He's unfortunately in the category of player where fans only remember the 1-2 mistakes he makes in a game rather than the 20 good things he does.
That's a little bit on him though. His mistakes are pretty epic!

Hopefully fewer and further between next year, he's a great asset when switched on and playing well. And definitely needs to either mark more or spoil it the hell out of the area or to advantage more.

Those big guys will always have their moments. Even Harris Andrews has them now and then.

I see it's a common theme on this forum to repeat one self ad infinitum on certain topics.

What you say includes the coaches too as he was declared fully fit for the final and OVERLOOKED.

Dayyyyum!
Yes, he wasn't brought directly back in for a final after 6 weeks out with a broken wrist where the back-up doing a solid job.

But if the coaches believed that he couldn't dispose the ball, couldn't defend one-on-one, struggled mark the ball and was just the general liability as has often been mentioned, why was he the first choice and selected every game until injury struck? That would suggest the coaches rate him in some capacity.

They probably didn't rate Cordy very highly (passable performances) seeing as he spent a long period in the seconds (just a hunch)

Then Cordy lo and behold started playing well in defence (forced change) and no surprises he stayed in (for a very obvious reason)

I still have Ross vividly in my memory when talking about who was going to play in the final between Cordy and Howard. He finished by saying he might handball that decision off to Enright. I was pretty confident then and there who was playing.

He wasn’t our 1st choice he was our only choice most of the year unfortunately, he got subbed out in Richmond game in the wet because of his horrible decision making and we didn’t rate him enough to bring in for a do or die final.

Maybe not as bad as made out on here but definitely nowhere as good as some are making him out to be , same posters kept telling us how good Billing’s was for years

Howard was gone if any club made a half decent offer but no club wanted to give anything for him

As Ross often says, possession is 9 tenths of the law. Cordy had the spot and was decent until the final.

Doesn't mean Howard is a poor player like has often been insinuated.

Howard should go back to what he did best when we got him, just go the punch, think his biggest problem is trying to do too much, RTB wants us to play an exciting style, so Howard thinks he has the ability of selling candy etc. etc. being a 27yo he still has 8 years before he can play masters/old boys footy, where he might just pull it off.
Give the bloke a break, he’s in training.🥴

Ross Lyon said after the final that he should have selected him.
Takes a big person to admit they're wrong.

He said with Tim pulling out the morning of the game he thought of moving Cordy forward and Howard in . And in hindsight he got it wrong

Again he is not a list need - I dont think he would be any better than Membrey, Sharman, Owens or Hayes.

Im not big on chasing delisted players from other clubs but Patrick VOSS 20yo 194-195cm key position player is someone I would seriously look at! Essendon continually tried him as a CHF but for me is the classic CHB, with a big frame and nasty streak. He won their B&F this year he would be the perfect backup key defender for us! I desparately wanted him in his draft year - get him training with the club SOS, delist Highmore if we have to and offer him a spot.
Well the first part just happened!

He's being diplomatic. Unlike us, he doesn't throw any player under a bus.

Surely you heard the repeated gossip that Howard was on the trade table which directly conflicts with what you just said.

Shock, horror, no takers.

Howards in our best 22 , Cordy's not.
Howard played 18 games this last season and missed the rest due to injury.
Didn't play the final due to no match time for 6 weeks.
I'm no Howard fan but he is by far our best key tall back and hopefully he will produce his best next year and there is a reason he was selected as Ports captain and put into our leadership group in 2021 and co-vice captain in 2022.

Yet Port let him go and RTB moved him out of the leadership group for the 2023 season

Work out well. Cordy was a statue and completely out of his depth v GWS.

And Howard wouldn’t have made a difference
RTB mentioned how the midfield was slaughtered making it impossible for the defenders

Would have. One on one he is not bad and would have punched the ball. Cordy was continually out positioned by the GWS forwards and looked completely out of his depth.
The result would not have changed GWS would have won, but Cordy was made a fool of, where Howard for all his faults at least can compete one on one.
I wish we had someone else, Howard makes silly mistakes and I am no fan, but Cordy showed how exposed for height we are down back without a key defender.

We had the best defence in the league all year, and Howard was a major component of that defensive structure.
We have over 90 points scored against us twice in the season, the second time in the final with Cordy down back.

It's going to be interesting who starting in the midfield next season - will Owens be given a good crack.
We know Steele and Crouch if fit will be there but it is that 3rd mid , no doubt Dow , Ross , Clark , Sinclair and Windhager will be rotated through there but who will be given 3rd mid spot who gets the most TOG.

Maybe watch the Richmond game again and see what a fool Howard is

Howard such a major component yet RTB was happy to leave him out for a do or die final and also happy to have him shopped around

Yeah really hoping Owens gets a fair bit of time midfield
