot of WA boys near our first 2 picks . The likes of Collard, Hardeman , Kholstrup and Edwards so wonder if we are hoping west coast split the pick 1 so they grab all the WA boys possibly earlier than others would rate . Allowing a few sliders to our picks .
This kid with our 3rd pick.I did an example of possible 2024 AFL & VFL sides in the trade thread. The one thing that stood out was our lack of genuine small forwards if Butler or Higgins get injured. Henry, Byrnes & possibly Hotton could fill in, but I still think we need a genuine 'lightning bolt' quick small forward in
the Collard mould or as you suggested Mannagh with a late pick.
This kid with our 3rd pick.
I would rather get mannagh on a late pick than collard with our pick 21 as it's cheaper and msnnagh has runs on the board with a great vfl season and edpthe granny where as collard could be a bust or start type and could be a flight risk too
Mannagh has genuine leg speed…Higgins hasn’tCollard has more X factor and like a Milney or Aker type. Mannagh is more like a Snags sort of forward.
No chance to slip to us…more’s the pity!O'Sullivan looks great. Probably unlikely he slips to us but we saw what happened with Pou last year. Would love to grab another highly ranked slider, and an elite key position back is a huge area of need.
Mannagh looked like a Papley style forward but putting on less pressure in the forward halfMannagh has genuine leg speed…Higgins hasn’t

If we loved Mannagh and offer decent contract, as he was previously listed etc can we sign him like north did with pink? Does he have to be in the draft?Yeah, he's not like a slippery opportunist or pressure forward but he's a goal kicker and attacking player. Hard to make a good comparison.
Wasn't previously on a list so can't be picked up as a DFA. We either draft him or hope he trains with us during SSP. Would rather draft him to ensure we snag himIf we loved Mannagh and offer decent contract, as he was previously listed etc can we sign him like north did with pink? Does he have to be in the draft?
I'd be happy if we ended up with Edwards and Gothard with our first 2 picks. But this place might meltdown if we took a small forward in what is technically the first round.Sold.
But he won't last that long more's the pitty.
I'm not in favor of reaching for players but Edwards and this kid are so far my faves within our range and I've seen predictions for both between #17 and #35
Pick 30. Geelong: Charlie Edwards (SaD, 191/85, IM).
Pick 31. Carlton: Phoenix Gothard (MB, 178/72, SF)
17. St Kilda - Charlie Edwards
35. Phoenix Gothard
But Dave Misson would say that. It's nit as if he oing to say we didn't do as well as we should have.Agree in part, but we had plenty of time to lock Gresham's contract offer down before the trade period. I think it was the Dylan Shiel involvement that muddied the waters, that was our doing us much as Dodoro's. There was also plenty of opportunty to get involved with the Melbourne, Adelaide and Bulldogs deals much earlier. Anyway its all hindsight...
Dave Misson has since stated that we are happy with where we sit in the draft order, so perhaps the club had no intention of attempting to trade up the order? Who knows...
