Totally agree!!
I agree too…..if we continue to play Max in the same role.

Having Ben at full forward frees Max up to be more effective up the ground.
I think from memory we ranked last in the comp for Inside 50 conversion this year. Feel like we would really benefit from a rethink of our forward structure and utilising Max’s entire skill set further up the ground would go a long way to improving that stat imo

Apologies for derailing the thread 😬

I think the reverse, Ben is more the lead up player, he seems to have more of a tank and more suited to a CHF role, but its just semantics.
Bing comes out of contract at the end of next year and wont be a free agent for another 3 years, so if we did bring him in it would have to be in a trade. Giving away 2 x 1st round picks for another key forward, when we desparately need elite midfielders would be a huge gamble.

Saw some highlights of Patrick Voss, Essendon DFA.
Not sure why he was cut or didn't get a game.
Turns 21y.o in June next year, 194cm-96kg.
Ferocious tackler, bordering on reportable? & good set shot on goal & has played back.
Won Essendon VFL B&F.
Essendon fan replied to a thread that he is a one trick pony, I count 3 trick pony on my thread?

Tell him, we'll play him forward but as soon as he gets to training he's at C.H.B & pinch hitting in the ruck. He's more mobile than Max, apparently?

Wouldn’t mind us looking at this guy from Nth Adelaide with a late pick, good size & strong.
In a losing U18’s Champs Game still had 17 disposals, 4 marks & 7 tackles

Kane McAuliffe
Height: 187cm
Weight: 86kg
DOB: 01-03-2005
Strengths:
CONTESTED GAME,KICKING PENETRATION,LEADERSHIP,POWER,SIZE,TACKLING
Improvements:
HURT FACTOR OUTSIDE GAME
Draft range: Pick 40-60

Looking at some highlights looks a bit of a tough nut too, good size midfielder & for someone who needs improvement on his outside game, love the arrogance at the 1:06 min mark of this clip.

I think he was rated high last year, dropped off this year

We aren't in a position to knock back talent. If Bing wants to come, you make it happen, ideally as an FA. A lot of water to go under the bridge yet.

Can I also say, not sure what the fascination is with trialing Caminiti as a defender. Has only just landed, let him own the forwardline. Don't push Dougals issues (ie. Teams issues with Dougal) on to him and take him away from his preferred position.

So 3 years to build the midfield and become a contender. Sounds about right.

They delay it until after the Year 12 exam period so the draft hopefuls don't implode.

Another reason the draft year should be 19!
So make it 19's years of age so we can have the draft a few weeks earlier?

I think 18 is the perfect age to be honest. It wouldn't be right for kids like Daicos Ashcroft etc to have to wait an extra year when they are ready to make an impact at AFL level.

Are they gonna actually do the draft? Like why wait?

I'm more of the opinion that everything should be about building a sustainable top 4 list. If they think that we have a top 4 list and just need a second KPF then it makes sense but spending $2 million of your salary cap on 2 KPFs could end up doing the opposite. They'll both be at an age where their big contract will come up next time. Collingwood and Essendon will throw huge overs at Ben King. Even if his dream is to play along side his brother at the club he followed as a kid, he's playing for half of what he was offered elsewhere.

I agree. I hear this talk all the time, when he has barely started to learn his forward craft. I really hope this is not the case unless it is a Sharman development situation where he was put back for a year before he really started to come on as a forward by the end of this season.
Hammer is a forward IMO

I get what you are saying but it doesnt hurt to develop some flexibility in young players. I dont think he would necessarily replace anyone in defence, its just an option and if he was to become a good defender I think it would more likely be Battles spot in jeopardy. In a lot of games he was basically playing a defensive role forward in any event.

Its about getting your best players playing and finding their best position, that may well at CHF. He is going to have some competition next year eg Membrey, Hayes, Sharman even Keeler if he fires. How much competition does Battle have for his spot? Highmore and he should have been delisted IMO.

Nar l doubt it. The difference might me $1M over 4-5 years or 500k after tax.

$100k cash per year after he's already rich from his time at GC, and for that he will never play at Stkilda or with his brother in a possible 2nd premiership.

I still think he's Stkilda bound and it's only about timing. Or he stays at GC.

Completely agree. Quite frankly, I don't want the player who is going to request $1M plus, because they have zero notion of what effect the salary cap and TPP has on the success of the club. That's why FA is the way to go. Don't need to pay up in terms of draft capital, and limit negotiations to the two clubs.

Agreed but if he wants to come to us we would be negligent in not getting it done. Depending on where Bing sees himself playing we could turn Caminiti and/or Hayes into key defenders. A forward line of the two Kings, Max at FF, Ben at CHF and Keeler FP (if he makes it) would give us some real fire power. In his most recent contract with GCS he received $750k per year so thats a lot of cap in two key forwards, but if we can build around them and win a flag them we would all be wrapt. Say Max is on the same thats $1.5M per year of $13,540,000 which is 11% of the TPP.

Richmond had Lynch & Reiwoldt and Geelong had Hawkins and Cameron so its not like two key forwards dont help win flags.

Personally I think clubs like Collingwood etc will throw big $$$ at him, making it hard to knock back. We might not have that concern, but it would be a nice problem to have!
we need to see evidence Caminiti can hit a target before you deploy him down back. Haven’t seen him do it yet.

I dont see any issues with his kicking apart from rushing at times, but the kid is 19-20yo if he does play anytime in defence it will be in the VFL to learn the ropes. In any event his kicking couldnt be any worse than Howards.

I'd rather use any big contract going on a elite midfielder , we currently have Camaniti and Keller who have unlimited upside and having Hayes , King and a fit Membery another key forward is not really our problem.

There is going to be a lot of movement next year with guys like Oliver , Smith , Thomas , Perkins all wanting out the rumors say but apart from that the amount of free agents that will need big money to keep them on the payroll - just guys like English , Florent , Perryman.
And if we are really after a midfielder a uncontracted guy like McLuggage.

Howard's kicking isn't an issue, it's his decision making can bring him undone and even that's been over blown on here. He's always rated right up the top of the tall back kicking efficiency.

Arent the two related ir if you kick the ball and it doesnt go anywhere near its intended target thats kicking no matter how you spin it.
