Do you know how many A rookies & Cat.B we can have all together?

We can have 3 Cat B rookies now apparently. ( We have 2 now i think ).

But it always used to be 2 Cat B rookies.

I can see a bit in google but not beyond the paywall. It always used to be 42 players including normal rookies and main listed players.

Every club except for North Melbourne and Gold Coast can sign a maximum of 44 footballers for next season, comprising between 36 and 38 on the primary list, four to six category A rookies – depending on the size of their primary list – and up to two category B rookie

They really like making complicated rules , then dicking around with them.

We currently have McLennan & O'Connor as Cat B's
Caminiti, Heath & Sharman as Cat A's
33 on the main list = 38

So, we can have 1 more Cat A or Cat B
& add 5 to the main list.
So we could pick up to, 3 to 4 in the draft.
And maybe one or two in the PSD or MSD

Guys like Campbell & Stewart are pure back ups.

They're not recruited to become consistent AFL players... they're brought in to fill a role if needed.

You can argue that it's taking a spot of a kid who might make it but clubs seem to disagree... they want the mature bodies who can cover injuries of senior players if needed.

All clubs do it from time to time.

I understand what you are suggesting but my suggestion is to try a player who is younger and has room for improvement. Stewart has an injury prone history and he is hardly a proven key defender backup. Anyway your or my opinion are not going to alter what SOS does.

I believe we can take 3 x Cat B rookies, and I believe they are competely separate to the main and rookie A lists numbers.
That would make 47 on the list, don't think so.

We can have 36 to 38 on the main list, usually 38, we currently have 33.

3 to 5 Cat A's & 3 Cat B's totaling 44 max. on the list.

I think ?

So currently we have 3 Cat A's & 2 Cat B's

More than likely we add

1 x Cat. A

or 1 more Cat. B - maybe Josh Docking? (NGA)

The pure back up / old player idea is fine, if we didn't have list sizes that meant we could run out of players.
I'd actually like the AFL to have a non-rookie , outside the cap list especially for older players.
They used to have the veteran list outside the cap for players. It used to mean that loyal players who wanted to keep playing could do so without being shoved out the door.

But arent Cat B completely separate from the list numbers?

On the North Melbourne deal if we were to do it there still should be plenty of players available we are interested in. Stavro did suggest a few days ago we were looking to get another pick between our first two perhaps this is it.

The 3 Cat B's seems to be a new ruling.
I don't know if that allows a total of 45, or whether you can only do it if you have a spot in the 42. ( one less Cat A or one less regualr player ).

Just read on the AFL site that Liam Stocker has been upgraded to the senior list, along with Wood.

So who does leave on our Cat A rookie list - Caminiti, Heath, Sharman, Hayes ? Does that make 32 on the senior list? If thats correct and we can have a total of 44 players senior + rookie Cat A, we have a max of 8 positions to fill. Lets say we select 2 x SSP players eg McKenzie & Stewart, thats still 6 spots to fill via drafts. Which would suggest we take 4 at the National draft and 1-2 Rookies.

Plus Cat B McLennan & O'Connell plus a possiblilty of Josh Docking or Will Nish.
