Unless they are short of equipment, you'd think that StKilda could offer their fitness facilities for use by their affiliated club.
Subject to conditions i guess.

They don't though. We share it with the AFLW side, Sandy Dragons and other stake holders as is. The VFL is a really poorly run competition. The unaffiliated clubs will still attract the best talent because they tend to pay more, give players their preferred position and want to win every match. AFL affiliations are training squads for the seniors so non aligned players get sent to the reserves or less desirable positions to accomodate.

A great interview with the Sandringham Dragons Coach - Rob Harding talking about how they prepare kids for the year and draft. Stated that there is a real recruiting emphasis on speed and power plus players who can play multiple positions. He discusses the Sandi kids and states this years a taller draft with depth and next years is a very good midfield draft. Believes there will be players picked up in the 40's and 50's this year that will become very good players.

Wouldn't be surprised if we took A.Moir with our 2nd pick

Hope not, but with our third...

I like him, but I'm the same. He's had a pretty crap season, if he's still there with our third pick I'd definitely be keen to look though. I probably prefer the WA small forwards slightly more even as well. Moir is a little more of an in-between like Snags but with potential to be more of a mid/forward. Collard, Gothard and Sanchez all have a bit more of a proper small forward game.

Joel Freijah is an interesting one too. He's a tall wingman but wins his own ball in traffic and looks like Jeremey Cameron around goals at times. Moves similar when he runs actually. He's a real projection type. You kind of have to imagine what he will be like in a few years but if he gets it all together he could be a special player.

Wouldn’t mind us looking at this guy from Nth Adelaide with a late pick, good size & strong.
In a losing U18’s Champs Game still had 17 disposals, 4 marks & 7 tackles

Kane McAuliffe
Height: 187cm
Weight: 86kg
DOB: 01-03-2005
Strengths:
CONTESTED GAME,KICKING PENETRATION,LEADERSHIP,POWER,SIZE,TACKLING
Improvements:
HURT FACTOR OUTSIDE GAME
Draft range: Pick 40-60

Looking at some highlights looks a bit of a tough nut too, good size midfielder & for someone who needs improvement on his outside game, love the arrogance at the 1:06 min mark of this clip.

Looks like a good country footballer. There's a fair bit to like, I'd probably say a rookie spot for the sake on it being 1 year not 2.
It seems like a good year for a few later picks but we just haven't cleared the list enough.

We’ll only have 3 picks in the draft so may not commit to any speculative picks…I’d just like to see the best available picked at each selection, then look for needs with delisted free agents and rookies

The knock is precisely that - he doesn’t win his own ball. Those guys never translate.

I think that's the sensible approach but it's not that one dimensional.

I'm on the Charlie Edwards bus as he's a midfielder with a potentially high ceiling, but questionably best available at this stage. But we need more mids.
Then Gothard as a small forward for the same reasons.

However it matters not as the spreadsheet dictates all on draft night.

Thinking long term, we need mids and more mids.. that’s why I’m picking 2 mids in the first 2 rounds, then 1 key back, and then a ruck or forward depending on player availability..

1. Mid (Charlie Edwards / Demattia)
2. Mid (George Stevens / Demattia)
3. Ruck (Goad) / forward (Moir)
4. Ruck (Goad) / forward (Moir)

DFA / Rookie: Key back (Emerson Jeka), Small forward (Mannaugh)

Not bad.

He spent most of the last 2 years in the top 20 and others have probably gone past him but he's far from speculative. He'd be speculative like Hotton and Keeler were. He's just a little less developed than some of the other. He's guy with some special traits that hasn't put it all together this year but still had some amazing games.

He does when you watch him play. Seems to be able to play quite contested footy for an outside player.

Have you heard that at the club or is that your opinion Mike?

We have traded out Gresham, Billings & Coffield and delisted Adams, Connolly, Bytel and Cat B Peris. You would have to think McKenzie is only 30/70 to hold his position, plus Highmore would be very lucky to get another year. We traded in Henry & Dow and Cat B O'Connell so thats 4-6 senior list spots available.

Without knowing what the clubs plans are but I would like to see Highmore delisted and Patrick Voss added as a DFA, then take 4 draft picks on the draft night.

I have banged on about the need for quality midfielders for sometime, but I think what we do at this years draft will be determined by what we intend to do with next years draft picks. 2024 draft is reported as a very strong midfielders draft, so perhaps the club looks to fill a couple of list needs at this draft rather than going all out on mids. Consequently -

#13 Wilson (M), DeMattia (M), Charlie Edwards (M), Ollie Murphy (KD)
# 21 Gothard (SF), Collard (SF), Sanchez (SF), Zakostelsky (KD)
# 40 Mannagh (SF/M), Mitch Edwards (R), Cooper Simpson (M), Ashton Moir (M), Harvey Johnston (M)
#? Goad (R), Will Brown (KP/U) L.Charlesson (SF), Riley Wetherill (KP)

Note: All the midfielders chosen can also play forward and are goal kickers.

I think clubs can also now have 3 x Cat B players so there might be a chance Josh Docking (W) gets a spot also.

Mason Wood needs to be upgraded to the main list (hes been on the Rookie list for 3 years) so that immediately removes one main list spot.

So in order to take a delisted player AND 3 draft picks we would need to de list one Highmore/Mackenzie and considering MAckenzie is injured constantly now I would be saying it has to be him.

Thanks and that should open up another rookie A list spot, perhaps we keep that open for the MSD or even as I mentioned add Patrick Voss as a rookie.

I suspect McKenzie will be given every opportunity plus a bit more to see if he can overcome his injuries. Expect him to be delisted with an offer of a rookie spot. If he doesn't make it then we'll look at picking up someone via the SSP.

So I think SOS and Co will go to the draft with 12, 21 and 40 and they might hang around after Pick 40 is selected just to see how deep clubs are prepared to go before they all start passing.

So if our Pick 92 becomes a mid/late 50's pick perhaps they'd have a think about it.

SOS has stated the club will select 3 players in the draft, makes sense given pick 4 is 92.
DMac will be given every opportunity to show he’s capable of getting back on the park, with Highmore now a requirement due to Coffield leaving.
That’ll leave a list spot opening for a delisted FA

We have a lot of future picks as well. If someone we like is there I’d say we would in with our future 3rds

Although they would come forward a few places, l think it's Brisbane's p54 then the Dog's p56 that "could" be the first opportunities for us to trade back in, or an oppo club to trade out (having already used 3 picks).

I doubt it happens though. Picks next year are worth more to us ATM, we should be able to score a mid-late 2nd round pick then hopefully some academy players.

If there's a player we like at say p54, it would only cost us a future 4th. It's a buyers market by then.
